Can't believe this guy has such little hype. He has 26 goals in 29 games.

Among regular fans, yes. Among scouts, he's regarded as a potential top 10 pick by many and a potential top 5 pick by more than a few.

To be fair, he plays in Val D'Or, where even scouts tend to avoid on principle of convenience unless it's a true topflight player on the team.

A big goal scorer of 6'4 225lbs, you know that kind of player GMs aren't able to trade to get one and pray every day to be able to draft one someday. That's about it.

Gauthier is an amazing player and already got the size, plus he is dedicated to the game, which is not always the case with those big players. He's a hard working guy and a real gym rat, I think he's gonna be a Top10 goal scorer in the NHL one day.

This guy is Top-5 material!

I remember looking at early draft rankings and seeing Gauthier being a late 1st on lists. Then looking at his stat line from his draft -1 year and thinking "Well this guy is going to rise on the lists".

At least so far this draft is different from the last 2 years as other than Matthews going #1 there are quite a few players who could go anywhere from 2-12. There isn't much of a difference as of now between Laine, Puljujarvi, Chychrun, Tkachuk, Dubois, Gauthier, Mcleod and Nylander with Fabbro, Sergachyov and Juolevi not far behind if at all. If someone has a big WJC that could separate them from the pack.

I feel like Gauthier is one of those guys who will get picked anywhere from 6th to 10th overall, and he will make an immediate impact and make guys wonder why he wasn't top 5. He's not only huge, he has great scoring instincts, uses his size very well, and is relentless on the puck.

I can see this guy being an impact player day 1 after being drafted if he gets an NHL shot.

How do Gauthier (and Dubois) project as prospects compared to say Timo Meier? I know Meier's numbers are not overwhelming this season on a weaker Halifax team but in his draft year last season he put up 44 goals and 90 points in 61 games which is probably comparable to where Gauthier and Dubois end up...and their consensus draft position is similar to where Meier got chosen last year (albeit some viewed it as a less than stellar pick).

The reason I ask is because this draft seems really, really salty in the top 15-20...moreso than last year. But I'm no expert so I can't tell if that's simply because we are always looking for the "next" thing or because this draft really does have more high-level talent in the first round.

What do you all think?

I like both more than Meier.

Hat trick today. 29 goals in 30 games. Reminds me a lot of Mantha in his draft year.

Hat trick and up to 29 goals in 30 games.

Unofficial 50 in 50 watch? (will miss games for WJC camp and potentially the tournament)

Hatty today and now 29G in 30 games. 1st was on the PP where he scored off a rebound. 2nd goal he used his speed+power to get by the defenseman and sniped short side. 3rd goal was similar to the 1st where he just parked his body out front and scored the rebound. He's so big and strong most d-men have no chance at moving him.

Have you seen him play to say this? Or you're basing this only on his goal production? Because Gauthier has waaaaaaay more heart than Mantha. He is working a lot harder games after games.

Same team, similar height, and that's about it.

Gauthier is much more of a power forward, Mantha is a finesse player with a ton of underutilized size.

To be frank, I just don't see this relentless, full of heart, and hard working Gauthier you guys are talking about. Maybe I am missing something or something has changed immensely in the past week or so since I last watched him. I find him inconsistent in his effort shift to shift, can be hard on the puck or dominate when he wants to or he blends into the background. Merely average defensively and isn't that hardworking in that zone.

I prefer Dubois, based on what I've seen so far this season. IMO, i think he is smarter in all zones, very versatile player who unselfishly set up plays with superior vision and can score with great hands or a hard shot. He makes players around him better, can play a physical game like Gauthier and is just as skilled, while adding more dimensions on the ice.
