I think we will still add a big C up front and a RD.
Doesn't look like Henrique will be scoring 10 goals this season let alone 20 that we hoped for the 3M we signed him at.

A more developed version of Philps and a healthy Kane up front, someone like Ceci on defense will be our adds at deadline IMO.

What is with the Ceci infatuation? We do not want, nor need, someone like Ceci.

Looking at the deals yesterday, Joseph wasn't what the Oilers were looking for, plus Pit has a history with the player. Kakko is better then the Oilers would have offered for Borgen and Carrier is still in play, imo, because you can always get him from the Habs.

Oilers need to do some things, but it's largely fine.

"Someone like Ceci" is a borderline top 4 Dman so a 4/5 Dman that plays the right side. That's all we will be able to afford and that's all that will be available.

Maybe top 5. I don't know if we're better than Dallas, Florida, Carolina, or Vegas.
Sure, I also think they could beat those teams in a playoff series. It's impossible to know right now, there's also not really any reason to panic about it, imo.

They have to shore up some things, but they have guys who can find better consistency, find some health and still with their system a little harder.

?? Ceci is awful and shouldn't be brought back. That should be very clear.

So after watching some highlights of Matheson yesterday it looks like he can flat out fly and at times can lay down the boom on opposing forwards. What are his strengths and weaknesses beyond that? I think that adding more speed to the left side is a good thing because Ekholm isn't getting any faster out there.

He is at .930 this year under Korn and his guys. Plus he is on an upward trend. He has always had the athleticism. If you look at only numbers on goal tenders you will miss very much. Thats what Korn knows and thats why he recommended both Chrona and Murray.
For example look at Devin Cooley currently leading the league with a fantastic save percentage. Then look at his past years. Ask yourself what the difference is? Then reread the article and some of Korn's quotes.

Tanner does have serious upside but remains to be seen. His play reminds me of a video i seen one time about a cheeta.
Nice butchering of Schaefer's name. What good have 1st's been to us anyways--we either select the wrong guy, trade it away, or haven't got the brains to protect it. Look at the 5 1st's before Sammy. FIVE 1ST s and we have Ekholm.
Lol at saying the looking at numbers bit In your post when you literally started your paragraph with looking at numbers after a measly 12 games. I'm sure people could find a bunch of quotes from skinners coaches in the ahl that prop him up it means nothing it's not like coaches are gonna sewer their own players.

He has an analytics chart that isn't that attractive.

If Seattle doesn't qualify Kakko, he would be a good replacement for Jeff Skinner next season
I think a ton of guys would be a good replacement lol. Skinner is deployed wrong on this team. We honestly do not need him. He is also scary in his own zone when he is tired because he is already slow.

I hope we trade him away. Nice amount of cap space there. Still have Kane coming back and Arvy (tonight I think?)

On the most recent GYB Strudwick said it's probably time for the team and player to have a conversation about how to move on from each other. Even if Skinner was playing well by his standards, his style just doesn't fit anywhere here. He recently had some decent games on the third line, then got badly exposed to the point of being benched the first time he faced a playoff level forecheck against the Panthers.

I know "only here for the playoffs!" blah blah blah, but if we opened the playoffs tomorrow with a fully healthy roster that includes Kane and Arvidsson does anyone here even have him in their opening lineup?

If Skinner wants to play in the playoffs his agent and the Oilers should probably start working on finding a playoff team to move him to. They are definitely out there.

You are right -- obviously though (at least its seems obvious doesn't it) that their is a trend 12 or 13 games is more than 1/3 of the season for these guys. Chrona likely gets 34 games and Murray 34 or 35. Regardless Murray is top four right now and Korn is saying his game is going in the right direction. Did you want to dispute that? If so why? Have you watched the guy play?
Its not like I'm touting him for a NHL starter, I'm saying given the stated attitude of the Oilers to stick with our tenders then we need to strengthen our AHL franchise. What happens now if Stuart gets injured? Right now if he is out 3 weeks or more our season is likely sewered (sorry borrowed your word there).

How much of that is being played in a role above his pay grade or being in such a role on a shit team?

Go back 20 pages, there is healthy conversation on this lol.

A group of people (including me) that think more speed and breakout ability is what we need, another group certain that his defensive metrics while playing over his head on a shitty team means he'll be bad here in a lesser role, another group that thinks we need more of a shutdown player.

I personally think that his skating and puck skill will boost our team's transition game and it allows Kulak to be full time on the 3rd pairing.

He has an outstanding toolbox, but also a 10-cent brain, as he can make aneurysm-inducing reads both with and without the puck. If you're an NFL fan, there's a lot of famous Jameis energy to his game.

But if you can put him in a specific role where he can play to his strengths (skating and carrying the puck) he can be a useful player. For the Oil, that is a dynamic they're lacking on the back end, so there is a potential fit.
