Good point, he's kind of the forgotten man since he has yet to play for us. I wonder if he's even practicing with us?
On the ice with Klingberg this week, not team practice. Rehabbing still I'm sure.

Klingberg, Stecher, and Regula all have some experience playing on the left side. But yeah, a depth LHD, whom you can have live in the PB without complaining would round out the defence nicely.

I'd love to bring in a steady #5LD. Especially because Kulak can also play with Nurse when needed. I truly don't think we need to go big game hunting on the back end.
My wish list is:
A goalie to challenge stu.
A physical middle 6 forward - We need more jam for the playoffs, especially if Kane doesn't return
A high end scorer - I wanted Toffoli badly as a rental and I'm still convinced we would have won the cup if we had one more legit scoring threat.

He absolutely would be, but (once he get's up to speed) as an option to spell Bouchard when he's having struggles will certainly help over imo.
I love the idea of Seth Jones... even at 6.5 per year. Should be able to afford it next year as cap goes up as well.
Very few players ever look like their six year old version, let alone ones who undergo a major surgery. The most realistic hope for Klingberg is that he becomes a #6 who can QB PP2. Why we spent so much time, effort and possibly money pursuing that is questionable to me when the far greater need is a defensive defender who can play top four.
Not all surgeries are the same. He had hip pain most of his career and the surgery fixed that.
Not saying he will be a top 4 but just saying, some surgeries you come out better from.
He would Never come here. His family hates Edmonton.

I wonder if the Caps would have any interest in Skinner as depth winger/scoring. They seem to have space for him. Plus they have a couple guys that might be worth bringing back to offset things.

The Oilers get a winger for (probably) next year and some more LTIR space with Milano (it works because Skinner costs more on the cap), Yes the Oilers take on $912,500 on cap buried, but improves the depth, another guy ahead of Josh Brown.

Skinner is a significant problem right now, but if he can build on last night's game, there may be hope yet. He has to change his game to adapt to the team. He can't be the guy who controls the puck all the time if he wants it to work in the top 6, but maybe he's starting to figure it out. If Skinner gets back to form, the Oilers could have themselves their own version of 2006 Sergei Samsonov already in their room.
I'd agree with you usually but this is a player who is only 31. He's not on his last legs like a Corey Perry or Patrick Kane. I have hope in him to be a top 4. I'm willing to bet.
But we all know his first few games won't be great since it'll be his first time back after a year

That’s not how LTIR works. The Oilers wouldn’t gain any more space. I thought the same thing last year and texted into Gregor who corrected me
We spent $1.75M in cap on this player, plus directed the time and effort our pro scouting, management, and presumably medical staff for... no clear high upside. It's a total waste of resources if the player ends up only a bottom pairing defender.

It is (or how I understand it), Bear and Milano are $2.8 on the cap, Skinner is $3M on the cap, the Oilers can add Milano then immediate put him on LTIR.
This is the worst take I have EVER heard on signing a free player. Even if he does nothing and we waive him, there is like... zero risk. On the other hand, if he emerges as a solid puck moving #5/6, it is a win. If he ends up being even more - it is a freaking steal.
You are delusional.
But we can't fully bury $1.75M. There are also many other options for bottom-pairing puck movers who aren't just coming off a major surgery. This is looking to be more "smartest guy in the room" stuff when more obvious (and lower risk) options exist but Bowman, like Holland and Chiarelli before him, has to off the board unnecessarily.
