Listening to rishaug and Gregor podcast and they think all is well with skinner
They must know the Skinner family or something
Those two are embarrassing frauds
Listening to rishaug and Gregor podcast and they think all is well with skinner
He’s one of the worst oilers media members. Only weasel Spector is a tier above. I stopped listening to anything Gregor says after tuning in once on his radio show and seeing how truly condescending he is towards the fanbase.I don't think he understands how stupid he is. I still can't believe that comparison of Tanev with Ceci LOL
Connor McDavid has Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard as his goalies for the Playoffs.
Sidney Crosby had Marc-Andre Fleury and Matt Murray for the Playoffs
Who's better lol
Gregor is defending Skinner like he's a messiah lmfao
There is a recency bias to talent evaluation and with goaltending you are measured against your peers.
Career: .906
Chased out of town for not being good enough.
They also both played/play on very different teams. There is a recency bias to talent evaluation and with goaltending you are measured against your peers.
So Koskinen's last 2 seasons being: 2020-21 & 2021-22 (which were weaker than the prior 2)
Where he posted a 0.899 and a 0.903 respectively. The league average save percentage for those years was 0.908 & 0.907 respectively. So across those 2 seasons he was cumulatively 0.013 below league average.
Skinner was conversely 0.002 above league average last season and 0.002 below average this season, so he is perfectly average when you put his 2 most recent seasons together.
Skinner doesn't seem like he's good enough to help us win a Cup at the moment, but unlike Koskinen I don't think Skinner's NHL career would end if we decided not to re-sign him.
I would pay a premium to acquire Laine for that spotMaybe we can get a top 6 forward that can push Nuge off the PP
Earlier in the season all indication from management led one to think they would stand pat on goaltending. You have to think this season is forcing them to rethink and work on an adjustment plan. If they believe it’s ok to go into the post season with Skinner as a number 1, I don’t know how they look CMcD in the eye at negotiation time and tell him they want him to sign and will do everything to help him be successful. I know that sounds over the top, but this goalie just isn’t going to get it done.I have a feeling that the Oilers stick with Skinner heading into the playoffs. This summer is when we see some changes after Skinner loses multiple playoff games for us and Bouchard reaches a record for most giveaways in a postseason. Both will be gone this offseason, which is essential for us to take that next step imo
That one really crushed me. I’d seen all the Hall of Famers go do it shouldn’t have but man was that trade a gut punch. And I held out faint hope he would come back in the summer. When my son turned 10 I took him to Edmonton to see Smytty’s return. What a great night that was.Ryan Smyth did eventually come back here, but it definitely took him about 4 years to get over the Oilers trading him instead of giving him the contract he wanted.
Traded a player like that instead of signing him when they've really been in the trenches for you for years is a big slap in the face to the player.
I remember in summer 2007 some Oilers fans were holding out hope that Smyth would come back as a UFA then ... nope. Packed his bags for Colorado and didn't give us the time of day.
Frustration? YES, i've given into the multiverse as well at times! In a world we do trade for a goalie I just hope Skinner goes and Picard stays.
Skinner seems like the kind of guy that would be a bad back up? Picard has been a good back up?
I have to admit I don't know much about goaltending, what do ya'll think?
They must know the Skinner family or something

He might be able to get it done but he definitely needs someone else capavle of running with the starter’s net to complement him. As long as it’s Pickard ( who would be a terrific backup to someone not prone to turning ice cold)they are risking not winning in this window.Earlier in the season all indication from management led one to think they would stand pat on goaltending. You’d think a guy like him who had the audacity to say nonsense like Chris Tanev isn’t an upgrade over Cody f***ing Ceci or Bouchard wouldn’t replace Barrie on the PP would finally learn to shut the f*** up for once. One of the biggest condescending oilers media members with a voice that sounds like nails on a chalkboard
When you add the fact that we are a much better team now, with a much better defensive structure, it's arguable that Koskinen was better than Skinner. I definitely wouldnt say Skinner's clearly betterThere is a recency bias to talent evaluation and with goaltending you are measured against your peers.

I think the majority here are willing to take that chance.Skinner doesn't seem like he's good enough to help us win a Cup at the moment, but unlike Koskinen I don't think Skinner's NHL career would end if we decided not to re-sign him.
Gregor, albeit, does support lots of charities, he also has an ignorant side of him where he will NEVER admit he's wrong. Question him on Twitter, and he will say "That's not what I said" and just keep fighting you until either 1 of 2 things happens:
1. You stop posting stuff at him and he wins the argument
2. Blocks you so you cannot see him anymore.
He's an ass.
Frank routinely dunks on Gregor and his bone headed pontificating. He calls him out on his wild assertions that are often without fact or back up. It reinforces how little Gregor sometimes know. It’s actually great radio. I don't believe they try for that as an “act”, it feels much more organic and just Gregor being Gregor.Hes definitely galvanized a portion of the face base. I can see why a lot of fans don't listen to him anymore.
However I'm going to.date myself a bit but I've listened to Gregor for over 20 years and he's gotten a lot better now than he used to be. Sure, he still has his moments where he's bone headed and wrong but he's gotten a lot better now at respecting other people's opinions. When he says something he usually has a reason - he typically has some statistic that supports what he's saying. I have a bit of a soft spot for him (ego aside) for basically saving sports radio in Edmonton and all the charitable work he does. You have to think he owes the Oilers a lot so he's not going to bite the hand that feeds him.
The best is when he argues with Frank on the rundown. Frank will basically be telling Gregor he knows something as fact but can't disclose the information and Gregor just doesn't listen to him. Frank has also been a guy who fans can find to be arrogant so it works snd he calls gregor out om his shit.
