Toronto doesn't deserve any of that ****, it's a ****ing embarrassment of a franchise, especially the year in which they'll celebrate their 50 cupless years.

Ah yes, I forgot that these things awarded based on merit - that's why Buffalo was in the first one, and Washington's been in two.

Maybe I didn't get my point across properly....but I completely agree with you...lol

My point is...we all know the Heritage cLassic was first...but the event "The Winter Classic" is an NBC created marketing ploy designed by NBC after Jon Miller saw the Heritage Classic and saw it as an opportunity to sell the NHL to US sport fans. But the "Winter Classic" is an NBC created event...this is not arguable....this is a fact! It's a production, not a historical event

I only took exception to "created" which I don't think is the same as appropriated. the same way that "the office" was a rebadged from an english sitcom and most of the cooking shows have pedigrees that start somewhere else. mabey most people fall into the shia leboeuf camp of attribution.

Although people should recognize ( because the NHL sure as hell wont tell them) that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. That being said, deciding to broadcast something, even if they ***** it out like nobody's business, is not a creative act irrespective of who is the current ( and hopefully long term) sponsor.

You're right. Ottawa should be the preferred location, given how often they sell out and all. I wonder if Melnyk would try to keep Leaf fans out this time. Nothing that lush does surprises me anymore.

The league wants to make money from this, not end up in the hole. Actually, if they hold it in Ottawa. it should still be Montreal v. Toronto, seeing as there are more of their fans in the seats when either team visits. They should also bring out the Sens Spartan before puck drop, just to add that extra touch of class.

And we're still waiting for Ottawa to win a cup.

Maybe you can have Eugene start an investigation into it.
And then he can look into this Heritage Classic vs Winter Classic debate.

It's for the fans and 100 years is a milestone(the 50 is a millstone) Why not let the fans have something to enjoy?

Maybe he could couple the game and the fact the city won't give him a casino into a single investigation. Might save him some money.

So lets give it to Ottawa and their cheap ass owner. They have so much history its crazy!!!!!!! Lots of people will love watching a team with no big rivals outside of TML. And while were at it, may as well have Ottawa host in Toronto or Hamilton seeing as the crowd will be 80% Leaf fans and 20% Sens fans. Saves Toronto fans the gas money and hotel money.

Why the hell then do they get a world cup, an all star game and an outdoor game?

The World Cup is in Toronto because the NHL knows its the biggest hockey market, not because of their 100 year anniversary. You cant have it in a city like Ottawa or Columbus. Toronto is the Hockey Mecca, its the best choice to have it by far otherwise the NHL would've chosen New York or Montreal.

Montreal gets all the vents for their centennial nobody says ****..... Toronto gets it and its such a big deal all of a sudden.

Im going to make a big fuss when either DET/NYR/CHI get in 2026 or BOS gets it in 2024.

Lol, I said that Toronto doesn't deserve all these events and the insecure fanbase of Toronto starts screaming at me about how much Ottawa sucks when I didn't even mention Ottawa once.

This is exactly why Toronto doesn't deserve these events. I can't wait to see how many jersey's litter the ice during them, I'd make a drinking game out of it but it might be dangerous to my health.

Did MTL deserve them in 2009?

So if they hadn't, their previous championships wouldn't have counted?

the Leafs are on the Stanley Cup as winners 13 times and that is a fact, if it was so easy to win a cup when there were only 6 teams, why did the Rangers only win 3 Cups during the O6 era?

I'm pretty sure that the main reason would be the different drafting rules back then.

Is Toronto planning to secede? Usually when a major sport is doing a world cup they choose a host country, not a single city to be the host. Either way I think this 2016 world cup of hockey is going to be a joke. I won't even watch it unless my team has many players participating. And unless my team stop being really good we won't have many very good under 23 players.

yes they do, specifically for people who grew up in toronto, got infected, then left for other economic opportunities.

its easy and fun to dump on the leafs, but when it comes to fan bases they are huge indepedent of who good or bad they are on the ice. Because of the current trajectory you might not see guys rocking the full leafs regallia, but they go on a tear and you will see them coming out of the woodwork.

I have no doubt they are near the top. I doubt the assertion they outnumber the Habs, Bruins, and Wings fans (especially combined).

They only got the All-Star game, not a world cup and a winter classic.

Montreal has nowhere to play an outdoor game. Saputo Stadium only seats 20k, which is less than the Bell Centre. The World Cup wasnt around in 2009, its been dead for what will be 12 years by the time next years happens. So thats a stupid complaint.

The World Cup inst really related to the Leafs 100th. The NHL wanted in it an even year so it could go every 4 like the Fifa WC and wow the next even year is 2016. It just happens to be the season of/before the Leafs centennial. The NHL has its reasons for picking TO over NYC/MTL etc.

Sorry your favorite team is irrelevant to the NHL and its brass.

Wow someone sounds sour grapes about all this. And to top it off you take a cheap shot at a fanbase. I'm sorry your team is largely irrelevant in comparison.
