Flyers are probably have the worst roster in the league now, but Michkov still somehow scores points. Keeps being PPG+ since the break.
And hit a post, robbed twice, and setup failed teammate finishes multiple times today. Was outstanding again.

I think Torts will have a positive impact longterm on Michkov and the other young guys. Like the strict teachers from grade school who you hate in the moment and appreciate as you age for their tough love. Its really fascinating that Briere was open minded enough to draft a offensive first talent like Michkov but on the other hand hangs on a dinosaur like Torts. And its even more fascinating that some people here think Torts can help Michkov to make him a better player.
You can’t watch the Flyers and get away thinking this Coach can tell his players more about Hockey than at least 31 other different headcoches. Especially how bad the PP is looking after Torts had 3 seasons to fix it.
And it really gets absurd when Torts is speaking about context why he benched Michkov again… Context like your team is out of the POs, playing only for a high draft pick and you are benching the one and only reason people are still watching your shitshow.

That said, he needs to be replaced. Hopefully in the next 12 months
The only people I can remember talking like that are the same Russian fans thinking Demidov is a lock for 90+.At the beginning of the season I said on the older Michkov thread that a 50-60 points first season would be a very, very good first season and that Flyers fans should be expecting that for an elite young player paying his first NHL season.
I got banned from the thread for saying that after getting multiple response that I was trolling and that he was a lock for 65+ and some even suggested 90+ points out of the gate.
Now here we are 70 games in and Michkov is pacing for ~56 points. People still don’t understand howe hard it is - especially for young players - to put up that kind of season as a teenager. Few players can.
It's interesting, that when linemate fails to convert good scoring chance once in while, it's remembered for months and some people constantly repeat about that in this thread. But when Michkov gets random assist for shot that was like 0.01 xG, it's considered totally fair
I would say that it all evens out on the long distance. If you look at Tippett's numbers - he has 19 goals, but his xGF is only 13.4. Must be above average finisher actually, and he played with Michkov a lot. It's not like he plays with total scrubs
All the while getting held back at times by Torts who would bench him if he made a mistake. At the beginning of the season I said on the older Michkov thread that a 50-60 points first season would be a very, very good first season and that Flyers fans should be expecting that for an elite young player paying his first NHL season.

He's still playing 15-20 minutes a night, which is a lot for a rookie. Before the four-nation break, you could see that he was getting tired and that he was still adjusting to the NHL schedule and his offensive production took a dip. He's also not exactly a net positive on the defensive side of the game and he cheats a lot. I think you're better off getting those bad habits out of the way at 20 rather than letting him run free and try to make these changes when he's 25+.All the while getting held back at times by Torts who would bench him if he made a mistake.
Isn’t Michkov a big part of the Flyers PP1? Shouldn’t he also get a bit of the blame for their PP problems or is he exempt of it?He is cheating way less than people who don't watch him play pretend he would do. And he is playing 16.20 min in average. Celebrini 19.50 and Hutson 22.30. ES only 13.31. Nevertheless leads all rookies in EVP. Something he was mocked for by some no name user at the start of the season:
Michkov got his first career even strength point today! First of many! Congrats Matvei
And its crazy how "worried" some people are about Michkovs 2way game and bad habbits (and how positive Torts can be in that regard) but way less about the fact that the Flyers are 32 straight PPs without a goal (NHL record is 36 if Im not mistaken) and could very well end up having the third consecutive year the weakest PP in the league (would be NHL record).
Michkov would lead all Rookies comfortable in points if the Flyers PP would only be league average… Crazy to think about that he was one draft spot away of ending up on the Caps PP and possibly assisting Ovechkin to his record breaking goal…
It’s a stupid idea to begin with. You don’t teach a thoroughbred race horse how to plow fields. And its crazy how "worried" some people are about Michkovs 2way game and bad habbits (and how positive Torts can be in that regard)
Funny you say that because he only won a cup after Trots came in and taught him how to be defensively responsible. It’s a stupid idea to begin with. You don’t teach a thoroughbred race horse how to plow fields.
Imagine if OV had it drilled in he had to be a responsible, defensive capable player from the day he came to the NHL. Would we be watching him about to break the goals record?
These guys are here to score. Let them do what they do and leave the defense to the other guys. Does that mean the other team is going to score when he’s on the ice? Sure, but he’s going to score a lot more for you.
You’re sure that that Cup happened solely to OV’s defensive development and not Trotz’s system as a whole?Funny you say that because he only won a cup after Trots came in and taught him how to be defensively responsible.
He probably wouldn’t have broke the record but he’d probably have another cup or two if he had Trotz as a coach when he entered the league
Does these two have to be mutually exclusive? I think it would be fair to say that because Ovy bought into the system everyone else did as well. It ended up being short lived but it did bring them a cup. You’re sure that that Cup happened solely to OV’s defensive development and not Trotz’s system as a whole?
