If he finished top 100 in goals and assists I would consider that a really good accomplishment.

They were 5 vs 4 opponents, Michkov was preparing for offense, and the Isles defensman saw it and didn't support the attack. It wasn't Michkov's fault that 4 Flyers couldn't protect their goal vs the same number of NYI players. It's probably what Michkov tried to tell Torts, but of course Torts knows everything better...

It's not about fault, it's about playing within the system. Michkov flying the zone is the wrong play there. He needs to stop and keep himself in the play.

So the coach should yell at the 4 other guys to keep working hard, follow the system, sacrifice their bodies to cover for Michkov who should be allowed and encouraged to fly solo, take himself out of the play and do whatever he likes?

That's usually what top players do. I mean Michkov scored tons of goals this way in different leagues, and Flyers scored 1, 1, 4, 0, 0 goals in their 5 last games. If the system doesn't work it should be changed.

Ok, so Michkov tried to play like a top player, flying out of the zone before his team had puck possession. And in that way he scored 3 goals in last 26 games, while having by far the worst plus-minus amongst Flyers forwards in that span. If that doesn't work well for him maybe he should change something in his approach?

It's the way he plays, always did. If the Flyers think he plays hockey wrong they should trade him. I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of buyers.
It's a bizzare vicious cycle.

Michkov has a great potential and skill, the Flyers should adapt to his game to an extent.
But the team has a system that players should follow, and Michkov isn't a 100-point scorer yet for him to be bigger than the team, particularly with the current cold stretch.
But he's still 2nd in team scoring with limited ice time, and the plays he makes shows he has a great potential and skill...

This.

Michkov isnt yet good enough to warrant his coaches overlooking flaws. But on the other hand Tortorella is not playing him to his strengths, nor putting him in an optimal position to develop.

I don't think blowing the zone in this sort of situation is where Michkov will pick up enough points to justify the cost. I've seen him do it many many times, and score some points that way, but it's not worth it. He has to wait until his team has the puck. He'll still score a ton of points in other ways so I don't get why he should be stubborn about it.

Nah. It immediately puts Couturier in a position where he has to cover two guys, and Seeler sees that and so he slides over and that opens up yet another free attacker in the slot. The far side Islanders D man has a Flyers winger assigned to him, so it's really a 4 v 3 in the zone after Michkov leaves the area.
