Just updating, Svechnikov has looked much more intense during preseason play; it's pretty clear now that he was indeed throttling it back during earlier showings. After 2 games (6-1 and 5-1 wins) he has 1-2-2 with 1 SOG, 0 PIM, 1 hit, 2 takeaways in about 28 minutes of TOI. Very strong on the puck, making more mistakes against the tougher opposition but his recovery is absolutely outstanding. The biggest thing people remark upon is his precision passing ability, which is absolutely sublime and effortless. He's been playing the PP but not the PK. He has spent a fair amount of time with Sebastian Aho, after being separated from Necas once we got to a point where multiple rookies on a line stopped being a serious option. Widely regarded (per Vegas odds, for example) as the #3 Calder candidate to start the season, behind Pettersen and Dahlin.
