That's my point too. Why does San Jose care if they're overpaying someone by $1.5-2m over the next 3 years while they're rebuilding? If he gets bought out by the Rangers he's not signing in San Jose.

It's frankly bullshit that we are more or less locked out from making any moves for no reason other than the NHL can't find a way to not have the Final run until the end of June. It's a clear competitive disadvantage, but as usual when these things happen they just shrug their shoulders and pt themselves on the back as the best league in the world.

I will give the Kings credit for calling a spade a spade and moving on though. A bad start to the next season and PLD would be 1000% unmovable.

In Edmonton we usually tell ourselves things will just magically change the next year and get better, only for it to not as we have a player making too much money diminishing his tradability by the minute.

Kuemper not amazing, but at least he fills a role. Probably 1.5M or so overpaid. But only 3 years, and PLD is probably 4M overpaid for 8 years for the slacker effort he brings.
