Yep, crap team with a crap coach that wants to win now. Bad combination for Michkov. But Rotenberg is a bad alternative.
And you reached this conclusion one month into the season.

A Stanley Cup winner is a "crap coach" and a team that just beat a team that won back-to-back Stanley Cups is a "crappy team".

I hardly think John Tortorella is going to ruin Matvei Michkov.
Like he ruined Vincent Lecavalier or Martin St. Louis.

More games off would be really good for Michkov.

He's not at the point where he can play with sustained energy for 82 games. I suspect not even 70 games.

If you want to see the best that Michkov can offer then you should hope he's not played to exhaustion.

Pretty logical.

That’s a completely dumb decision, move him down the lineup if you want to punish him, he was still their best PP guy

Sitting a rookie and having him watch isn't necessarily punishment. The first season in the NHL is a lot for anyone; let alone a 19-year-old.

Its not the only thing that matters. The 1 5-on-5 point matters. The fact that he showed he can function in the NHL outside of 5 on 5 play matters. The defensive issues matter. The times he looked lost out there matter.

The thing that matters the most though is his age.

Outside of his special team stats (which slowed down considerably), he hasn't been doing well. That's quite okay too, dude is 19.

Philly needs to build a team still, Michkov's struggles might be a positive for them. It shows that they have time to be patient.
The 1 5 on 5 point is a convenient narrative that easily falls apart when you ask how many even strength points he has. When you have to go the lengths to split hairs between even strength and 5 on 5, you have a narrative with holes in it.

Yes, a 19 year old small winger is better when he has more space? This is not a big deal, and is pretty obvious. I think anyone should've expected it. His 5 on 5 numbers are also a product of his team, and actually they are pretty decent compared to the rest of his team, last I checked. If he was playing for Florida or Dallas, I think his 5 on 5 point totals would be very respectable. Hard when you are playing for quite literally like the worst team in the league.

And his special teams stats haven't slowed down. He had a point the game prior to getting scratched on the PP. He had a few games where he didn't pick up a point. A few of them he played well. There were games where he played poorly and got a point. This is called a small sample. 10 points in 13 games is the player he is. That's over a larger sample. Making a lot over a few games trend here or there for any player is not recommended.

For what it is worth, he only has one 5v5 point. The other two are 4v4 and 6v5. (I don't know what 6v5 technically counts as.)

If you watched all those games you would see that he created so many chances for his teammates on 5vs5 so that teammates should be blamed not Michkov...

Surprised he’s scratched for a second consecutive game. You’d think you’d see how he responds to sitting one game before doing multiple in a row

Okay, I'm now "Sack Torts" territory. You can't scratch him a second game in a row. Your record don't matter. Your middling NHL players don't matter.

If this is about teaching Michkov, he got his punishment for the one game. He should be back in the role after that one game punishment.

Apparently it's not, and Torts has lost me.

torts is in a win now mode and they have better chances to win without michkov than with him. benching won't do anything for michkov, though. the ahl awaits. and the ahl over khl is simply idiotic. michkov has no one to blame but himself.

No, they don't. He's their leading scorer and best player.

You could say this literally for about a 100 players though which makes it a lazy comment IMO.

He simply has to get better 5 on 5 and at ES and isn't the impact superstar right now that he might become although I don't know if that an absolute certainty either his skating isn't exactly elite and he has things to work on obviously.

No, they don't. He's their leading scorer and best player.
Do you really think that he is a better player than Konecny?

And if you are taking out PP production he isn't even really a top 5 player at ES for the Flyers right?

Wild to me that people can't see how it might benefit Michkov to play fewer games. Do you want to see magic mode fully rested Michkov or not? Why are you so invested in his games played number?

Konecny is their leading scorer and their best player right now. (Not that it justifies sitting the kid twice in a row.)
I was too lazy to look it up. My bad. But he’s probably like second or something. Quite clearly one of the best players and scorers on the team.

Debatable. Whatever, it doesn’t matter whether he or Konecny is better.

His even strength analytics actually are good. Someone posted them above. Puck not going in net. All there is to it.

Good to see we can all agree Torts did his best worth back when the two line pass was a thing

they seem to be drastically better without him. bad news for michkov
As previously stated , he’s their second best guy in xGF/60 and was third best in scoring. Unless, his teammates are sabotaging him, there is no way he’s the reason they played worse
