Guyzzz the trade deadline isn’t for another month!!! Can’t expect Bowman to just, like, trade good assets for good players. Only like six of those have happened since December.

If you pause for a second to think about how the cap accumulates (per game) and how the cap is spent (per game)

and then you reflect on what would be the biggest barrier to getting a Gibson… hint: it’s not the required return or the competition for his services….

And then you think and reflect upon why most trades actually do happen at the last minute (last ditch effort to improve return and last opportunity to maximize cap)

And you find yourself still confused and therefore critical…

Well then yer jst a dummie

They really should have just given DeAngelo a contract he still looks like an nhler and has been playing big minutes for them.

Nope, better to sign the guy who is skating on two hips held together with toothpicks and duct tape while he tries to find his game again. We have huge problems, but Bowman has no issue wasting time and cap space letting some reclamation project learn how to play hockey again.

This is a lot of words to say “I haven’t looked at our current cap and think Bowman is super awesome despite all the evidence to the contrary”. Well, I hope you liked tonight, because that is what you are asking for more of.

Oilers nation has become almost unwatchable. They won't stop glazing and defending Skinner. Meanwhile this is all bouchards fault again despite being on the ice for 1GA and the the ice for 3 of them.

I know our cap situation better than most… that’s why I was fine with letting our RFA go so that we’d have the space for at least one huge upgrade using accrued cap… you can search it dating back to July last year… actually the year prior too (but they didn’t do it)… this year they did.

If they don’t spend it, I agree they are idiots… if they spend it all now it would be one upgrade (not two) and if you don’t get that or understand why… meh…. Not worth debating.

So realistically what goalies could be available that would be a definite upgrade on Skinner.

I’m watching this Calgary and Detroit game and convincing myself Talbot would be a good target and I blame Skinner for that.

Management have a pretty good size of data to show Skinner sucks against top 10 teams. I bet a case of 🍻 that he get trade or else this team is done for in the playoffs.

They won't do shit.

Not doing shit in net and maintaining a smug air of superiority on the outside is more important than actually building a proper team.

Because apparently one time we spent on Jack Campbell, so now spending anything on goaltending is by some logic not needed.

It’s because Dustin Schwartz is a terrible scout.

Ken Holland even played the freaking position. The management here is woefully incompetent.

Even Kevin Lowe was pretty good at finding decent d-men in his time here, how is it no one in this org can find a suitable starter in almost 10 years of trying? Talbot was a favor from Sather too, lol.

I do believe Bowman and Jackson know Skinner isn’t it but I also think they’re going to do their best to keep any pursuit of a goalie as quiet as possible to ensure Skinner’s confidence isn’t completely shot.

Even if it’s not the first round, it’s pretty clear by this point that winning a Cup with him as the starter is challenge level: impossible
If they somehow win the Pacific and they play Colorado, LA or Calgary as their WC opponent with Skinner as the starter, I think they’d lose to the Avs, LA is a toss up, Calgary they should beat in 5, maybe 6 but Wolf is already looking like the real deal and could stretch it to 7 especially if Skinner gifts them a win or two (which he will).

In the McDavid/Drai timeline, the best goalies they have had were Talbot (two good seasons) and a miled-out Mike Smith mostly in Covid shortened seasons during his tenure. So about 225 regular season games of having a competent goalie, out of around 700 career games for McDavid and 775 for Draisaitl.

I doubt it. No one in the front office is that bright.

Even if they realized this, they are stupid in general, so now we have a situation for example where they spent 10 million dollars on forwards in the summer who don't score, so the logic then is going to become "well shucks! We have to spend our trade capital on more forwards, forget goaltending" but the situation is entirely of their own making.
