Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

While I would have been down for the Saad experiment, our 2 biggest needs up front are physicality and elite finishing. He doesn't check either of those boxes.
I think it's find, they had $2M of regular cap space before signing him, so it shrinks that for them (I'm sure they'll find a way around) but that's good.

You know I'd be more concerned for Ottawa. The jets owner is the richest person in Canada, they will be fine.
Thompson has always said that he is not in this to lose money. The Jets have been able to spend to the cap recently but I would not expect that to happen just because Thompson is part of the ownership group. I don't think that they will leave but I suspect that they could have an internal budget.

Owners could be losing money now but once they sell the team, they make more money back?

That’s assuming the US dollar stays the same. With Trump’s trade wars with everyone and his slashing of fundamental jobs in the civil service will lead to US isolation as trading relations build across the rest of the world.
The only Canadian teams for which I think the higher cap ceilings may be an issue are Ottawa and Winnipeg with Calgary a possibility because of the ownership's potential unwillingness to spend. Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton and Toronto will.

I realize this. And it is one of the reasons why I don't think they will leave. But the Jets have had an internal budget before with this ownership group. They may well in the future. Thompson is not the primary owner and has never been willing to simply regardless. The guy calling the shots is Mark Chipman. Now if the Jets are competing at the top of the heap I suspect that they will spend. But I am not sure that they will simply open up the wallets.

In the end, Saad was a luxury that we didn't need. We need a Top 4 Dman and/or upgrade in net. Our forward depth is actually doing pretty good. Maybe more toughness, but that's about it.
I think Klingberg will work and I am pretty sure a lot of people are overrating us needing a goalie.

We need a top six forward. Podkolzin is nowhere close and neither is Arvidsson

So with this crazy cap increase you'd have to think they Oilers might be more interested in trading prospects for top 6 winger or top 4 D with term. Wonder what might be available on some internal cap teams.

Gotta think Savoie+1st gets you a pretty good player in return.
Give Savoie a chance to play in the lineup first. Then, decide on what to do with him

Dude you are dead wrong. The NHL PA is always pushing for players to take high salaries and avoid playing for heavy discounts.
If the PA pushes stars to take more money all that means is there is less left for all the rest of their members. When star players take bigger contracts they are directly taking that money out of the pockets of their fellow PA members.

There’s no benefit to the PA pushing stars to take more money since it doesn’t increase the cap dollars available, by doing so they are just hurting more of their members. Why would they want to do that?

I believe that's a myth more than anything. Lots of good players take discount all the time. Others take big payday cause that's what they want
They pushed pretty hard with Crosby and If let's say Mcdavid wanted to sign for 5.5 they would not allow it. It would be shut down.

Now I don't think any player would take such a steep discount.....

I guess I'm solely talking in the event that Mcdavid wanted to sign for 5.5 they would shut it down. I know the PA is heavily against this. Why? I'm not sure. I remember hearing that a few contracts in the summer of 2021 were declined on this bases.

Maybe somebody else can jump in as to why.

I’m not comfortable with the goaltending but holy shit does Drai need a decent winger. Everything I hear about Podz “digs pucks out, plays defence, good forechecker” is the definition of a third liner/4th liner and not of someone who rides shotgun with the best player in the world

Team spent 7 million dollars on the summer to get wingers for Draisaitl and let themselves get handcuffed into offersheets because of it (not to mention another rich 3 mill for an under performing Adam Henrique).

They have some serious questions to answer for even if the team is talented and structured enough to keep piling up regular season wins.

This is really poor management.

Obligatory post about Jeff Skinner being #2 after Zach Hyman for goals/60 among our wingers.

Top 6 scoring winger might be our biggest need at the moment.

The 2nd line wings stick out like a sore thumb.
