I'd be pretty pumped for Gibson. I also like him as a realistic option. The Ducks have Dostal as their goalie of the future. They like Gibson a lot, but part of that is doing what's right for the person. Does Gibson want to retire just as the Ducks get good? It seems the nicest thing they could do is to trade him, and even facilitate a trade with some retention.
Gibson hasn't played a playoff game in almost 7 years...not sure what makes him so great of an option
especially with the cap space needed and the assets required to get him

It's better to have the best goalie in the world shitting the bed than the worst shitting the bed. Skinner shat the bed how many series? But McDrai willed us to a win
he was bad in like 4 four games (Game 2 against LA...Games 1-3 against the Nucks)
Hellebuyck was awful in all 5 games against the Avs last year....and awful in all 5 Games against Vegas the year before

Hellebuyck is essentially the backbone of Winnipeg for years. Sure he might have 2 bad series. No one will look at him as the problem or do they say they need goaltending.

It's the opposite with Skinner. Goaltending has been our biggest achilles.
Skinner was also bad in the first 3 games in the Florida series. He also wasn't good in last year series against LA and Vegas.

From whom? We did things a certain way so we'd end up with a ton of cap space at the deadline. And it's clear we need a better goalie
I mean ill update what I know, but as of now it seems like no goalie.

If you're 'hearing' that, I'd stop listening to those people.
Those people have correctly called a lot of stuff. I hope we add I really do.

doesn't change the fact even the best have to prove they can win games when it counts

not as bad as the Oilers offense, 2 goals in 3 games in Florida is why we lost the Cup

Stuart sucking at the start of the season and the start of the playoffs burn out the Oilers. This is why a goalie like Hellebuyck would be useful. The players don't have to go all out every single games and save their bodies for the playoffs. McDavid in the season, more than ever looks like he's been talking to Crosby and just saving it for the playoffs. But he can't because our goalies continue to have bad games or bad start early in the games.

well of course Hellebuyck...but he's an example of "great goalie isn't equal great playoff success"

on that note, which team would you rather have...the Oilers with McDavid and Skinner, or the Jets with Scheifele and Hellebuyck?
Yeah Goaltending is far from a guarantee. Last year Saros didn't get it done either in the 1st round. Bob started looking great again when the team in front of him did.

I do think Helly would have looked great in the playoffs for us.

I'm starting to hear that Klingberg is the Oilers big addition this year, if so that is very disappointing.

In a Stanley Cup year all of us should want us to spend some of our tradable assets (especially with Kane out until playoffs)
What if he turns into the top 4 Dman we’ve needed beside Nurse for so long?

Where did you even hear this btw? I haven’t heard a single person say this

Kuemper also had a very weird eye injury and it pretty much derailed his next contract.

He came back and won a cup with that eye injury, so I look at that as a demonstration of resilience. I wouldn’t look too deeply into Jack Campbell’s resilience before signing a 25M contract…

Yeah, 10 million dollar goalies are a non-starter when you’re carrying 2 of the best and most expensive players in the league. You’re always going to be robbing peter to pay Paul as you’re filling out the roster. We don’t have the trade assets or the cap space, and Hellebuyck is on a winning team. There’s very few goalies with his level of consistency throughout the years, and most of them aren’t available. Skinner has been a solid fit for Edmonton given all the extenuating circumstances. I would definitely be interested in a veteran who has a solid track record to tandem up, assuming they come salary retained etc.

They really, really aren't. Why do you think the Oilers whip Ottawa so often and not the other two
That’s your argument? Why do the oilers get their asses kicked by Columbus but beat the kings?

Lucas Dostal, Logan Thompson, Mackenzie Blackwood, are not 10M goalies. It’s a matter of finding that goalie. Skinner has not been a solid fit at all. He ranks near the bottom for goals saved above expected. An average goalie- who sits about 15th-17th in the league would be a huge upgrade.

Nothing supports the argument that Skinner has been a good fit

Your argument is that the only reason Ottawa isn't higher in the standings is because of goaltending, right?

2/3 of their main goalies seem to have good stats to me.

Yeah this false dichotomy that it's $10M or Skinner is just that, false. The Avs just extended Blackwood for half that FFS.

We just need our pro scouts and management to do their jobs and identify undervalued/underutilized talent, and then pay the appropriate price for those players. However they have mightily struggled to do that outside of Podkolzin, plus don't seem to see a need (which is even more alarming). I have little to no faith in Bowman to do the right thing here, he hasn't earned it in the slightest.

Lol yeah not like Bobrovsky didn't play outcome of his minds. And you just proved every one point what a true #1 Goalie does. Keeps the puck out of the fking net
