It was not exactly a banner year on the FA side. Its perfectly fair to be critical of how the signings have played but aside rom perhaps keeping Holloway and Foegele who would have realistically been your target.
at this point, with the results that 53 and 33 have had so far, cap space would have been WAY more valuable than either signing.

I think bashing Vancouver is being short sighted in their trades. MIller had to go. The problem became too public and it was a massive distraction. IF you look at what they did, they also sent out some very bad money and did not take much money back in comparison. I think they save 4 mill in cap space or something. All indications are that the asking price for the D they got was always a first. But now it looks like Brook Broeser may now be traded. He is a soon to be UFA and it sounds like he wants to head stateside. Now there is a trade vancouver will lose

I 100% agree with this. The offseason moves up front, UFA wise, have not worked out to this point.

Rico, at least, is playing a role, 3C, PK, that being said, there is no way he would be happy with his offensive production so far this year.

As for J Skinner, sure, he hasn't gotten a lot of opportunity, but either Knob, 97, 29 - some combination of 2 or all 3 of these guys do not trust J Skinner and do not want him in the top 6 on this team, so why did they sign this guy and not even talk to these 3? Horrible management.

Arvidsson? yikes, 4 million per? for this? the guy falls down all the time, he doesn't score or produce, he gets tossed around, and he's not a pest or anything. 2 years!?!?!?! So far, this has been the worst move that this team made this summer.
I’m more disappointed in Arvidsson than I am with Skinner. He’s been getting prime minutes next to Draisaitl and has done virtually nothing while Skinner has been one of our top 5x5 scorers while playing from the 4th line.

That's the vibe I get as well, particularly with Kane's health still fairly uncertain. Bowman and Jackson seem to keep their cards fairly close to their chest, none of the moves they've made the last while have really been forecasted by anyone. If we do manage to do something big, it wouldn't surprise me if it's a name that no one has been talking about.
You would have to think they’d want to give Skinner another shot at the top 6 before wasting assets to try to find that scorer, no?

Someone posted earlier that Skinner is 2nd on the team in goals/60

sure, I agree, based on opportunity given, Arvidsson has been the bigger bust for sure. He's also got a 2nd year on his deal, and makes 4 million, not 3. So far, he's been a really bad signing. Not sure, why he never sits, unless, he's hurt, which he is, on a pretty regular basis. He also never seems to get pushed down the line up. Arvidsson has NOT been good.

J Skinner, hasn't even been good enough in practice or preseason to get the coach to trust him enough, or make an impression on 29 or 97 that he is someone they want on their wing, so that's a whole other issue to deal with.

Basically looks like a complete waste of 7 million per season.

Kapanen came here off waivers and has outplayed and performed both of them.

53 has been the second most efficient goal scorer on the team
but, a combination of his poor defensive play/giveways/lack of trust from his coach and from the team's top 2 Cs (29 and 97) has prevented him from a regular spot in the line up, a team worst minus 7 rating, and not even a sniff of the top 6 on either 29's or 97's wing. That's more of a concern than his goal scoring efficiency.

How about being involved in any deal of substance? Nah, too hard for Stan.
He's added Klingberg and Kapanen since puck drop in October. Added multiple pieces to the roster in Bakersfield, all while not impacting the immediate roster or taking up limited cap space.

The 'substance' deals you speak of required cap space and cost assets. Stop whining.

Lol wtf??? Everyone on this board wanted petterson amd now that he goes to a rival he is gonna struggle on the west ??? Lolol
Some people are very bias. If he comes here everybody would post how much they love him.

I'm sure the Oilers sniffed around this, but have their eyes set on something else.

Those are not impactful moves.

Right, can’t afford a teenager or two who won’t play for us until 2027 at the earliest. Like who even needs a Cup?

Dallas used their best trade chip early for Grankund and Ceci??? They have so much deadline cap space to work with and could have gotten something much better if they waited.
Maybe there won't be a ton of sellers though? I'm not saying there won't be, but maybe.

Also what a bad trade for the Stars. They liked Tanev so much they thought they would get a really crappy version lmao

From my viewings the three most impactful Canucks in that Edmonton series were Silovs, Miller and Zadorov. Without any of those players, we promptly dispose of them in five games. None of them are left on this year's roster.

I don't know how the Marcus Pettersson negotiations will unfold, but it's difficult to see them getting him signed for anything less than the contract they probably should have given to Zadorov this summer.

Vancouver has now moved on from both skaters and Silovs is sporting an 0.898 in Abbotsford this season. Life comes at you fast.

We really buckled both the flames and the nucks so hard that their team imploded the next year.

The Schadenfreude.

I love this team.

other than J Skinner, the other guys are all playing well defensively for the most part. J Skinner even played well defensively against the Wings. But, the others, well playing well defensively aren' t doing much of anything on the offensive side. THEY NEED MORE from these guys, if they want to win a Cup, simple as that. The production that they have gotten will NOT be enough to win in the playoffs imo.
Hey I've been saying this for a while it's why a major upgrade at forward is most important in my mind. Someone significant like O'Reilly, Rakell, Tuch or Nelson would really do a lot

Teams are making moves now, but I think the Oilers are going to be deadline movers. I am positive they're going to take a massive swing, but whether do it on defense or for a forward will depend on Klingberg's progression. They gotta give him some time to see what they have there.
I hope we take a swing we have the cap space! If we just add a 4c that will be pretty lame deadline.

FWIW first year GM's typically don't make big moves.

Even if you're taking that angle - Were they not short sighted in letting the situation become so toxic they traded a multi time 100 point power forward for a third line C a hit away from retiring, someone no one has ever heard of, and a mid to late first round pick?
