Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

In your Rantanen deal, I wonder if Arvidsson could go the other way, that way the Canes get a scoring forward, as well as assets? I do like Arvy, but I would trade him for this kind of change/upgrade.
I checked the cap, Arvid doesn't have to go the other way if we use Kane LTIR and Pickard 1M. But if we are looking to upgrade the Klingberg position, Arvid would certainly have to be traded

That's my expectation, plus I (and I know I don't do this much) am trying to consider what the Canes might be looking for in return. It's a tougher sell to get just futures, after trading what amounts to your 2 leading scorers.

In the Florida series, all the goals in Game 3 were from secondary scorers (all gone now but I digress).
A whole bunch of non-McDrai guys scored in Game 4, the depth guys scored 2 of the goals in Game 5, they scored 4 goals in Game 6 and the depth guys scored the only goal in Game 7.

The depth scoring was actually pretty tremendous in the SCF, that was not the issue. The issue was scoring 1 goal total in the first 2 games of the series, none by the top guys, and nothing from them in Game 7 and Skinner letting in a soft goal on the game winning goal. The depth guys were great in the last 2 series in particular, not to mention the historically good PK led by the depth guys.
Now it's a new set of depth guys so we'll see how they do come playoff time but depth scoring was not an issue last year.

Don't get me wrong, the top 5 (McDraiman, Bouchard, Ekholm) did a lot of heavy lifting as all top guys usually do for teams but the depth guys weren't an issue last playoffs in the back half in particular.
I think the biggest detriment to the Oilers in the Cup finals was Draisaitl playing at like 50% capacity if even that, he could hardly skate and was a non-factor.
Actually the secondary scoring was anything but tremendous (when McDavid and Driaisaitl werent scoring) in the SCF.
Thats not an opinion...thats reality.
To properly see that you have to look at the losses...not the wins.
To get an even better picture of what I am talking about expand that and look at every loss in the entire playoffs and not just focus on the SCF.

As I said McDrai scored a grand total of 2 goals in those 11 loses. 1 goal each.
The key to beating this team is to shut down McDrai. Thats true because when you take McDrai out of the game the remaining players arent much of a threat....thats especially true this season.

Its actually worse this year because the team is paying more money and getting no improvement in secondary scoring compared to last season.

Well, very few teams are going to win many games in the playoffs when their top 2 lines aren't scoring.

As I said before, the Oilers top 5 did a lot of the heavy lifting in the first half of the playoffs in particular (this is always going to be the case with a top heavy team with a top heavy salary structure so get used to it) but the Oilers didn't lose the SCF's because they weren't getting enough contributions from their depth players. 1 goal total in the first 2 games so, yeah, the depth guys didn't score but neither did the top guys who get paid to score. Then the depth guys scored plenty in the next 4 games and Janmark scored the only goal in Game 7. Depth scoring was not why they lost the SCF's, their top guys put up 1 assist total in the 3 losses in Florida and Skinner let in a stinker against Reinhart in Game 7. No team is winning a Cup with their top guys going M.I.A. in 3 of the losses unless your goalie stands on his head and steals one or two.

But yes, the Oilers need more from Arvidsson and Skinner. Not getting enough bang for their buck for $7m even though Skinner has come on as of late and Arvidsson has played well away from the puck and defensively. Need more scoring from them in particular.

Agreed. Holloway alone is outproducing both Skinner and Arv. 7 million vs 2 million...

Would add Rico into the we need more from you camp. 10 million bucks of we need more between the 3.
