RW Matvei Michkov (2023, 7th, PHI) Part 6

That was me. But in the end i was sold on Wolf as he made much more if an impact than Michkov. The totality if Wolf’s season made him a better candidate than Wolf. And clearly the NHL agrees. They got it right!

That’s not to say Michkov won’t be a good or great player. He should be.

Now quit your crying, its getting old and sad!

In the end you were sold on Wolf? He played his worst hockey of the season after you posted Michkov was one of your finalists. Why not just admit you chose to be a hypocrite for the sake of arguing.

It is certainly trending that way considering Michkov’s rookie year at 20 was equal to Kucherov’s second year at 21. The only disadvantage Michkov has right now is supporting cast. Kucherov walked into prime Stamkos/Hedman while Michkov is pretty much a one-man show until the Flyers surround him with better talent.
Kucherov walked first into the Q, had to play in the A and after that in the Bolts middle 6 with limited TOI. The first full year with Tampa he played with Johnson and Palat and had ~5 minutes less TOI per game than Stamkos but only 7 points less at the end of the RS. In the PO he already outscored him badly.

If Michkov is any close to Kucherov the Tortorellas and Tocchets of this world should and will not matter…

He will never be close to Quinn Hughes, that's not going to happen.
Also Matvei will never be prime Kuch, come on now.
Hutson already had a better rookie season than Quinn. Get outta here with your baseless takes. Absolutely no reason why he couldn't be as good as him in his prime.

Same thing with Michkov and Kuch.

Kucherov had just 2 more points in 2 more games than Michkov in his first full NHL season. Of course scoring was all time low in that season, but Palat - Johnson - Kucherov line was one of the best in the league, they were pretty young and had great chemistry. Oh, and the last, but not the least Kucherov was 1.5 years older.

Because minds can be changed as the season progresses. I has celebrini #1 in the first half. Then Hutson. Had Michkov top 3 by Feb. then in the end, wolf top 3.

if you aren’t adjusting your opinion as the season progresses, you are a biased homer. Clearly you fall into a certain category.

Its pretty funny that you are so butthurt over a meaningless 3rd place position. Like a soccer mom bitter that her boy did not get a participation award.

All that matters is who won the Calder. Who finished runner up or below is pointless.

Again, you’re making no sense. So by February you were convinced Michkov was a Calder finalist over Wolf; Michkov proceeds to have a lights-out close to his season (29 points in 29 games after 2/1) while Wolf plays his worst in that same span. You post on March 31 that Michkov is your Calder finalist, yet somehow your decision changes to Wolf with only days left in the regular season????

Care to explain that one? Or you want to save that one for later and tell me how a goalie with a losing record over the final 2.5 months of the season was “fantastic” and “carried” the Flames?

I looked at the entirety of Wolf’s campaign and reassessed and realized he was the better and more impactful performer. I listened to Flames fans and Flyer fans. And then my final assessment was he should be 4th.

And low and behold, i was right! The NHL agrees with me. As do most folks on here.

That said, great accomplishment for Michkov to finish 4th place. So many great players. He deserves a participation award but unfortunately the NHL doesn’t hand those out! :(
