Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | With Klingberg in the Mix Who Are Our 7D After the Deadline?

He's cooked or he's not being utilized properly? How many times we've seen that happen with the Oilers

With that said, I prefer to have Saad over him and the extra cap space if we can move him
Well it's obvious he's not being used properly, but that said he just doesn't look good out there. He's no longer the player he once was.

We all know the game changes in the playoffs and he just doens't have it.

Maybe a line of Skinner, Rico, Hyman would work.

Lets see how the team fares with McDavid, Draisaitl and Nuge playing without each other. Going back to 2022-23:

McDavid without Draisaitl and Nuge:

2.96GF/60 3.1GA/60 in 910 minutes

Draisaitl without McDavid and Nuge

2.66 GF/60 2.48 GA/60 in 1692 minutes

Nuge without McDavid andDraisaitl

2.62 GF/60 2.41 GA/60 in 1170 minutes

And for further comparison the rest of the team without the three:

2.05GF/60 1.94 GA/60 in 3826 minutes

Does this support or negate your claim? I'll leave it up to you to decide.

Then add this in: In roughly 1200 minutes that Leon and McDavid played together 5 vs 5 with Nuge centering the second line the team had 4.68 GF/60 vs 2.82 GA/60.

It seems as though the inclusion of McDavid and Draisaitl paired with Nuge would artificially inflate those numbers rather than just McDavid with Nuge and Draisaitl with Nuge. Do we have the numbers of Draisaitl with Nuge (sans McDavid)?

Is +0.21 goal share good when he's without McDrai?

I'm not really sure what to make of those numbers.

Glad that we're able to help the Blues cap crunch next year by potentially taking Saad off their hands. Hopefully this gives them enough cap space to offer sheet someone else this summer.

Contract is terminated regardless of which team offers him the new contract this year, no?

That’s surprising

Honestly wouldn't shock me if he didn't end up here. I think some have assumed it's automatic with the Bowman connection, but he may feel he has a better chance to make more coin next year with a spot on a weaker team like one of those

Again, he already has two Cup rings, so doesn't need to go to a contender

lol that’s surprising. So he gave up money to make money?

He's in the dog house over in St Louis, could be he feels he could make more than what he gave up

Unless he's stupid and thinks any of them are favourites to win the Cup

I’ll be honest lol I think we still need a top six winger. I like Podkolzin but he doesn’t have over 10 goals playing with Leon. Neither does Arvidsson. Skinner doesn’t have over 10. Perry is a 4th liner. Janmark has 2 goals.

I think we need one

I do too. I don't think Saad is one, though. I'd still like to see the coach give Skinner a bit more rope / opportunity, especially against bubble / non-playoff teams

I’m not a Skinner hater but, in the playoffs after what we saw last year, a player like Skinner would get skinned to bits by teams like Vegas.

Your claim was that we have seen over the last few years that there is evidence that Nuge cannot drive his own line. That means you need to look at how the team does when he is on but neither of the other two are. What these numbers show is that when Nuge is on a line away from both McDavid and Draisaitl the team's offensive output is similar to when Draisaitl is on without the other two. Moreover, over the last but their defensive numbers have been better with Nuge alone than Draisaitl alone.

Now this does not mean Nuge >= Draisaitl. There are lots of contextual aspects to consider. But what it shows is that if the team wants to play Leon and McDavid together, where statistically the team has dominated in that scenario, then the line center by Nuge has more than held its own. That is precisely what matters. And it also suggests that your original claim is not really consistent with what has actually happened on the ice.

Why does this matter? Despite the fact that many here insist that Draisaitl and McDavid together is bad, the reality is that when they play on the same line the Oilers tend to dominate. Now if that domination was offset by the second line getting caved it would be a problem. But in fact, that second line actually on average outscores the opposition despite the too common perception that Nuge can't handle the role. Interestingly enough, all of his coaches have felt he could.

I am not advocating that they all play on separate lines or together. I have always said that the flexibility to play either way given the circumstances is very valuable.

You can see all combinations of the three here:

Why would he come here? We have Skinner often in the press box and Kane still on the way. We are wayyyy overloaded at LW, and at wing in general

Saad can join a contender that has an actual spot for him. Any rumor that had him an Oiler was clickbait to the extreme
