Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

What would you think of us adding Oleksiak if we are going to play Nurse and Kulak together? Or Murphy if we also get Donato in the same deal?

Could Oleksiak insulate Klingberg? Could Murphy help settle Nurse's game down?
Oleksiak has been a very competent 2nd pairing d-man for multiple years, this season his numbers do appear to take a hit when not paired with Montour, but I think it's reasonable assumption we'll get quality minutes out of him. I do suspect Oleksiak will be priced higher than we likely want to pay for a 3rd pairing d-man, so if we got him it would likely be with the intention of him playing with Nurse.

Murphy has generally been one of the weaker 2nd pairing d-men in the league, I've said for years the high end of his game is solid, but it's not the norm, this season is one of the few ones where he's been more good than bad on most nights. Whether it works out or not is a roll of the dice.

From what I've gathered is CHI is very open to retaining half on Murphy and essentially want to make a similar trade to the Jake McCabe deal, but I don't consider Murphy to be anywhere close to McCabe as a player.

I laugh at how our goaltending turned out. Skinner was never supposed to be the goalie for Edmonton- they just f’d up so bad with Campbell and Skinner fell ass backward into the position. He had a decent 1st year and they fell head over heels. Originally, Skinner, under Schwartz tutelage found himself in the ECHL (I think during Covid). At that time, media was turning on Koskinen and would say “oilers have no choice- no goalies in the pipeline”. I remember Gazola and Nielsen trashing Skinner saying he’ll never be an NHL goalie. Then, Slylvain Rodrigue works with him- makes him an AHL goalie. Then, through a comedy of errors, he ends up as the Oilers starter.

Long story short- the goaltending scouting and development sucks balls. The only decent coach they had got poached by Florida. The goaltending department starts and ends with Schwartz. They need to blow that dept up and build a proper goalie dept (like other NHl teams have). Jackson rebuilt everything- and again, the most important position is totally ignored. I don’t get it. The hiring of Schwartz was purely because of Bob Greene. Get the best f***ing goalie to give the two generational players on the team to win a cup. Anything less is an utter failure

Exactly. Get the best last line of defense. We could have had Pronger and his Twin last game on top of our top pair. What would they do on those 2 goals he let in. The best last line of defense here is easy to beat.

The margin of error is so tiny in the playoffs. You can't f*** around.

Still need to play better team D

FFS look at the Cucks. Shutout COL. They had great goaltending tonight too, but held TO to 1 goal. They worked their tails off today.

We have more faults than the goalie, but get a damn goalie.

It will light a fire under these guys and propel them. It did it to COL

A friggin goalie playing well inspires so much confidence. We seen that in 2006. Rollie struggled a tad his first few games. This guy catapulted us to the finals.

I hope we have a Mac T line this week on the radio. "Sometimes you have to overpay for 920 goaltending". Gibson is 913sh. Same shi**.

I would love getting that guy

That's too much. Hell no to a 1st

I would rather trade a 1st for Gibson, a guy who will make a difference

That is the rub--what are you willing to pay for rental? As for Gibson? ON the ducks boards they were speculating earlier in the year that Edmonton was on his NTC list.

If we do go for a goalie, I think it will be one we have not thought about too much

Two insiders have said Gibson would waive to come here. That would come from the Gibson camp as a hint. He has playoff pedigree. I have watched a bunch of his games this year. Guy can move. Plays on a dumpster fire. He isn't even old. This turd org played Mike Smith in 97 prime years.

He is still playing way better than Stu. I don't care, overpay for that guy. He is not a rental either.

Donato is different. I don't go nuts on a pure rental.

Yeah I'm not down for trading a 1st for a pure rental. It needs to be a player that is useful and here for a couple of years at least. We've lost a lot of young players (Holloway, Broberg, Kesselring) the last few years, trading 1sts is OK but I think you gotta get a player in return then who moves the needle for a couple of years.

I'm not sold on Gibson, as I'm more so leaning towards this year being a outlier of his last 6, rather then 5 of his last 6 years being out outliers of his carrier

Having said that, IF the price was right, and they took pickard back....id be willing to run a gibson/stu duo just for the sake of not running it back again this year and hoping for a different result

You are like the homeless guy I ran into NY when I was going into a Deli. I went in and got him a great breakfast. I came out and this guy started telling me he didn't like what I got lol. This is a true story. I was trying to be nice.

Gibson would SH** on Skinner. You act like they play for the same teams.

I'm not sure what this has to do with hockey or the oilers, are you trying to hit on me?

I think Ryan Donato would be pretty good as a winger or centre and he’d be good wirh Leon or McD. He has very good IQ based on my highlights of him lol.

I bet he’d re-sign with Edmonton too

If we get him, it's a very slick move by baldy.

Also, is anyone actually going to watch this tournament?

I'm sticking to the Bakersfield Condors AKA Meaningful hockey lol

So you have no problem giving up Matt Lavoie and 2026 1st for him?
lol- who said Matt Savoie and the 1st is the ask?

They can have Lavoie

Wait until Dusty gets ahold of him

The Ducks backup goaltenders played on the same team as Gibson and the last year he outperformed the backups in sv% or the actual starter that took his job since he dropped the ball so much was the 2018-19 season (technically one goalie did, but only played 5 games, so we'll ignore that).

I'd somewhat look at Gibson in a similar light to Connor Murphy, except instead of waffling between good and bad with Murphy, Gibson bounced between elite and bad depending on the night. One thing I'll say in Gibson's defense is ANA had a soul crushing effect on some players especially during the Eakins years and both Lindholm and Fowler bounced back on new teams.

Despite Gibson being elite in the past and putting up an elite season in the present I don't know how you gloss over a player being mostly shit for the 5 prior seasons especially with a $6.4M cap-hit and signed for 2 more years.

IMO Gibson has to come with retention I want to say 50%, but maybe $2.9M is enough and the cost shouldn't be more than a 2nd round pick. Fowler I'd say has been better for the past half decade and went for a 2nd round pick and came with retention.

From what I've heard though is the Ducks brain trust view him as an elite goalie and have never moved from that position and want a trade that reflects their evaluation.

Gibson right now will trounce skinner. He needs 50% retention or skinner goes back and retain less.

You’d need 50% retention on Gibson no matter what. Way too long of a horrible track record to risk taking on another contract you might need to buyout. He’s having a good season, but he’s still a massive risk.
