Sometimes miracles
Nevermind, can't read on Friday morning it seems. They really should do that.Doesn't that tweet say he's not going down for a conditioning stint?

So they have decided to do this, I think it's a very good idea. Well done from the organization.
You absolutely called it. Well played.
Could be, I never expected him to make his intentions 100% clear in an article but I really hope it’s a smoke screen.I still think, regardless of what he's saying, he'll want to make his mark on the team with a splash trade at the deadline. A "WOWY" type trade (rational or not)
I also think with Cap limitations, LTIR, etc he'll know he only has one big shot. I'm thinking a big name.
I just can't see him, now being back in the league after a few years, just tinkering. I think Bowman will want to show his "value" to the org.
I could be wrong (just ask my wife) but it wouldn't surprise me to see a deadline Rantanen, Karlsson, shocking name happen. In my opinion he's been too quiet up till now, and will take a BIG shot at the deadline.
I don’t mind our defence either outside of maybe a depth defender (which they did bring up in the article).I'm honestly fine with our defence. One more depth defender is fine. Bowman didn't say anything about improving the front?
Lol what how does potentially paying two dman 9 million plus at the same time mcdavid needs a new contract work exactly? This one is right up there with "The Oilers will have the worst prospect pool in the NHL if they trade more prospects!!!1"
Who gives a shit

Regarding a forward at least, I really don’t think goaltending is on their radar AT ALL

Re: forwards, seems like they really want to beef up the bottom 6 with size. Jordan Greenway’s name was brought up. Though not by Bowman directly. They did mention it depends on where Nuge lined up. If they have him down the middle, they may look to add a wing. And vice versa
Probably cost Emberson and SavoieDobson would be a terrific get. Lou loves his grinder/mucker types (see him wanting to extend Nelson over keeping a stud young D) so I'd offer 1st + O'Reilly + to make it happen. Would instantly button up the right side for years to come.

Adding Rantanen and Dobson would look great, until you look at our goalies anywayWell first of all it's not the same time, McDavid doesn't need a new contract until after next season. The combination of a rapidly rising salary cap and significant dead weight coming off of the books would make it pretty easily workable.
There are multiple posts in this thread demonstrating ways the team could fit a 14M contract for Rantanen. 9M for Dobson wouldn't be a challenge and you could even consider just bridging him if it is.
A forward not playing for the Oilers and a defender who is fine but the definition of just a guy? Done easily.
Lebrun’s new article interviewing Bowman will surely have some people upset, he seems to be VERY content with running our back end as is, including Skinner/Pickard… can’t say I agree but they better be planning a big move up front then. Even that seems to be contingent on where Nuge plays..
As leaky as Stuart can be, Rantanen and Dobson would put the Oilers over the top. We would have the puck 80% of the gameAdding Rantanen and Dobson would look great, until you look at our goalies anyway
Stecher is a puck mover, and he can burn any team that underestimates him. I could see adding a tough Dman as an extra, but realistically would they even be as good as Desharnais was? And Desharnais was scratched when the opposition got difficult. Ultimately the modern NHL is about puck moving and skating deep in the playoffsFair points.
I am not really a fan of Stecher though...he is too small...gets pushed around on the cycle and net front.
I wouldnt want anything more than spot duty for him in the playoffs even Knoblauc decides to go with 7 D,
Hopefully Klingberg continues to improve enough to be a steady #4 dman. That would be huge.
Then the pairings are...
Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Klingberg
Emberson - Kulak
Im fine with that and then the team can focus on some functional heaviness in the bottom 6...preferably at center.
The secondary scoring is a major concern though...that needs to improve.
If your going to blow 20m on these guys while running with Skinner it makes no sense to me.As leaky as Stuart can be, Rantanen and Dobson would put the Oilers over the top. We would have the puck 80% of the game
I think he costs significantly more than Ekholm. Way younger, 70pt season under his belt, and while he doesn't have term, he is an RFA so you are still guaranteed to atleast get some picks if he leaves.
Ek was what, 1st+Schaefer? Give or take as there was also some lower picks and Barrie. I think you can add basically a 1st+2nd to that. I still do it though.
Lol our wingers have no speed. They hardly score. That's a major holeOilers don't have any real major holes outside of goalie. It's worth spending a little more and getting some luxury.
If we blow 20M on Rantanen and Dobson, we most likely can't afford Stuart extension which is a good thing. If your going to blow 20m on these guys while running with Skinner it makes no sense to me.
We have an old slow forward core that really lacks scoring outside of Mcdrai.
With Klingberg taking the #4 spot I don't know why we keep talking about adding defence. (we just need a number 7 LHD)
Haha, ya. But who is our goalie then?If we blow 20M on Rantanen and Dobson, we most likely can't afford Stuart extension which is a good thing.
Connor Ingram?Haha, ya. But who is our goalie then?
If your going to blow 20m on these guys while running with Skinner it makes no sense to me.
If you look at the price in isolation it is a lot, though I think 2 1st's plus maybe a b prospect is closer to reality. I don't think you would be talking about Savoie, O'Reilly or Akey as an add on. But he is an RFA with two more years of team control. Nothing would stop you from trading him in the off season to recoup much of the value. It's a bit of a risk but if the Oilers went deep and he had a good playoff you have a really valuable asset. You may get a better 1st and equivalent prospect for him at the draft. In the end he could be a cheaper rental than guys who are much less skilled. It probably starts with 2x1st and one of our best prospects
I probably pay it as Knob and Coffey could bring out the best in Dobson
Well we’ve seen other orgs win cups with “average” goalies but I’ve never seen the Oilers do it. The style we play begs for a goalie that can save your bacon.Well I'm not trying to add both, though maybe in theory you could. If Rantanen doesn't work out in Carolina and they're looking to recoup assets at the deadline I would be very interested in adding him as a pure rental.
The frustrating thing about the goaltending is I don't view the problem as expensive or difficult to fix. Just throw Utah St. Louis' 2nd for Vejmelka and I'd be good with it there.
I don't think trading Emberson would constitute "blowing up" the roster. Especially not for a legitimate number 2, 20+ minute a night defenseman.I think there is something to be said about not blowing up a roster.
It never works well when you make a ton of changes. Our Defence has been great this year. No need to trade Emberson.
If we are trading for Dobson, we shouldn't trade him. He's a cornerstone piece if we work with him. He has the potential to play above Bouchard. If you look at the price in isolation it is a lot, though I think 2 1st's plus maybe a b prospect is closer to reality. I'm not putting a lot of stock into that kind of interview. Holland was very open with the media, and seemed fine to tell them exactly what he was doing. The Jackson/Bowman regime seem to be very much the opposite- they've been running a VERY tight ship in terms of keeping information out of the media. How many actual rumours have we heard about players the Oilers are interested in? Whether it's Seravalli, Friedman, or Lebrun, it feels like every time the Oilers come up, it's more speculation along the lines of "I think a player like this would be a great fit in Edmonton", rather than an actual insider rumour.Lebrun’s new article interviewing Bowman will surely have some people upset, he seems to be VERY content with running our back end as is, including Skinner/Pickard… can’t say I agree but they better be planning a big move up front then.
