We're held back a bit by the fact that we did some stupid things last summer. Dumolin has played the right side before in Pittsburgh and is a 2 time Cup winner, he should be able to slot in here without much of a fuss.

Fabbri is just a roll of the dice. Arvidsson has not worked out here thus far, Fabbri is a younger player who has had some 20 goal pace seasons in the past. He's also apparently friends with McDavid, not that that makes a big difference but it's a nice bonus I guess.

Great trade for the Oilers lol, but unfortunately this isn't a Be a GM scenario on NHL 25. Dream outcome for us for the playoff push tbh.

How is that a great trade for the Oil? Even assuming Gibson works out (and I'll say I've come around on the idea of a retained Gibson if the salary works), they're giving up like 40 goals minimum off the playoff roster for a guy who has 8 this season, his career high is 18, and a defenceman who may or may not be an upgrade on what we already have.

Given the Oilers struggles with high end scoring, either they think Kane is going to come back healthy and contribute, or they need to use that money bring in a bonafide 25 goal guy to replace him for the playoff run.

Acquiring Kostin is a waste of assets.

Marchand is having the worst "fancy stats" year of his entire career this year (outside of his rookie year). I know he is still putting up points this year, but 25% of his points are PP points, and he wouldn't sniff the PP on the Oilers. His metrics are tanking, he is 36 years old, and he is relying on the PP for point production. I would be quite hesitant to give up anything of real worth for this version of Marchand. Not saying he can't help, but he isn't anything close to the player he was a few years ago.

I don't follow Boston closely (or at all), but it seems like he's been playing mostly on the second line with Lindholm and Coyle instead of the top line with Pastrnak. E. Lindholm is not a driver, so that puts a lot of weight on Marchand's shoulders. Also, with Hampus Lindholm being hurt, I would think he's been the ice with the Zadorov second pairing as well. The dip in his fancy stats seems to be at least partly attributable to Boston's dramatically reduced depth this season.

His PDO is .996, with an on-ice shooting percentage of only 7.76. He may not be a play driver, but it still seems like he's a decent bet to provide some offence next to Leon. I also like the stylistic fit there given how Leon likes to play.

Finally, he's drawn the second most penalties in the NHL this year, which this team desperately needs more of. Watching Vegas have to deal with E.Kane, Marchand AND Perry on the same team would be priceless. I think I'd give up a 2026 first to see him lick Pietrangelo in a scrum.

Evander Kane, I like the guy, but we have no idea what he's going to be when he comes back and he hasn't been a huge difference in the playoffs in a while now (probably since the LA series of 2023), and he's older and coming off a ton of injuries/rehab now.

Last year he had 4 playoff goals, and yes I realize he was injured but that could well be the case again, the year prior he had 3 playoff goals, the same total as Kostin.

Getting to go live in LA/Anaheim area is probably good for his family as his wife is from there, so I don't think they will mind.

Marchand is an upgrade yes! But you keep your cup window open for several years if get a younger impact forward. Getting Marchand Makes this team an ancient relic. Hey i get it, you want to inch and claw your way to the cup, i prefer them to do it in style.

I am not interested in moving Savoie for a rental either, but Point was ahead of him at the same age (40 pts in 68 NHL games vs. Savoie's 31 in 40 AHL games) no question.

I cant think of one player and thats a problem that is STILL affecting this team. I dont want to beat the Holloway horse anymore (he would have been a solid 2nd line player) but how is it that this team has such a problem with top 6 wingers? They pissed away Holloway and now they are in the same boat they have been in for the last few years.
Absolutely amazing how this just continues on year after year. Doesnt seem to matter who the GM is.

That for me is a large part of what makes the Marchand rumors so intriguing.

This team badly needs a a legit top 6 player. A healthy/playoff ready Kane will help as well but I dont think we can rely on that.

Scoring goals isn’t all Kane brings though. A healthy well rested Kane could be exactly what this bunch needs. I can’t wait for his return, some grit and determination is sorely lacking throughout this group.

I just made this point in another thread, but in my opinion a huge reason for this is that guys don't get PP time here, and their minutes tend to go down as well.

Take Marchand. He's got 4 PP goals and 11 PP points this year. He'll get 0 here, so now his stat line is 55 gp 15 g 31 p. He's also playing 19 minutes a game in Boston, that probably goes down to 15-16 here.

He'd still be an improvement on what we currently have, but when you're taking away so many offensive minutes from these guys, it's no wonder that the numbers look extremely underwhelming here.

It really shouldn't be this difficult to find scoring wingers but apart from Hyman and Kane his first year almost everyone we've brought in over the past number of years has disappointed.

The world where he's recovering from two major surgeries and is a player who needs to be physical to be effective. It's like people who were expecting Klingberg to walk onto the roster and be a difference maker- it takes time for guys to get up to speed... and sometimes they never do. Maybe by Round 2 Kane is an everyday player who bumps one of those three, but we can't take for granted he will be.

Worth noting that we’ve been the best overall team in the league the last 3 years. Goaltending cost us against Vegas, and we were one shot away last year. This team has holes but shoring up scoring, the 2nd pair , and goaltending.

To those that say it can’t be done, in 2006 we got Spacek, Roloson, and Samsonov at the deadline, who were all huge, huge adds. Just 2 years ago Toronto went and got ROR, Noel Acciari, Jake McCabe, Luke Schenn, and Sam Lafferrty- all without giving up much. This team is good. Shire up its holes and multiple cups are possible.

The idea of Marchard in an Oilers sweater is just bonkers to me. If the price seems fair I'd certainly be willing. I'd still rather try and get Tuch though tbh. He'd be an absolute monster in our top 6 forwards.

It's exactly because of his injuries that makes me wonder how effective he'll be. He really hasn't been healthy the past couple years. He's had surgery but it's not going to magically transform him into the player he was when we first acquired him.

It's going to take him some time to get back into form because he hasn't played in so long.
