Rantanen might have to settle for league minimum next year with how he’s playing in Carolina.
I was called an idiot, reported, and chastised for saying it before and after the trade. He's a product of Mackinnon and Makar these days. No wonder they didn't want to pay him 12+, nevermind the 14 he is apparently asking for. That team was also too top heavy, so getting Necas+Drury+picks for an overrated player is a good deal for them imo.

lol. You’re twisting things into pretzels. I’m not even talking about Nuge or McDavid. Not sure how that entered the discussion.

Enjoy the game Burnt.
I enjoyed the game thanks. I'll simplify it for you.

You said Bouchard not covering Ekholm's PK mins when he was out sick reflected poorly on Bouchard's game.

RNH was also out sick earlier this season and neither McDavid nor Draisaitl covered his PK mins.

Does this reflect poorly on McDavid and Draisaitl's games?

If not? Why the double standard?

I mean they do need another good forward.

That said, literally all teams do this with their best players, the Oilers just have another level of beat players
The Oilers' inability to find scoring wingers is deeply frustrating.

That they keep stacking the top line is also frustrating because McDavid and Draisatl are quite poor in their own end when they're together.

For sure, but I think it's something different than just concern they don't score. I think knoblauch is using this pre-break stretch to try them out and other combos. Honestly to see how it will go if they have to use them in the playoffs or down the stretch because of injuries or performance.

That all said, go get an impact forward.

I was looking at WOWY GF% numbers and do you know what's wild

McDavid actually has a sub 50% GF% without Draisaitl on his line.

Together they have a 65.8 GF%
McDavid without Drai has a 46.9 GF%
Drai without McDavid has a 55.0 GF%

the RNH - McDavid - Hyman trio has a GF% of 57.1, so it's still working, but pretty much every other experiment has failed dragging down his GF%, with the exception being Podz in a small 50-ish min sample size.

HfOil would have burned down the oilers office and murdered them all in the street if we had the audacity to keep Talbot or Dubnyk or any of the good goalies we've ever had in the HF era.
both went on to have solid careers, not sure if HFBoards is the best on predicting goaltending success either. Koskinen was not good that season either and somehow landed a multi-year contract at fairly big money. I'd love Talbot back on this team today.

Talbot should have been a Vezina nominee that year, we won so many tight games because of him and he played a ton of games, in the playoffs he was our best player.
He was great, probably the best regular season, in relation to the other goalies in the league, since Fuhr. Cujo was great, and amazing in the playoffs, but at no time here, was he in the Vezina conversation.

What assets do you give up for Marchand though?

Boston would want a haul.

Not sure we trade away next years 1st ++ for him.
Next years 1st round pick is on the table. Stauffer and Friedman hinted at it quite a bit on Oilers Now.

Question is, who would we want to give it for?

A lot of posters talk up the Oilers high powered offense, but outside of the five 1st unit PP players the highest point producing player is Ekholm with 23 points... Highest forward is Brown with 21 points in 53 games. Absolutely no depth.

On one hand, you could do a lot worse than Marchand, even if he will be 37 in May.

On the other hand spending a 1st round pick for a rental isn't going to be enough to get him. We would be emptying the coffers to go all in.

I'd rather try and get someone with term even if they aren't on the same level as Marchand.

Yeah true. That’s why I hope we actually try for Dylan Cozens or Alex Tuch

I'd rather pick up Tuch, cheaper, kills penalties, and has been more consistent then Cozens. Cozens potential has value but for him to succed he'd need top six minutes, with a Healthy Kane and Savoie next year I don't think there will be that opportunity for him. Where as Tuch could play on the third line and at 4.75 thats a lot more of a digestible cap hit.

Yes the cap will go up, but the Oilers will need to fit McDavid's, Draisaitls, and Bouchards extensions in and pay more for goaltending whether its Skinner or someone else very soon. And next season is also Ekholm's last year of his current deal, to find an equivalent will cost more that his current six million.

The 1st round pick they were alluding to multiple times throughout that hit, including the very last thing Friedman said RE: Drew O'Connor, was the NYR 1st round pick acquired by Pittsburgh from Vancouver.

I seen a bunch if Marcus Petersson before, he has looked great in his 2 games for Vancouver. Wish we had gone after him

Caught part of the Anaheim game randomly tonight after the Oil game ended. Not gonna lie Gibson looked really steady and calm in net. No caught out of position moments, never out of it on east west passes, rebound control was good. At 50% retained I'd gladly bring him in as a 1A to Skinner as 1B.

I would pick him up from the airport for 50% retained lol.
