I cant imagine what the asking price is.

If the Oilers are gonna go down that path they'd have to be damn sure about Nurse and Kulak holding up as a pairing, because you're probably be spending the only assets they have (future first and second round draft picks) on a defenceman like that.

Mintyukov had some success earlier but the Ducks aren't as high on him now, so maybe it's a buy "slightly" low candidate on a young cost controlled player with upside.

I have to admit though I havent looked at how the Ducks are deploying him.
A quick glance at his TOI suggests that he is getting some tough minutes as he is at 20:43 although he might be getting caved.

So he may or may not be ready to take some shifts on Darnells right side.

Yes I feel Gibson will do better here, I think it's probably a fair assessment that any goalie playing behind a terrible D will do better behind one of the top D systems in the league. And yes, Knob/Coffey's system is that, it's simply becoming too hard to ignore the results.

I don't think the cost would be exorbinant either, the problem with Gibson in the past was always that he had a full NMC and the presumption was he wouldn't waive to go from sunny California to Edmonton. But now we have word that he would waive for Edmonton.

If you can get 50% retention I would consider it. Anaheim is better off finding someone who will take half his salary rather than paying 100% of it because Dostal is likely going to be their guy for the future and need a big raise himself.

Goaltending is the no.1 thing keeping us from a Cup, it's the no.1 thing that evens the playing field for teams hoping to beat us. Florida beat us because 3 freebie wins to start the series largely on the back of a goaltending disparity, it took 7 games to beat Vancouver because Skinner crapped the bed.

The only names that we should be interested in on that list are Mintyukov, Borgen, Andersson and maybe Provorov.

The rest of them are either washed or not any good.

He's a lefty though right? I imagine the plan would be to play him with Stecher or Emberson, and hope that he can thrive against soft comp this season, and eventually take Ekholm's spot in a couple years.

I kind of favour a more short-sighted, win now move if it's available, but I do think they're in a position where they should be trading for the best player available, regardless of position.

You're right...he is a lefty. I assumed he was a RHD....should have double checked.

Im with you...not sure about this move for this season but damn he would be a nice player to have.
They would have him for less than $1M until 2026/27.

Looks like he's played some tough minutes beside Dumoulin. They're #1 and 2 for elite comp minutes on the Ducks.

Not sure if he or Dumo were playing the right side.

Andersson and guys like that will cost a fortune, Provorov probably a 1st for a guy who will bolt right after the season. Mintyukov would cost a lot.

I can definitely see the logic behind making a big move for a young LD that they really like. You have to figure Ekholm is going to slow down and probably wind-down to more of a second or third pairing guy at some point, so bringing in a cost-controlled young D that you think could take his spot could seriously extend their window.

It's a huge risk though, because it means you'll have to get creative with assets to add more to this year's team. But hypothetically, if they trade for someone like Mintyukov, they'd still have a ton of cap space to add at the deadline. I feel like this whole scenario only makes sense if you don't love what else is out there more win-now moves.

I do think Gibson can succeed here. But it still is a gamble for sure.

All this talk about adding a defenceman isn't gonna fix the problem we have in goal. Skinner gas played pretty good last few games but unfortunately he will fold again anna again. His consistency has always been his Achilles

This problem in goal is getting eradicated as we speak... slowly. Just because we started off slow doesn't mean its going to last all season. A problem we've had for so long is a top 4 right side Dman. Why would you not fix that when Skinner and Picakrd are slowly picking up their game?
