I mean, Husso was the clearly choice over both, all 3 failed. Kuemper slightly less so.

I mean… Ville Husso pretty much has 1 good season in his career. Darcy Kuemper pretty much has 1 bad season in his career. Not sure how they are comparable… not to mention the cup win, being western Canadian and familiar with Edmonton, and I mean.. just look at his stats this year. If you look at his entire resume from rookie to today, it’s impressive.

Again, he did, but he was coming off it, stole Binnington's job, put up great numbers, was young, then failed.

Those 3 were the names out there, Detroit jumped the "cue" and traded for him, he failed. The Oilers made the mistake of Campbell and Washington signed Kuemper, who they dumped shortly after.

So all 3 failed.

I wonder how attached to Justus Annunen the Preds are.

Since being swapped for Wedgewood, he's been the second best 5v5 goalie in the league.

24 years old. Signed this year and next at $837k.

I've had my eye on him as well.

He finished well in Colorado last year and has an attractive skills package with upside. His only real blemish was the start to this year.

To be fair Washington didn’t “dump” Kuemper like the Oilers had to dump Campbell. They traded him for the 3rd overall pick in the 2016 draft who is currently their 3rd leading scorer. Even on a big contract coming off a bad season, Kuemper had value due to his resume. The other guys… not at all. Obviously PLD’s value was at an all-time low… but he is what he is.. a giant young center. He’s going to have 9 lives in the NHL.

Kuemper also had a very weird eye injury and it pretty much derailed his next contract.

They f***ing absolutely did. He didn't stay healthy (again), Lindgren took over his job, and they Dumped him for PLD who's over achieving this year by a mile. They didn't buy him out, they absolutely f***ing dumped him.

Holland should have dumped Campbell, but you know, he was leaning in on his bad decisions.

Again, you shifting reality doesn't make it a new reality, just means you've moved things.

All 3 players failed in the place that brought them in. Kuemper is just playing well in LA this year, but he'll hit IR at some point. PLD is basically fluking this year, I suspect he'll return the guy in LA in short order.

He won’t be playing in the playoffs here either

It's amazing to me that his wish to play in the playoffs still gets brought up by some as a reason why he absolutely won't waive. Short of there being a bunch of injuries, it's pretty clear at this point that he likely has in the range of about a 1% chance of being on the playoff roster. Especially post Kane return and post deadline.

Currently he's staring down the barrel of 2 options:

1 - Stay in Edmonton and watch the playoffs with the fans. Play for a PTO or on a $1x1 deal in October somewhere else, and probably not on a great team.

2 - Accept a trade to a team that will give him top 6 minutes, and power play minutes regardless of their playoff status. Have a good back half and try again next year with a different playoff team, or get an actual decent contract somewhere. His scoring stats here aren't even that bad considering the lack of opportunity he's had, he has the potential to go somewhere else and salvage a decent stat line.

If he's not playing in the playoffs regardless, then option #2 becomes a pretty easy choice.

Huge dip for Gibson starting in 19-20 but he seems to be improving year over year

This chart tells me Gibson may just be the best bet. You cannot discount the Dallas Eakins effect on defense and goaltending. Even after his first season which was a shock to Gibsons system. He has improved a little year over year. And now that Eakins is gone he is jumping back up to good numbers. He already said he would come here. Could be the best bet.

Skinner has proven he is too inconsistent to make a reliable run in the playoffs. Sure maybe he could be have a good stretch but it’s also just as likely he shits the bed in round 1 and we are out.

Unfortunately I don’t think management shares the opinion an upgrade in net is needed

There’s no “sure fire” goalie out there that guarantees success
Hellybuyck, the best goalie in the world at the moment..shat the bed against the Avs last year

Gosh I'm really glad the idiots that didn't think Dylan Holloway was worth $2.1 mil for 2 years are the same idiots in charge of recognizing and responding to the tire fire we have between the pipes. Much confidence in these dickbags.

It's better to have the best goalie in the world shitting the bed than the worst shitting the bed. Skinner shat the bed how many series? But McDrai willed us to a win

I'd be pretty pumped for Gibson. I also like him as a realistic option. The Ducks have Dostal as their goalie of the future. They like Gibson a lot, but part of that is doing what's right for the person. Does Gibson want to retire just as the Ducks get good? It seems the nicest thing they could do is to trade him, and even facilitate a trade with some retention.

And maybe a goalie coach that wasn't hired out of their backyard could actually improve Skinner. Hell, go look at his protege Jarry. Pittsburgh can't wait to get rid of him.

Schwartz has been here since 2014 and the goaltending has always been an issue. Meanwhile we hired Knoblauch and Coffey and other facets of the game improved dramatically.

And according to this chart, the Ottawa Senators are a better team than Winnipeg and Toronto.
They are. Winnipeg is getting saved by ridiculous goaltending

That's true for any player. Maybe they play great. Maybe they struggle. What matters is the odds. Skinner has been inconsistent in two playoff runs now, and his average stats over time are quite bad, culminating with right now where we might have the best defensive system we ever had and he still can't find consistency. It's a virtual guarantee that at some point in a playoff series he is going to gift the opposition a win or two, and it will require playoff heroics by the skaters to overcome it.

The Oilers are going to have over 5 million cap space at the deadline to pick up someone else... I doubt that Klingberg at 1 million or whatever is going to be our 'big add'.
I’m guessing they probably either send Philp back down (doubtful) or send Kapanen down so they can start accruing again

It sure doesn't help my image of management and their abilities. We're at the most important juncture in modern franchise history and the best Bowman has been able to do is 1) Give away Holloway/Broberg 2) Make some depth forward adds that largely haven't done much.

We need to make big, substantial moves to address the team's weaknesses now. Colorado can figure out how to do it, why can't we?

I don't think any sane person on the planet would take Ottawa over Winnipeg and Toronto. They're a team we beat for fun.
Winnipeg has the best goalie on the planet. Give them Ottawa’s goaltending and let’s see where they are. Toronto is also getting ridiculous goaltending. Ottawa is actually a better team than either
