Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

Don
No worries. I am sure 97 will break another Gretzky record and the PK will be record like again. All sustainable.

I guess at least Stu improved from his 3.68GAA 0.883 to last years 0.901 2.45gaa

35 playoff games. 2.83GAA 0.894%

WOOF
Dont forget Bouchard breaking the record for defencemen- a historic powerplay, and the Oilers becoming the first team ever to win a series putting up 0.833 save %. I’m sure it’s all replicable

It would be extremely stupid of the Oilers to not utilize Kane's cap space just to allow the option for Kane to play a few meaningless regular season games before the playoffs.
He’s not going to be back before the playoffs. I doubt he even plays in the playoffs. His whole upper body was rebuilt…lol…then his knee.

Vejmelka is an UFA. No guarantee he will sign. Gibson would be a better option now. Sign Vejmelka if he's interested in coming to Edmonton and trade Stuart in the offseason now that I have the time to think about it.
Imo Vejmelka being impending UFA is a good thing. We get to test drive him before we commit to him. If Gibson works out, his term is worth it, but we don't know for sure if he would. Goalies especially can react unpredictably to a new situation

We are a contender who can attract and keep talent. What we need is contract flexibility because the cap is what is important to us.

Just responding to Severalli's take.

I honestly don't think the new management group would be that shortsighted though. Hopefully they don't turn around and prove me wrong.

He would drive us insane. Huge, decent hands, but just never ever produces. Never will produce. Barks more than bites. If he played RH side I’d be somewhat more interested. He is what he is and I’d aim a lot higher.
what does he do and where do you put him? If we want a bottom-6 player that hits and kills penalties, there's probably a lot of cheaper options that are better hitters and better penalty killers.
He has fantastic underlying numbers.

If mcdavid is hurt, oilers should rest him. Load management. I would rather have healthy Mcdavid for the playoffs than a 70 percent mcdavid. So...who's the idiot in charge ?
Honestly just think it's a slow regression of his game. Players do regress. He relies so much on his freakish athletic ability and he's lost just a bit of it.

TIL oilfans is still up and running. I think I lasted posted there in ~2006. There was a poster named Tombstone who had convinced half the forum he was an insider who worked for the team. Turns out he was just full of shit lol.
I remember that a**hole. He said he was doing a social experiment in the end lol. Had everybody fooled for so long.

Lol yeah! That part was also definitely shit too lol. Tried to pass it off as if it was all for some research paper he was writing for a sociology class or something lol. Just some loser who got a kick out of it all I think.

Frank Seravalli poured cold water on Gibson and Donato to Edmonton. Says they don't know if Kane will be back or not so it might be money in money out.
He also said we would probably be looking for a big body who can stir a bit of shit up. Sounds like Kane to me, so I'm thinking that Seravelli is carrying water for the org to keep plausible deniability in case the league tries to come down on us for skirting the rules, whether Frank knows it or not. Because why would we be looking to bring in a carbon copy of Kane if we know he will be back?

Maybe it's just copium, but I think there is less than 1% chance Kane is back before the end of the regular season.

Yeah he said it was some paper he was writing for Uni loll. I don't remember how long he did it for, but he had everybody going back then.

I think his name was TouchStone

OK the offense didn't show up. But they showed up for game 3... it was still a series being down 2-0. You aren't going to convince me that the offense is the reason they lost.
The Oilers lost 11 games in total during their Stanley Cup run last season.
In those 11 losses Ekholm had just as many goals as McDavid and Draisaitl combined....which was 2 goals.
So Ekholm out scored both McDavid and Draisaitl individually in all 11 losses last season.

Even Holloway outscored both McDavid and Draisaitl with his total of 2 goals in those losses.
Not nearly good enough production from the secondary scoring on this team.

Shut down McDrai and you have an excellent chance of beating the Oilers. Thats just a fact and its a fact that still exisits on the current version of this team.

So yes...secondary scoring has been and still is an issue for this team.

Bobrovsky was playing like the #1 goalie in world the first 2 games. The offense didn't show up, but it's like some posters refuse to give him credit.

Read my post.
I included every loss from every series last playoffs for a reason.

The secondary scoring on this team wasnt good enough then and it still isnt good enough.
As the playoffs roll along the quality of the teams and the coaching gets a lot better. Better systems and better execution of those systems.
Shut down McDrai and you have an excellent chance to beat this team and the cream of the crop in this League have systems in place to do just that.

Goaltending is an issue but the level of denial on here around secondary scoring being an issue is astonishing.
