Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

Are you guys looking to move Jeff Skinner's cap hit?

He has a NMC. I am sure the Oilers would like to move on from him. I doubt he wants to move especially to a non playoff team. Not sure how many playoff teams are lining up for him.

Just been a weird year. He hasn’t got much opportunity here. Hes been fairly productive compared to several of our other wingers considering his lack of opportunity. Knoblauch doesn’t like his game, which is fine but I don’t understand why they signed him in the first place if they didn’t have a plan for him.

I feel like the tide turned in the last stretch of games, I think they're going to give him more opportunity the rest of the way.

Yeah potentially.

Also one game from now, McDrai will be reunited lol

Verbeek would have seen lots of Savoie. If he is the ask for Gibson 50% retained you need to pull the trigger.

If we can’t get Gibson @ 50% for like a second, its time to move on. Verbeek can pound sand. Figure something else out.

Canadian NHL goalies, 2024-25 save percentage (minimum 25 starts):

Logan Thompson – .921
Darcy Kuemper – .919
Mackenzie Blackwood – .917
Cam Talbot – 906
NHL AVERAGE – .902

Adin Hill – .900
Stuart Skinner – .900
Sam Montembeault – .897
Jordan Binnington – .897
So you saying Skinner was Team Canada 4 Nations caliber, eh? ;)

woof

That Seth Jones/Dallas rumor is wild. Theoretically, Dallas could end up with Jones/Ceci/Dumba down the right side if that trade goes down, which is like an allstar level of overrated/mistake prone players all piled together.

Of course, Dumba probably goes the other way as a cap dump(The Dumba signing was a bust? who could have seen that coming?!). Still, it's hilarious to think the kind of game in, game out disaster a trio like that could potentially present.

Taking Montenbault in the 4 nations team instead of Logan Thompson. Or Bennington instead of basically anyone… was crazy lol

Seth Jones is overpaid like Nurse, but the guy is not a terrible player.

That is why it is a joke lol. LT is insane this year. It's not best on best

There does seem to be more than a bit of smoke, so I could see your source being right

The biggest thing I think is if 1) they convince Gibson to ride 1A/1B with Skinner (rather than being handed the reigns completely), and if not 2) where would Skinner go if Gibson wants to be the bonafide starter?

That could end up stalling / killing any potential deal too
Why? Just play the hot goalie. It's not like Skinner is being paid to be a starter. Gibson mentoring and pushing Stew is what we need.

(Jeff) Skinner is not getting traded.

"I don’t envision that being the case," Bowman said of potentially approaching Skinner about waiving his no-move clause. "He’s shown the real willingness to work through things with our group, and I commend him on that. He’s had a really great attitude the entire time. Haven’t had any complaints from him at all. He’s a professional and he’s got a lot of pride. He wants to take a step forward and play a bigger role. We’ve seen signs of that very recently, not only scoring the last game, but also made some noticeable plays with determination and finding a way to be able to contribute. That’s a great sign.
"There are not a lot of games left even though there’s a month till the deadline. I suppose things can always change, but that’s not the focus right now for Jeff."

Skinner has done pretty good, especially for a guy who’s still so early in his career. 19 playoff wins in 2 years as the teams starter, I think Bob is the only goalie in the league with more in that time.

He’s #4 on the Oilers all time playoff wins list. Fuhr, Ranford, Moog, Skinner.
Skinner also has a better playoff record than players like Saros and Gibson who are sub .500 and have been in the league for much longer.

It never truly is though. there are always execs. that have personal issues with players so they don't pick them or they try to big brain everything and leave off deserving players because of idiotic things like "there's no role for that player on this team". or the reverse and add players that have no business near a best on best because of "intangibles"

It usually works out for Canada because they are so deep but occasionally, like the World Juniors this year, or potentially this 4 Nations tourney, where if Canada does lose, the blame should fall squarely on the management's shoulders for stupid roster choices, with Logan Thompson being exhibit A.

Some more nerdy stats for you ladies and gentleman

Today's edition of Stu and another goalie vs Top Teams: Karel Vejmelka:

Vejmelka vs Winnipeg .926 (Stu was .615)

Vejmelka vs Dallas; Last Game: .897 & First Game: 905 (Stu was .870 vs them)

Vejmelka vs Washington; Last Game: .938 & First Game: .818 (Stu had an .786)

Vejmelka vs Colorado; Last Two Games:.958 & .943 & First Game: .808 (Stu's last game vs COL: .750, Game previous: .880, First Game: .964)

Vejmelka vs Florida .935 (Stu vs Florida .786)

Vejmelka vs Toronto .914 (Stu vs Toronto .857
Wow.

Consistency:

Vejmelka (34 GP) Games AT or Under .870: 8; Games under .800: 0

Skinner (37 GP) Games AT or Under 870: 13; Games under .800: 5

GSAx:

Vejmelka (minimum 20 Games) - GSAx: 15; GSAx per 60: 16

Skinner (minimum 20 Games) - GSAx: 35; GSAx per 60: 35
Team Defensive Rankings: via NaturalStatTrick:

Oilers: 1st HDCA/60, 3rd HDGA/60, 4th SCA/60, 3rd CA/60, 6th SA/60, 8th GA/60, 3rd xGA/60.

Utah: 10th HDCA/60, 18th HDGA/60, 14th SCA/60, 9th CA/60, 14th SA/60, 16th GA/60, 23rd xGA/60.

One plays on a top 5 defense, the other doesn't.

I agree, I’m just saying that because apparently Gibson wants to move to be a starter, so if he feels like he’s not going to be, he may not waive

I don't know what the argument is here guys...

Gibson is 10x the goalie Skinner is.
To me it’s become “WE NEED A STARTING GOALIE!!!” followed by hearing Gibson would waive for Edmonton, “NOT THAT STARTING GOALIE!!”.

Anaheim was terrible under Eakins, they were on the ledge of a rebuild and arterial vein bled out goals against. Terrible teams give up a lot of goals, which in turn affects the goalies’ overall stats. I don’t understand how this isn’t taken into account.

Get Gibson. He’ll be motivated to not only win but take the starting job away from Skinner. He’s proven he’s a good goalie in this league. Put any other HoF goalie on an Eakins team and their numbers would be shit too.
