Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

Yep.

These are world class smooth brain takes.

"If you take a goalie with great stats, and put him on a team with better defense, his stats are going to get WORSE!" - Gregor and his ilk. These guys are f***ing idiots.

This is why as a journalist you have a duty to be objective and not get attached to players. Clearly a segment of our media are basically buddy-buddy with Skinner and/or "like him".

Be a f***ing professional and do your job. If Skinner was having this kind of season in Toronto or Montreal (and they were in a Cup window), he would be getting torn a new strip off his ass. Even the Calgary media would be asking questions long before now. Edmonton sports media is a massive embarrassment.

Complete kiddie glove treatment.

A few thoughts:

-I admit to having become a bit unnerved by Skinner in goal. We he is bad, he’s horrible. That said, Gibson has been hot garbage for years now and has a long history of being injury prone. We have precious little cap space and precious few assets to improve. All things being equal, Gibson isn’t the move I’m going to make.

- this team still cannot handle an aggressive forecheck. As surprisingly good as our D corps has been in shot suppression and has gotten over the early wobble defending the rush, if we run up against Florida again, we are cooked. What’s the answer?

-maybe a healthy Kane and “playoff version” Arvidsson fixes this, but our wingers are on the perimeter way too often. We miss Holloway and Foegele a lot. A big crease crashing winger with top six finish would be highly desirable if one becomes available.

-lastly, a 3rd line center with hair on his ass that can take a hard match against the opponents #1C would improve our Cup chances a lot. Henrique, whom I respect a lot, doesn’t look like he’s it, and Philp probably isn’t quite ready.

Knoblauch just said it on Oilers Now: we need better goaltending and we can improve on it
Just listened to the segment, you're reading too much into it. He said it as a passing comment in the middle of saying that everything needs to be better, Special Teams, defense, goaltending etc.
He's essentially saying that the team needs to improve in certain areas like every coach does, he wasn't implying that they need to upgrade on Skinner if this is what you were implying. It was a nothing comment really tbh.

In fact, as I listen to the rest of the segment right now and his horrible connection finally cut off, he was talking about how "phenomenal" Skinner was later in the Vancouver series and the next two series so quite the opposite actually, he praised Skinner if anything.
With all due respect, you're misleading people with this post which you tend to do sometimes.

You clearly didn't understand the post. Must be too hard focusing on anything else other than bashing Bowman

I was replying to the words you typed, so if I didn't understand them, that's not on me. You're trying to downplay Skinner's poor play in favor of some nebulous concept like "missed assignments". Meanwhile, in reality, we have actual numbers that show a) our overall team defense is excellent at suppressing high danger opportunities b) our starting goalie sucks at stopping low danger opportunities. Hmm, which has more credibility?

The 2 goals against Det were direct results of missed assignments after Skinner made the initial save

Nuge and Hyman getting stuffed in the crease by their dmen was the result of successful assignments

This isn't rocket appliances. It's hockey 101.

So when you post stuff like credibility...it's pure comedy

The issue is this would be a bigger mistake than getting rid of Dubnyk and seeing him win the Vezina.
I don’t think that happened. Dubnyk’s best season was 2014/15 when he went 27-9-2 with a 1.78 gaa and a .936 sv%. He finished a distant third (one first place vote) to Price (27 first place votes) in the Vezina voting.

Skinner does have one thing in common with Dubnyk. A tendency to not pay attention and suffer from wandering concentration. I swear I still recall Dubnyk letting in so many goals on shots from the corner because he wasn’t ready and they would bounce right between his legs. Dubnyk learned to pay attention. I wonder if Skinner will.

Wasn’t Hutton the starter?

Im pretty sure theres tons of examples of goalies with good numbers on bad teams. How about Darcy Kuemper for the Coyotes? Luongo for years in Florida? Devan Dubnyk here? We had trash-ass defence his whole tenure and his numbers were pretty good. We had a few goalies post solid numbers here during the DoD and get run out of town despite our trash defence being the clear culprit. Mike Smith had some good years on some bad teams, Bobrovsky early on in Columbus? Carey Price for a few years in Montreal keeping things afloat. Thomas Vokoun. Dominik Hasek. Giguere/Khabibulin/Bryzgalov. Corey Schneider posted .92X’s on a bad devils team at the time…. I don’t know, I think you could get a long list. Connor Ingram recently? Dustin wolf right now in Calgary- Kiprusoff for many years for that matter- Joey Daccord in Seattle is probably keeping them afloat.

Frank Seravalli poured cold water on Gibson and Donato to Edmonton. Says they don't know if Kane will be back or not so it might be money in money out.

What do you guys think of Jordan Greenway from Buffalo for an add up front?

UFA. 3 Mil.

what does he do and where do you put him? If we want a bottom-6 player that hits and kills penalties, there's probably a lot of cheaper options that are better hitters and better penalty killers.

Not really. He just moved to an infinitely better defensive team so that his bad goals were less noticeable because there were far less total goals. His numbers were better in Edmonton than Minnesota (except for his 1st year in Minny when he won the Vezina). He was the goaltender to team equivalent of Jonathon Cheechoo playing on Thornton's wing.

Meh. I don't buy this for a second, no matter how you spin it

You think the coaches and players DON"T recognize missed assignments? You think they don't see Stetcher missing a tie up despite it being in the first period?

You think they don't see Skinner making 2 amazing saves in the first despite 3 shots in the first...and who was to blame for those shots?

Better yet, if it breaks down to EXACTLY how you spin it...why hasn't he been pulled more? Literally the only logical answer would be that the ORG and STOOOOOOOOOOPID coaching staff are muppets controlled by the untouchable Schwartz....which is basically the sentiment around here

There is a reason he got pulled last game vs games like St Louis and Det....despite the shots

Care to figure out why?
Whether you buy it or not, I really don’t care but those are the stats.

Two games is a small sample size. Hell, Ben Scrivens made 59 saves in a game once, which doesn’t mean he was a consistent and reliable goalie. Skinner is incredibly streaky and for a goalie, that’s the worst kind of streaky player to have because it’s either Jekyl or Hyde with him. Hard to be confident in your goalie when you don’t know which one you’re getting each night.

His season over season stats aren’t getting better either, they’re declining as well despite the defense having a pretty strong showing. Skinner is not the guy to win with and it’s an incredible fail for two GMs and currently a third throwing caution to the wind by not getting solid goaltending. Pickard is what he is, a reliable backup goalie but when a goalie of his calibre is outperforming the starter and saved them from a R2 exit last summer, that’s a problem.

lol these guys think Skinner will get at least 5 million bucks.

Jeezus christ the delusion

"We are hitting the panic button too early. We are doing fine"

As usual, these guys are not talking about his numbers vs playoff teams. Which are atrocious

"I would run Skinner this year and next year and evaluate"
