Realistically #1 deadline target should be winger who can play in the top 6. Kane will have missed a good part of the year and it will take time for him to get up to speed, if he does play this year, which is at least in question.

#2 is the right hand faceoff center for own zone starts and PK in the playoffs. Henrique doesn't really fit the bill and trusting a rookie in a critical role in the playoffs is fraught with peril.

I'd also like to see either a #2RHD, though the cost is likely prohibitive with our first rounders spoken for and the prospect closet cleaned out and restocked by Jeff Jackson. Maybe a #7 who's more of an own zone guy in the event our deny/corsi philosophy comes back to bite us for playoff hockey.

One thing about goalie is that the Oiler can call up Rodrigue for the postseason without fear of a waiver claim until the fall, so there's your extra backup in case Skinner has a confidence crisis.

Juuse Saros is 5-11 in the playoffs and has never won a playoff series. For a guy with alot of hype there's not really an amazing track record of success.

😬

To be fair, that’s a guy that you could say the defense a lot of Skinner fans apply, in that the team can’t score enough, is actually true.

The Predators offense sucks in the regular season and is even worse in the playoffs

I think Saros would do great here

Oilers nation has become almost unwatchable. They won't stop glazing and defending Skinner. Meanwhile this is all bouchards fault again despite being on the ice for 1GA and the the ice for 3 of them.
OilersNation has been horrible for a few years now, ever since they sold out and took the gambling money and platformed Spector. They're just another group of shills that just say whatever they're told to now.

He's never played behind a team this good.

That our front office couldn't even close a deal for a third liner with 6 goals should worry everybody. Stan is consistently getting outmaneuvered for anyone other than waiver claims and players rehabbing from major surgery. I also question too why this player was a target- it addresses no needs.
Yeah, but that's because you don't understand how any of this works. You're just tossing pasta at the wall and divining a result from what stays stuck. So again, you are utterly clueless.

Perry, Skinner, Arvidsson are not great top 6 options.

You are proving my point.
Skinner has been a top 6 player all his career and is currently 2nd in goals per 60 on the team. Arvy has been a top 6 performer his whole career. Perry has 10 goals playing minimal time. You can put Henrique up there as well, or even Kapanen. Point is- the coach refuses to see what he has

I think people forgot the 2nd season Talbot had with the Oilers.
.919% with 42 wins and 7 Shutouts.

Stuart Skinner has 7 Shutouts his entire career LOL.

Yeah, but that's because you don't understand how any of this works.

Someone should tell Sakic/MacFarland, Tulsky, Nill, Rutherford/Allvin and McCrimmon that. They all seem to be able to make things happen while Bowman sits on the sidelines. It really does smell like the GM fraternity wants nothing to do with him. Not sure I blame them either.

Tossing things at the wall hoping they work is actually a great metaphor for what Stan's done so far. Meanwhile we still need the same proven top 4 D, G, and F we needed months ago.

Again, no, but hey why are you even here? They're one of the best team in the entire league with these dramatic flaws you've dreamed up. I think you just have inferiority complex about the team, and can't deal with them being excellent.

Seems like a you problem. f*** Stan, but not for your nonsense.

Sakic/McFarland couldn’t sign their soon to be FA superstar. Thank god they were in charge of the Oiler’s Draisaitl file.

And then Rutherford was on air last week telling everyone who would listen that he was going to lose the JT MIller trade. And then he proceeds to.

But wait..he wasn’t done, he then doubles down by taking the one useful asset he received and flipped an unprotected first round pick into Marcus Peterson. Wow.

Ya, I’m ok with Stan not being anything like those asshats.

I hope that's what it is. It's just maddening when it feels like the team and all the media aren't really telling it like it is, and are playing this meta game of supporting the team, because too much pressure will make a player worse, and is seen as a downside of working in a market like Edmonton. I do sometimes wonder if I'm wrong because this conspiracy stuff is usually not right

Personally I think pulling punches in the media is wrong. Skinner (and any player) should just tune out all outside information and focus on their game, and on off time do fun things that don't involve reading up on what people are saying online and in the media.

I think the media avoids ripping the goalies because it is perceived as an excuse similar to bad officiating. Just blaming the goalie is seen as "letting everyone else off the hook."

The Skinner hate is way over the top IMO, but there are games where he was demonstrably at fault for the loss, but nobody in the media is willing to just call a spade a spade.

You are talking to a guy who was hyping the Rantanen / Miller trades just because the GMs did something.

Lots of home runs to pick from from that crop of GMs for sure. Where to even start?

- Logan Thompson tossed for 3rd rounders so they could sign Iilya Samsonov

- Panic traded a 24 year old 6'5 goalie with a lot of potential for a shitty backup in Wedgewood

- Panic traded a superstar winger for a shittier winger because they don't think he can make more than another player on the team

- Traded a 2nd + roster player for a career backup goalie then immediately signed him to a big extension before his play nose dived

- "Upgraded" and already poor defence with Cody Ceci

- Traded away the team Captain (Horvat) so they could keep malcontent (Miller) only to have Miller blow up the room again forcing them to deal him for peanuts

- Went ahead and flipped the 1st they got in the deal for a soon to be UFA d man (this as a non-playoff team)

- Decided that Desharnais at $2x2 and Forbort was a smart way to "upgrade" the defence

- Signed average Hronek to a massive deal after an outlier year driven by Hughes

Etc, etc, etc.

Gee, sure wish we could make moves like these.

It kind of sucks because it's a great group of guys when the team is winning. The after dark crew is definitely worse than the Everyday (noon crew). Tyler can be great, I usually like a lot of his content. However, he also forgets that hes talking to fans that want to see big moves. Shooting people down and calling them stupid for wanting Saros or Vejmelka doesn't exactly sit well. Not that its likely but this is entertainment for people and we shouldn't yuck someone's yum. I can see why fans would call him arrogant and annoying but I dont mind him.

On the flip side, I don't understand why Skinner continues to be "good enough" while fans crap on Bouchard. Tyler has supported Bouchard many times but unfortunately there are a lot of "eye test" guys who don't really understand that its not "eye test" or "statistics". Rather, statistics support what the eye test is seeing and removes the bias.

Some fans just want to cheer for their guys and aren't actually interested in talking about improving the team if it means taking someone off the roster. Thats just not how the NHL works (especially with the salary cap) and you always have to give to get.

Blackwoods play didn’t nose dive but I get your point.

But, but, they’re doing something!! That’s all that matters. ;)

Apparently Soucy is on the block out in Vancouver according to Friedman

Feels like just yesterday that Nuck fans were crowing about how amazing their oversized defense was going to be.

I can see Dallas panicking and picking him up. Heiskanen is out until at the least the playoffs

This is what's wild to me, that a lot of these media guys endlessly crap on Bouchard with the Got Yer Back crew who I respect being some of the worst offenders of that, all 3 of them, yet Skinner hardly ever gets mention as a problem. As recently as the Toronto game, large segment on Bouchard mistakes in that game with barely a mention of Skinner although there was a small segment talking about him needing to make a few more saves in that game.

I'm saying this as somebody that generally thinks that Skinner gets too much hate around here. Bouchard, even in a "down" year, is a way better defenseman than Skinner is a goalie. While Bouchard's brainfart meter has been switched on more often this season, he still brings way more good than bad to the table yet there's this insane focus on his mistakes and not enough on what he does well which is a lot.
