Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | Where's The Beef?

I have a hard time believing puckpedia, considering we didn’t start the season in LTIR, there would be zero reason for them to put Kane on LTIR then
Puckpedia still doesn't have Josh Brown on the roster right now, and he played (unfortunately) the last 2 games.

Feels like they're trolling Oilers fans for "reasons"

So not sure who it would be, but Oleksiak with another year at $4.6M might be that fit.

He's big and skates well.

We need a defender who can pass well too though

Correct me if I’m wrong,

But wasn’t whole Cap Accrual + Spend Kane’s LTIR plan originated from Puckpedia in the first place?

I mean, the Oilers would never explicitly say they are going to spend cap accrual on one transaction, then spend Kane’s LtIR releif on another transaction.

That idea came from Puckpedia in the first place, who are now backpedaling on that, and saying they were mistaken.

The eye he needs to keep on the future is the eye on Draisaitls $14M kicking in.

The time to go ALL IN, is NOW.

It’s only going to get harder to compete for Cups with extensions to Drai, McD, AND Bouch kicking in.

This year is our last year where all 3 of them will remain on cheap contracts.
The all-in you're speaking of is still measured though. Because the team still needs to compete once those extensions kick in.

The players that Bowman targets are more than likely players they have the ability to re-sign. This isn't a blind 'all-in' where the GM pursues the biggest fish UFA. It's why I don't see the Oilers targeting Marcus Pettersson.

Keep your eye on the future with draft picks used and pick ups like Podz and Regula. We can and should do a little bit of both.

Teams we are competing with will be adding significant finishing pieces. Vancouver with Lindholm and Zadorov last year. Vegas with Hertl and Hanafin.

We need to be in All In mode too.

Originated from capfriendly as we were navigating and ultimately not deciding to match offer sheets, then starting the year.

I trust them more than puckpedia.

I miss capfriendly. f*** the capitals.

Was it? That Hart Levine guy seems like a credible expert as well though…

Back to throw more twitter incendiaries and skedaddle.

To be fair, probably half of everyone else who has been in Rasmus' situation was a Canuck & a Flame at one point.

Yeh it’s a business. And the Little Bro Flames are in the business of wasting the Oilers time and doing everything they can whether directly or indirectly stopping us from a Cup.

I expect ZERO chance Rasmus gets traded to the Oilers. And I bet it’s likely he gets traded to a team in the Oilers path to get a Cup.

Rhymes with Begas Bolden Bights.

“It’s still status quo. Ever since summer we were planning to accrue cap space, and I think we did a good job of that this year. Fortunately we haven’t had much injuries and we’ve had a lean roster intentionally.”

By status quo, Bowman means he was assuming Kane would be back for the season.

So it very well could be, status quo = use accrued cap space.

Non-status quo, Kane goes on LTIR till playoffs which either means we use Accrued Cap space + Kane LTIR OR just use Kane LTIR.

Bowman’s words still don’t really clarify what the plan is or possibilities there are with Kane on LtIR till playoffs.

I wish puckpedia was right and Josh Brown wasnt on the roster.

with Kane there was a high probability that he would be back during the season, so I think they planned the cap around him being back.

It would be a nightmare if we were running into LTIR and then Kane is back and all of sudden we need to make moves.

Watch his special moves be Brandon Saad and Connor Murphy.

I'm not sure whats going on. Puckpedia and Bowman said contradictory info
Connor Murphy would be a solid move IMO.

I felt the same way before Drai signed the extension, when it seemed like they needed to win a cup ASAP to convince McDrai to stay, but now we all know McDavid is going to extend as well.
No we have an opportunity to potentially keep the cup window open for another 5+ seasons by keeping a strong pipeline of young players flowing into the system.

I believe this team is good enough to win the cup this year without making any big additions, but they could also lose in the 1st round in which case I'd rather they had kept their powder dry. I heard it mentioned on a recent oilersnation pod that only 2 of the last 10 cup winners traded their 1st at the deadline. I also just don't see any available dmen out there that would be worth trading a 1st for (except Ratmus but that isn't going to happen).

Good point. I think it’s likely and all but garanteed we keep McDrai for the long term too. But our roster will always be thinner in those future years. So we need to keep that in mind.

That said, panic moves are never great for decision making. And the market for options this year is sparse. So some eye on the future is still prudent.

Ideally, an option that makes sense from a short term and long term view emerges on the market THIS year with our team in its best Cup window year. I think we should still target this scenario if we can.

Connor Murphy as our big move on defence? No man we can do better.

Imagine that.

A GM not telling the world what his plans are and losing leverage by doing so.

One day HFOil will understand that.

The guy whos only a -5 on a tirefire of a team while having a hard deployment?

It's weird how you're in love with Matheson but against Murphy.

I’m sure NHL teams could figure out how much Cap space the Oilers are actually working with at the TDL. Not sure how much that matters when what we get at the TDL will be determined by our offer Vs. Competing teams offers, I don’t think other GMs in their league will be adjusting their asks for their assets based on the Oilers cap space.

Out of the race

Hey look the results of actual, real knee on knee incidents. Not all the fake ones we saw during the SCFs by the divers in Florida.

Yes I think Matheson is better than Murphy. Plus/minus doesn't say that much.
