Giving Svechnikov proper ice time should be a priority, he's perhaps their most important piece for the future. He looks more than ready to play a bigger role.

It's a tough fit with

Aho- TT
Staal- Williams duo's in key roles.

I'd say after Aho's development he's 2nd on the list.

Williams shouldn't play ahead of Svechnikov if the Canes are serious about their future.

Staal line is a shutdown line, and TT is at his best at Rw.

They are lacking that 1 skilled C right now they could play Svec with, Necas wasn't that guy, yet.

There's nothing stopping Svech from player more though, you basically have two fourth lines without Rask. He should be the main focus outside of the first two lines.

Yes he should be getting more icetime but as I said they are lacking that skilled C with Necas in the AHL and Rask injured to pair him with, and right now he doesn't have a role on those top6 lines.

Reeks of bad development. This is not just any regular prospect, its one of the best prospect the league had ever seen. He should be given every opportunity to succeed by his coach.

I know he can be one of the best wingers in his prime but a tough spot right now in Carolina.

No, he really doesn't. He looks a bit lost out there and is way too hesitant and indecisive with the puck. There are parts of his game I like and it's getting better, but those saying he's ready for a bigger role are seeing something I'm not.

Well, the flipside is that he could be put in a position to fail miserably if given too big of a role and thus be set back even more. I've watched most every game of his and IMO, he's not ready for a bigger role yet.

That said, I think they could swizzle the lines to give him a bit better linemates though, but there aren't a ton of options when the Canes essentially have 2 4th lines. When Rask comes back, that should change though. It's a catch 22 as he (Svech) isn't ready for top 6 ice time, and the Canes don't have enough good players in their bottom 6.

When Rask is back, I'd go with:

Ferland-Aho-TT
McGinn-Staal-Williams
Foegele-Rask-Svech

Or, better yet if the trade for Nylander :naughty:

Foegele-Nylander-Svech.

Unfortunately, since he was drafted into the OHL out of the USHL, he can't go to the AHL. I agree that he should go there though.
This system is so unfair to some players. Most europeans have to play ahl instead of nhl because north americans are too good for juniors they make nhl right away

You don't have to cut those lines in stone. Give him shifts on the top 6, see how he fares with linemates who are a.talented; b.better than him right here and now.

He's playing with guys who simply can't play what he's used to play. Of course he looks lost.

That's a cop out. He looks lost because he's an 18 year old rookie that isn't quite ready for the NHL yet. It's very easy to see. He has moments of looking good, but overall he looks slow both in his movement and decision making process. I'm not sure why people are afraid to admit that an 18 year old just might not be NHL ready. It's not a knock on Svech, it's the reality of the situation.

I disagree. Svechnikov is as talented as anyone in this league and hes stronger than most guys out there, hes has ready as they come.

Has been looking shaky warrior from the few games I’ve seen.

Color me unimpressed but I was never high on him before the draft anyways.

Send him down to the A boys

My limited observations:

His positioning is actually quite sound for an 18 year old offensive player, and he is adapt at creating turnovers and pokechecks at the blue line when defending. Offensively, his hands are legit and his wrister can be a laser. I can also see him being a demon on the boards with a bit more strength and better linemates to work off of. When the timing is correct, his passes are crisp and on point.

Alas, most of his troubles seem to come with pacing (going from kids in junior to the best league on the planet with fully grown men is quite a jump), a lack of insulation (combination of Canes' lack of depth and possible early returns of a rookie head coach) and just a flat out lack of confidence. He looks great on the get go and can usually be counted on to create some grade A chances early in the game. When he takes the bull by the horns he looks the part of a top flight prospect who can generate offensive opportunities in the slot (something his linemates are incapable of capitalizing on).

Indecisiveness is hurting him the most. His skill set is absolutely NHL ready (which is why a return to junior hockey should not even remotely be in the cards), but he is clearly second guessing himself when it comes to zone exits and controlling the puck on offense. As an aside, this issue seemed to plague Necas in my limited viewing as well.

My guess is that Svechnikov is one of those guys who could struggle for a good chunk of his inaugural campaign, as even an improvement in play could be hampered by Carolina's lack of roster skill and experience in the bottom six (at least for now). If he can do enough to force a change in linemates, however, I could easily see Andrei's ascent going into supernova once everything falls into place.

I never really thought he's have that big of an impact in his rookie year as an 18 year old, so, a stint with the NT at the WJC this Christmas would be good for his development. He could play at leading and staring role and then come back in the new year to have decent 2nd. half.

Only NHL teams usually don't let them go to the WJC.

No, he’s not. He gets knocked down behind the net regularly. Anyone who watches him regularly and says he’s ready is seeing what they want to see. I’m a Canes fan and am excited about Svech and see some glimpses. His last game was one of his better ones and he’s going to get better with each game, but if I was coach, he would not be in the top six.
