I feel like the Kraken would be a good place to one stop shop.

If we got Oleksiak + Gourde in a deal this team would shoot to the moon. That package would cost a lot, but we would be as loaded up with depth in all skater positions as any team I can remember. Gourde and Kane on the same line would be awesome. I think we could use a "distraction" line and they would definitely be it.

I would absolutely love Oleksiak although idk much about his game. Can he move and transition the puck efficiently? That's the best partner Nurse needs for the pairing to be good.

Oh God, its Dustin Schwartz's golden child.

Tristan Jarry reported to be on Waivers today. I was gonna suggest we could look at him as a guy to play with Skinner/Pickard at 50% retention, until I saw he has 4 years left. I'M GOOD!

He works with Dustin Schwartz during the off season. If you check the pens twitter post regarding him being put on waivers, you should see what pen fans are saying. Keep Schwartz away from Bowman before he advocates for another shit goalie again.

I’m so annoyed we didn’t jump on Mackenzie Blackwood. He hasn’t given up more than 2 goals in the 12 games he’s played. We keep missing out on diamonds in the rough. Do we have a pro scouting department?

Blackwood is not a diamond in the rough. The Avalanche paid a pretty good price for him, and then signed him to a massively risky deal.

If we're only focusing on a prior 12 game sample, the Oilers don't actually have a goaltending need whatsoever on that basis.

We have three whole pro scouts: Chris Cichocki (15 year tenure and never worked for anyone in the NHL but the Oilers, making him somehow more secure in his job than Schwartz), the former commish of the NWHL (2 years of scouting experience), and Zack Kassian (first year of experience).

Meanwhile, the Avs have six... nearly all of whom not only played in the NHL but have many years of experience scouting in different orgs proving they can do the job. I suspect this is just Katz being cheap again.

Play in the top 4? What has he done in the recent past that suggests that?

Good. The cost will be MUCH less then. Even better for us. And I think we can get Ek65 for less than my offer. A 1st for sure needs to go and a prospect in Akey. Maybe take out a 2nd and a 3rd then.

My offer retains Savoie and Sam O Reilly who I will NOT part with. I think that's decent for our cupboards moving forward.

Keep in mind we are getting EK65 for 2 1/2 Years. And are asking Pitts to eat $5M for 2 years. That's a pretty sizeable retention too. And it's a premium position RHD that we haven't filled for a decade for a premium player with Norris's under his belt. Gotta pay to get.
Karlsson's final 2 salary years are $9 million and $7.5 million respectively. A 50% retention money involved is actually $7,177,500 over two years ($3,915,000 + $3,262,500). So the hard dollars involved are less.

Theoretically the Penguins could approach this as a cap dump that would free money used on a position redundancy with Letang and on a team heading to another missed playoffs. Reallocate the cap savings to retool around other roster positions.

Or a 3-way trade scenario as I've posited before with C-Bus having $19 million cap space with the Gaudreau exemption. They could absorb the 50% cap retention while applying the cap space difference between Karlsson's real dollars salary and $11.5 annual cap hit. In what is projected to be a big, high annual growth with the cap, a prospective budget team with C-Bus could apply the cap difference to their own need to keep within the league parameters.

There's a reasonable business case for all three teams involved. On the Oilers front, the Kings game reinforces a real valuable role Karlsson would play on this playoff team. He could be deployed as a second puck transportation option/decoy to give McDavid more room as the primary carrier moving into stacked neutral zone and offensive blue line aggressive PK deployment. I'd moved Karlsson into left flank PP1 replacing Nugent Hopkins to give a right-shot shooter option and elite game processor who would force PK deployment off their overload on Bouchard at top of umbrella.

Then there's the most important piece of an EV elite puck mover for quick, efficient and lethal zone exit work to Draisaitl's Line 2 and Oiler support scoring lines. His skill would help to blunt hard, aggressive forecheck strategies against the Oilers with threat of quick strike puck movement by Karlsson to start attacks the other way.

Karlsson would be a significant X-factor within these tight, hard ice playoff series hockey. And if they wanted to in critical situation play, still manage deployment with Nurse Kulak to offset any defensive concerns.

I don't think the cost would be as high as your proposal. But I would move aggressively to discuss a Karlsson move.

A laughable accusation.

Is there a single solitary example of him being "cheap?"

We've seen this story before. The reports have all the markings of Klingberg happening, including that there is already information about who he would be playing with. I'm not going to be surprised if the Oilers sign him.

If it's 1.15 or less there is zero risk, unless of course there is a no movement. Can still waive though if he is a disaster.

Prime Klingberg is exactly what this team needs with Nurse.

Iam sure Ekholm and Arvidsson have been on the phone.

As long as it’s under a mil and no NMC. Free trial of a puck mover to see if he can mesh with Nurse. If he does, you have more assets at the TDL for other additions. If not, back to what the status quo is right now of needing a top 4 guy at the deadline

No he's not. I'm not saying he is. However, I am saying that he has been in the past and if healthy, he could be.

You aren't using any money for Klingberg. We have freaking Josh Brown playing for us and probably making more than Klingberg does. If he doesn't work out, you bury him.

You’re right that Klingberg at league min isn’t a risk. So I don’t disagree with you there. But you’re underselling how bad defensively he’s been for a half dozen years. This wasn’t just a few bad games while injured in Toronto. Or a bad year in Anaheim. He was awful defensively in Dallas too.

This isn’t a potential top 4 D add. There isn’t that kind of upside to signing him imo.

I'm not surprised to see the panic at word of us signing him, but if his skating is anywhere close to what it used to be having a big rangy guy like that as a depth piece will be great to have.

Short of Kilngberg coming here and blowing the doors off the opportunity, I'd be stunned if it at all changed what they're planning on doing at the deadline.
