Listening to Stauffer before I had to turn it off when he started talking about Danielle Smith being the only politician who fights for Alberta- he mentioned Rantanen.

What he said was “he is throwing a curveball” he quoted the time 5:47- and then proceeded to say that last year when Carolina traded for Guentzal - they got burnt when he didn’t re-sign. Would Carolina trade Rantanen if they couldn’t re-sign him before the deadline. Obviously he is hinting at the possibility of Edmonton. Staples poured cold water on that idea saying Edmonton wouldn’t have the assets - Stauffer countered with a lot depends on the player.

Anyways- thought I’d throw this out there. A whole lot of nothing- but fun to dream about

That’d be wilddddd. All this time Knob was running McDrai so he could ready the world for Nugentanen.

I don't think they'd get away with that now.

From the CBA: "The Commissioner may take whatever steps he deems necessary to investigate the circumstances under which a Player is Loaned on a Conditioning Loan. If the Commissioner has reason to believe or determines that the Club has used the Conditioning Loan to evade Waivers, or otherwise Circumvent any provision of this Agreement, he may take such disciplinary action against the Club, as he deems appropriate."

I think it'd be pretty tough to argue that it wouldn't only be done to evade waivers.
They spoke about this on the Got Yer Back podcast. He can be sent down. They aren't trying to avoid waivers and easily have a case- guy missed a year of hockey and is still working his way back in shape. He'll be back up when the season resumes

It would be. It'll never happen. Bob likes to throw this stuff at times. You could give it a listen. It's on the segment with Staples today

Interesting to think about but has a team ever traded a top player a month after trading for him?

You'd have a really tough time with that arguement after he's already played NHL games.

Watching the CGY-COL game. Pretty nuts that COL has used 6 goalies this year in total.
I admire their aggression in addressing issues

But imo they are too aggressive. Lots of chaos there

For example I loved the Blackwood trade, but not the Blackwood signing.

Maybe they'll be vindicated about the Rantanen deal but that's almost reckless

You absolutely wouldn’t. The NHL would have no case since the player would have a) agreed to go down b) the player says he wants extra reps c) he doesn’t miss any NHL games. It’s also a 2 week break. It would be a non-issue and this isn’t cap circumvention or trying to get rid of a salary. It would be a non-issue.

Did Boob Stauffer say anything on Oilers Now of interest other than the Rantanen thing?
Something about a no -sexy name in defence. Honestly- when he starts talking about politics it angers me- not because of the party he supports (I’m a policy voter not party voter) but the fact he gets all his information wrong. He for sure is a Fox News viewer

Rantanen playing his way to a trade to the Oilers at the deadline

Aho and Svech are okay, but nowhere near close to the level of Mack.

And oddly enough, Carolina has a history of "big acquisitions" that either struggle to play with those two or don't stay long after being acquired. Vincent Trochek, Jake Guentzel, and now Rantanen. (Honorable mention to Pulju, whom the Caniacs were eager to welcome and then more eager to send away.)

Part of it is certainly the Canes being too cheap; but part of me wonders if it's something on the ice or in the room beyond just the dollar signs.

He just played 21 minutes in an NHL game. Safe to say he's in game shape.

The only thing a conditioning loan would do is evade waivers aka what's not allowed.

Did he say anything related to a top six winger (other than Rantanen?)

I wish our GM was so smart that he could not sign draisaitl and then trade him for lesser players.

A take that is aging like year-old milk already lmao. Necas 1+1 tonight, 7 points overall in his new home. Oh, and his speed has helped MacKinnon net 3A against Calgary to take back the scoring lead.

Meanwhile Rantanen has but two points in five games for Carolina.

It’s ALMOST like a management team that has won a Cup in recent memory knows what they’re doing.

A better thread to put this in...

I do not understand the idea that we need another D even if Klingberg works out. Emberson and Stecher are solid depth D, and Kulak can play in the top 4 if need be. Adding a D with term makes no sense to me. But yes, by the deadline things could change. Klingberg looks like his skills and skating are better than ever. By the deadline we might be talking about saving future cap space to re-sign him, not adding Murphy or Oleksiak to be overpaid on the 3rd pair

Also we are in a similar situation as Kane. He is our top nine addition. Again, we'll see by the deadline.

That's music to my ears that this is a prime year to add a goalie. I don't think Frank's comments put cold water on the idea. He says he doesn't know either way

Apparently he's having difficulty playing with a lefty C after all this time with the righty Nate. Sounds like an excuse.
