Are you saying that as a generalization on his season to this point, or are you saying he still looks lost in the offensive zone while putting up 12 points in his last 5 games?
On the whole. Most of those points still came off the rush. He got a few points on the PP. He's great off the rush. He can really flip the rink. You just wonder if it will translate to the next level where space in the neutral zone is harder to come by.

I think his passing game is better than most peoples thought it was.

I personally don't see his vision as a weakness to his game, it's just not nearly as strong an aspect of his game as scoring is.

Wowza. Jake has the 2nd highest points per 60 for players with more than 5 points. He's only behind Nejezchleb which means he's higher than Reinhart, Draisaitl, Bjorkstrand, Petan etc.

I'd be pretty confident he will remain a dangerous player off the rush. The concern for me would be the in-zone game being up to snuff for the top 6.

4 goals 8 assists in his last 5 games.

fyi, he has no power play time.

He must be not performing on the power play if that's true.

I wouldn't take his lack of pp time as complimentary to his recent production. It's not like he's 17 where the veterans are usually getting all the pp time.

Kids a beast

He's a beauty of a prospect. No complaints. LIked it from day 1, their are question marks about his game, but it's a weak draft, even the guys drafted ahead of him, might not even turn out. As long as he can skate, hits, and put pucks in net, thats all I care. I am happy if he's just a 45 point player, but a physical presence.

Sort by the last column: eP/60 (even strength points per 60 minutes)

If you choose to filter by, say, 5 minimum games played, it'll clean the results up a lot for easier browsing.

Not surprised, apparently last season, he only averaged 17 minutes of ice time per game, which is equivalent to a second line player, with limited power play action.

It's hard to understand how a fan of the Canucks could be upset with this pick outside the top 5... honestly...

Some people (Myself included) felt that the Canucks should have went for a player with what seems like higher ceilings (Nylander, Ehlers), but I'm growing to like Virtanen.

He's our pick now, so I'll support him regardless of what I felt previous to us drafting him.

most Canucks fans preferred ehler, Nylander and or Ritchie at the time. even though in the end I knew they were going to draft Virtannen no matter what stats Ehlers will finish the season with. Trevor Linden hinted they really liked Virtannen and Dal Cole 6 weeks before the draft.

every person knew they were going to take one of them on the clock

it's just that only 10-20% of people actually wanted him prior to us picking him

I'm not understanding why people especially Canuck fans think drafting Jake was a bad decision.

You need these types of players in top six roles and he projects to be just that.

In the end he could be relegated to third line duty but no one expects his future to remain that way.

Then again who's to stay he isn't first line material.

Would Vancouver trade him for this or next years sixth overall?

Would I trade Virtanen for Strome/Marner? Absolutely.

Would I trade him for Crouse/Zacha/Rantanen? Ehh...

He gets plenty of PP time. He's on the first unit. They don't run the PP through him though. You would think with his shot they would set him up for one timers but Adam Tambellini is much better at getting pucks on net so they usually defer to him.

Lol fly guy refuses to say anything positive about him. Absolutely refusing. Points out he negatives, which I am totally fine with, but he has to be doing something right at this point to have his greatest offensive outburst, any hitmen fans care to say something ?

And yes I would totally consider trading him for the 6th pick.

To be fair, there really wasn't much consensus after the top 4 although most of the scouting lists had DalColle at 5 and then 6-10 were all over the map.
So far Virtanen looks like a very good pick at 6. I wouldn't trade him for any of the other guys at this point even though I think Ehlers and Nylander will likely put up more points. I really like Virtanens over all game and especially his physical play which sets him apart from some of the other guys.

I predicted he'd start to rack up the points after Xmas once his shoulder fully healed. He's right on target.

Just like you don't say anything positive about Hanifin?

Pretty sure I said his talent is off the charts. If you were drafting on pure talent he probably goes 1st overall last year. All I was saying is I see why people question his IQ level.

I've watched him play about 30 times this year. I'm not basing this off of highlight reels. If you're looking for another poster to pump his tires than I apologize. He's got things to work on. That's why my original post I said I think he should play his final year in the WHL.

People said Domi struggled before this year also. That's why it's called development, you look at raw tools and you develop them to achieve his goals.

Virtanen has remarkable tools, it's about putting them together.

He can skate
Smooth acceleration
Great shot
Good passer

I also think the motivation he got from benning telling him he wants him in our top 6 next year has helped significantly

I didn't even say 1 negative thing about hanifan, your home boys got mad because I didn't say he wasn't excellent , even though the last time I talked about hanifan I said I wanted vancouver to pick Him if they have the 3rd pick.

I would rather him go back to the dub next year.
