I posted on the finnish board after yesterday to try and get a better opinion on this guy. He was super impressive at the camp!

Is there a reason he fell so far in the draft? What was his play style like in Junior finnish fans!

He had a somewhat bad season with his junior team and he had some kind of injuries that slowed him down. He played great as a 3-4 liner in U18 tournament but it didn't raise his stock too much apparently. I was waiting for him to go somewhere around late 2nd-5th round. So no real reason I guess. There are still things he could improve, and skating is the first thing. But he's way more promising than his draft number tells.

2:20 he has a cannon of a wrister:

Seems like a lot of guys the flames have taken lately have had some skating deficiencies, maybe they think this is a part of his game they can help to fix. Thanks for the insight!

Watching him live, I didn't get the sense Tuulola has trouble moving around out there. He's a big boy, he can probably stand to lose 10 or 15 lbs before he gets to the next level. But his stride's pretty fluid. I think it's just a matter of patience, tbh.

Another prospect who's skating was much lamented was Tkachuk - he's no Erik Karlsson, but he's a powerful skater. Another 'matter of time' for me. Matthew Tkachuk is never going to have trouble keeping up with the play.

Really wanted this kid with one of the Oilers 3rd rounders. Will be interesting to follow his development. He has some really good tools to work with.

Once in awhile a guy like Byfuglien can pull off some extra bulk in the show, he looked like he should drop 20 in junior. He could be one of those types.

Cool it will be sweet to watch how he does. I think he will dominate juniour.

If he has enough support from his teammates and gets a bit faster, I can see him scoring at around 0,7 - 0,8 PPG. However, last season their best scorer had 58 points in 69 games, so I may be a little too optimistic.

The Flames do have one of the best skating coaches in the world. I forget her name and her credentials (really making my case I know, :p), but I remember when the Flames hired her it was a big deal. She doesn't even appear on the Flames site either, but I know they have her (she was teach the power skating lessons at camp).

Eetu didn't look interested in the class though when I saw him.

Really nice pick by the Flames. Flames have been doing a great job at drafting in the first round and the late late rounds. The middle rounds they seem to do worse with.

Never the less its difficult to comprehend a draft unless 3 or 4 years has past.
Calgary's late round picks as of late have been very impressive. Rafikov, OEM, Mangiapane, Phillips, Falkovsky, and now E2.

Sure all of these guys all have bust potential yet as a Calgary fan who watch Darryl Sutter draft???? These guys all have the same chance to make the league and make an impact as Sutters first round picks. Actually the upside on these guys in most cases is higher than his first round picks! Fun time to be a flames fan.

Dont get me wrong on Sutter! Fantastic coach! Horrible GM!

Can anyone tell me, does Tuulola compare in any way to Jesse Joensuu? Both big bodies with some skill to score goals but perhaps lacking in some other departments?

No, Tuulola has quite a good puck control and hands. Pretty good deker. Joensuu had terrible puck control and worse hands. Tuulola is also a better goal scorer with a good wrist shot. Joensuu was always more of an all around forward. Tuulola wont probably ever be as good of a skater as Joensuu at his best though.
I don't see Tuulola as a good playmaker either. Could become a very physical power forward with a sniper shot and a good finishing ability melted with very good puck control and deking ability... guy, who can score when gets to 1 on 1 situation. Skating could become decent with hard work, but wont be among his strengths.

Could maybe become a physical third line forward, who can drop his gloves at times and score a goal now and then.

To be fair, Joensuu's skating was the biggest problem when he was as young as Tuulola. It took a lot of work to get where he is now. At 18 Joensuu looked fairly slow in Liiga, when he was 20 he was fast when he got his feet going but first steps were a work in progress.

I actually think Tuulola's stride is much much better than Joensuu's was at his age and I think Tuulola has shown much more goal scoring abilities than 18-years old Joensuu.

Then again I think Joensuu had better hands when he was younger. He was not super skilled by any means but he was actually pretty good at one-on-ones when he was a kid. But his playing style changed overseas and it somewhat looks that his hands didn't keep up when he improved his skating.
