Now that we have heard the final media availability from the core, coach, and gm, I'm curious what the concensus is on "running it back". It seems if dubas stays, keefe stays based off dubas comments.

As miffed as i am at this teams softness, I tend to trust in the oppinions of guys like Morgan reilly, who sais he doesn't want anything to change and that the team really is growing (I'm sure he didn't tell us everything though).

In my oppinion we need to do something, something that makes our team less meek. Not sure what that would be.

Why isn't fire managment and then let new management decide an option? (Likely means one player, likely Nylander traded, on top of other moves but probably not JT (NMC), Marner or Matthews.

Replace Keefe, assuming we can get a better coach (no idea on who it could be)
Trade MM for the highest return.
Resign AM34 for a reasonable aav + long term untill mid June. If negotiations fail and/or stall, ship his arse to the highest bider.

Try to get goalscorers with grit and determination in them.
Use available cap space to continue to improve upon the blue line.

Firing a coach is not going nuclear, it's completely normal. Dubas' loyalty to Keefe is, if anything, abnormal.

Making multiple trades doesn't really qualify as nuclear either. If they keep Samsonov then one of Murray/Woll is going to go, and they need to fill in at least 6 forward spots so chances are at least one of those will come via trade (although sure in principle they could all be UFAs/Marlies promotions).

Keefe has to be fired. If he isn't, there isn't any accountability in this organization. Dubas I'm willing to give a short leash.

I contend that staying the course and running it back is "going nuclear".

Wiping this front office clean is the normal way to go.

I think Dubas skirting around whether he’s coming back or not was just window dressing because he knows he has to fire Keefe later this week and it makes it easier to answer any question on coaching changes.

This is what will happen IMO.

Keefe & Marner preferably IF Willy agrees to re-sign.
My thoughts as well. Keefe has got to go at this point. Likeable guy, wish him the best but we need a new voice in here. At least 1 core guy has to go as well, Marner seems like the odd man out. I've been searching all week for possible trade options and I can't think of anything.

The best possible trade scenario I could think of was a trade with Arizona. The basis being Marner for Keller + Crouse. Keller is signed long term so his value is pretty high, Crouse is a big body guy with some offense, but would slot in nicely on the 3rd line. We may have to add in this scenario tbh, Marner is the best player in the deal, but he's only signed for 2 years. Getting those two guys would still keep us as a very skilled team, but also adds some much needed size to the lineup.

I'm so back and forth on this. I can't imagine any scenario where we trade any of the core 4 and win that trade. Also seeing mitch raise a cup with another team would just be awful.
He will have very minimum to do with that if it happens.

You know what's even worse ? Watching Mitch wear the blue and white and never lift the cup.

It's not impossible. If you're getting the Tkachuk in a Tkachuk-Huberdeau type deal you can definitely win the trade. Ironically Mitch for Tkachuk would've been an excellent trade but I believe Matt didn't want to be in Canada (and Dubas was still married to the idea of Mitch Marner last summer).

It all depends on Am, sure he said he wants to play here (what he said) but if he is asking for 14 million per you trade him and go nuclear/complete retool.

Does anybody in this market think he is worth Pasta’s money or more (McDavid, McKinnon)? I get he already makes more but just trying to say I would offer him 12.34 million per for 8 years. If he balks at that then you trade him for the highest bidder before the TDL.

Strip Tavares of the C and put it in Reilly, the guy who should have had it in the first place. Tavares should know his days are numbered too unless he is willing to play wing and sign for a hometown deal. Trade Nylander as I think his trade value will be higher and ensure when you talk to Marner express that when his contract is up he is either signing for what he is getting now or he too will be gone in a season.

Add more grit on the D and throughout the 2 and 3rd lines (player like Barbahev and Bertuzzi) and trade Murray for a coke machine. We need size and speed and people who play on the edge. You let it be known when an opposing team jacks your teammate if you don’t respond on the ice the mintue that play is done your A%# will be stapled to the bench. I don’t care if your name is Matthews or Accari nobody takes liberties at our players and if you ain’t down with that then we don’t want you on this team.

Keefe needs to go IMO. He keeps getting out coached unfortunately and players need to know their role and who their linemates are. Playing with lines in blender in the playoffs is just terrible.
