Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | Where's The Beef?

Gazzola just said hockey ops told him last week that, if Kane is out until after the deadline, they are going to be a lot more aggressive and busy quickly.

Well it may be headed in that direction
Gazzola is as reliable as Eklund these days.

It's exhausting watching a team with the two best players in the world lose out on championships year after year because our idiot owner and his equally stupid management hires don't have two synapses to rub together. It's also exhausting watching the same fans support them in doing their best Three Stooges impersonation over and over.

You know what's not exhausting? Winning.
They were within a goal of winning the freaking Cup last season. They were 15-3 in their last 18 headed into last night yet it's a giant whinefest around here.

Oh FFS.

So Puckpedia previously and they confirmed this, said we could use accrued cap space FIRST, then use Kane’s LTIR. If we do two transactions.

Now he’s saying he mispoke and was wrong, and now we only have Kane’s LTIR to play with.

So cap accrual we won’t even be using. So why the f*** didn’t we match Holloway?

So wtf was the point of doing that??? We could’ve kept Holloway? Wow..

Who needs a 920% goaltender anyways? You know, one that is pretty consistent ALL year (coming from a SH*THOLE team) and doesn't SH*T the bed for over a month and then has to claw back to respectability lol.

We don't. Stu took us to game 7 of the finals remember. Stan must have read these boards when a bunch were arguing about how Blackwood wasn't worth acquiring lol
You do this all the time.

Go look up Blackwood's save pct. the 4 years prior to this one then look up Skinner's the 3 previous years to this one.
The Oilers also had the #1 save pct. in the league since November 23rd up until last night, ya know since you love using small sample sizes to make a point.

JSkinner, Akey, Lachance, first next year, StL second this year and what, conditional first in two years for Brad Marchand and Carlo? Don't think it's enough for Boston to divorce their captain but in terms of a one stop shop for us...

Marchand-Draisaitl-Arvidsson
Kane-McDavid-Hyman
Podz-RNH-Kapanen/Brown
Janmark-Henrique-Brown/Perry

Ek-Bouch
Nurse-Carlo
Kulak-Emby

Skin/Picks

Bob Stauffer a few games ago was saying now the Oilers are only looking for a bottom pairing dman and a bottom forward. So that is pretty much 5.1 million, the Oilers ****ed up.

This interview here sounds like it’s contradicting Puckpedia tweet.

Stan says they were and are still operating under the assumption Kane would be back for the year. And says they’ve been accruing Cap space. Running a lean roster (on purpose) to accrue said Cap space.

So WTF is going on exactly?

That’s an awful lot to give up.

I like Marchand (but he’ll be a UFA after this season) and Carlo but we’re stripping our already sparse cupboards bare.

In my opinion Stan B is going to want to do something special at the deadline. He knows he was a controversial hiring, the expectations are Cup or bust, and he's had very little to work with in terms of cap.

He won't be in on anything until the deadline.

Whatever he says ("nibbling around edges"/"small tweaks") I think this will be the most substantial trade deadline in Oiler's history. He knows what's at stake, he knows he has to be perfect due to reputation, and he knows he has one big shot at it.

That's why I wouldn't count out anything, from one or more big-name D-Men to another big C or another reliable 1B goalie.

Since he only has one chance, he's waiting till the Deadline when he has the most to work with.

Well that would be just a waste of assets like Carrick last year. These bottom end roster guys are usually hard pressed to beat out what we already have in those spots against players already familiar with the team, the coach, and the systems.

Listening to Bowman, it sounds like they are casting a wide net though.

That poster wants bowman to turnover the roster every 4 weeks to make it look like he’s doing something.

Also, f*** Brad “No One Wants To Play In Edmonton” Marchand.

I couldn’t give two shits about his fit on this team. Don’t reward the Rat with an oppurtunity at the Cup in a City he doesn’t even want to step foot in for an All Star game, let alone play for during the year.

Look I’m use to fans and haters putting down our City and location. It steps over a line when it’s coming from an actual NHL player perpetuating that narrative. f*** Marchand.

No he didn't lol. I listen to his broadcasts daily. He never said anything like that D related. He's still saying we are aiming high. Why else would we want this cap space? The forward part I agree with but this was before knowing the Kane situation

Maybe he's drunk. Or just plain gone.

Bowman doesn't need to go "all-in" at the TDL, and history shows that's not typically the way he operates. I think he traded a 1st close to the deadline only once during Chicago's cup contention years (Vermette).

He'll most likely add around the edges, a subtle trade or two with a moderate cost which he did quite effectively in Chicago adding guys like Oduya and Handzus.
We're 8th in the league after a rough start, there's no need to go trophy hunting. I personally hope he doesn't trade a 1st or Savoie/O'Rielly this year - they need to keep an eye on the future, they can't afford to throw away another Kesselring/Holloway/Broberg.

Watch his special moves be Brandon Saad and Connor Murphy.

We’re under the cap and accruing space, I don’t need some third party website to tell me that.
I'm not sure whats going on. Puckpedia and Bowman said contradictory info

Isn't Bowman supposed to be a cap genius? I'd think he would have thought of this if it were true

We still need a top 4 defender. If he wants to pull a Tambellini and make a Smithson like move, explain it to McDavid and Leon

The eye he needs to keep on the future is the eye on Draisaitls $14M kicking in.

The time to go ALL IN, is NOW.

It’s only going to get harder to compete for Cups with extensions to Drai, McD, AND Bouch kicking in.

This year is our last year where all 3 of them will remain on cheap contracts.

I've had sick kids for the last week and they complain less then this board lol. Hoping to see some rumors or ideas and I guess complaining it is!

Don’t really know what his reputation with the Cap is. But I guess we’ll find out soon.

Cause Bowman talking like he accrued that cap space, whereas Puckpedia is talking like his accrued cap space is irrelevant and won’t be used anyways once Kane’s on LTIR for good.
