Never should have got to that point, they could have locked both of them up as RFAs earlier.

We tried to do the same thing to the two of them as they did to McLeod two years prior and it blew up in the front office’s face.

McLeod was never going to get an offer sheet over two recent, high draft picks that excelled during the playoffs. What a bad gamble by management to try and strong arm them into signing cheap contracts.

I dont think I'm gonna convince anyone here otherwise so maybe I'll just stop ranting about it. I'm just passionate about something I see as a clear issue for a team trying to win a cup.

Edmonton has the best 5v5 HDCA/60 with only 9.31. We are also 7th best in the league with SCA/60 with 24.43. Can the defence be better, sure but you could easily make the argument that we are one of the best defensive teams in the league. Were 2nd in the league in SCF/60 and 2nd in the league in HDCF/60 so we're also elite offensively.

Meanwhile Skinner ranks 61st in gsax with a -1.7. Someone like Oettinger is ranked 20th with a +9.3. Gibson has been unreal, ranked 6th with a +14.6. It seems like a clear upgrade. He was unreal in the playoffs before and has better career numbers. To me hes a clear upgrade or at least someone you can tandem with.

The hope I see a lot is that Skinner turns it on in the playoffs while Gibson cools down. The argument is to spend the asset and upgrade elsewhere despite having an area of the team that is clearly underperforming to this point.

It is almost a no brainer to go get him and the guy (American) has made it clear he would waive for EDM. SLam dunk move.

Nothing in life is guaranteed, but do we think he would give us at minimum what Skinner is giving us? He can't be much worse. Guy has like a 913 right now on that sh** team

In general I wanted the sexy big fish deadline addition, but that last game really changed my mind. Now my thoughts are goaltending went from strongly suggested upgrade to mandatory.

Defense Klingberg even when the rust is fully off, I'm getting the impression that at this point in his career he is meant to play the role of 3rd pairing D who feasts on weak competition, but flounders against tough match-ups and needs to deployed accordingly. Meaning we either need a new 2nd pairing D or someone who can fill in Kulak's spot if he moves up.

Then at forward, while I know people like creating the sexy big scoring lines around McDavid and Drai, with the personnel we have I just see a lot of guys who can chip in and we could just go deep and have 4 lines that are a danger to score.

My thoughts are go 4 duo's of: Drai + Skinner, McDavid + Hyman, RNH + Arvi, Henrique + Perry and then the best 3rd wheels we can to support them even if 1 or 2 players are punching above their weight class. An offense by committee strategy and we always have the option to load up if the game situation deems it necessary.

I think a goalie has to be the #1 priority followed by a partner for Nurse. I just don’t just Klingberg or Emerson when the intensity ramps up in the playoffs.

Donato is a solid player but not for a 1st. If they wanted this kind of player they should have just kept Foegele, like what is the management here even good for?

He’s an American too, high probability he bolts and signs with a US team in the summer.
