Rumor: Rumors & Proposals Thread | Where's The Beef?

Probably 100% a pipe dream, but we could easily fit Marchand into our cap. His fancy stats are still pretty good even with his reduction in counting stats. He would be a very good fit in the middle 6 on this team. He would help defensively, and on the 2nd PK unit likely. Has a little pop left in his offence at 1.9 P60 at evens still as well. Again, I don't think it would happen, but would be a great pick up.

marchand was -4 the other day. Looked like it too. Lets be frank here. How many people wouldn't want anything to do with Marchand? My hands up. Can't stand him.

The Bruins roster plan this season is ridiculous and I called it out months ago. How do they keep losing players and expect to still be competitive. Their big signings offseason were Lindholm and Zadorov? Thats lol stuff. The kind of player additions you'd make if the plan was tanking.

Bruins have two legit production players. Thats it, thats all. You can't base any club solely around that. This was always going to be a popgun offense. Marchand folding on his team mate confirms what kind of clown he is.

He is a clown for certain, but a clown that can still play pretty decent hockey.

He's a good hockey player. The Bruins are pretty much him, Pasta, McAvoy, and Swayman.

Maybe not an ideal leader, but we don't need a leader.

He's a clown, but he's a clown I'd rather have in an oilers jersey than a Golden Knights jersey, that's for sure.

I think players establish a certain rep and people think they're still bringing it. I've watched several Bruins games this season where Marchand has been invisilble if not easily contained. Against the Oilers he played like 3 hard shifts where he tried to fight off the checking. they were all with the game done, late in the game. Trying to get a cheese goal in garbage time. He isn't the leader people seem to think he is.

Doesn't really matter. Can't see the Bruins moving him. Whatever Marchand is the fans eat it up in Boston.

I would seriously throw up watching Marchand as an Oiler. It won't happen, just saying.

You dealt with Ken Linseman just fine, no?

Hindsight, but further circumstance that there was no need to not match on Holloway.
The team demonstrated they had a clear path to match Holloway, both if they wanted to. And as far as Kane, the timing of this surgery just reaffirms their plan all along was to ltir him until playoffs. He’s been in recovery for 3+ months, if he needed a procedure on his knee they would have known about it months ago and could have schedule this surgery way earlier. 100% they’ve timed this to extend his recovery time right into the window they want which is near the end of the season.

Not matching the offer sheets wasn’t the result of not having the money, they had it and they knew they had it. They preferred the assets and cap space over players who didn’t want to play for the team.

Does Marchand have trade protection? He's taken shots at the city before in interviews, I highly doubt he wants to come here.

Marchand takes shots at everything, lol. He just likes to argue. He'd chirp his own mother just to hear his own voice.

He also mentioned unprompted after making the 4 nations roster that he was excited to potentially play with McDavid.

About as fine as Messier did. lol. Nah, I was OK with it. Its not really comparable though. We got Linseman in prime. This would be old chewed up Marchand.

Also the point that Marchand is on a whole other level of pond scum than Linseman was.

Maybe this Kane situation was the reason Oilers were not discussing any kind of trades with teams?

Kane said he should be ready to go at some point in the season

Idk, I would perceive Linsman as worse than Marchand, tbh. They're both in that sleazeball slimy region, but Marchand is just a lot more bark, whereas Linesman was more bite.

Marchand has never cut a guy open from kicking them with his skate, for example.

I also think Marchand is just a better player relatively than Linseman ever was. He also would be third on the team in scoring...

But if Bowman knew concretely he was getting $5M in LTIR relief sometime in the spring, why not be more aggressive in matching at least the Holloway OS? It doesn't make sense.

tbh in the decades of time I'd forgotten about the skate incident. Fair comment as that was alltime despicable.

I don't think Marchand would add much here without disruption. By that I mean we already have a lot of topsix in place, PP in place, not sure where he'd land and again its not gonna happen anyway. I made a mistake today of landing in the rumors thread. heh Normally I don't engage in these what abouts.

Not really and Marchand would be an upgrade on every forward we have not named McDrai.

Broberg didn't want to play for them. Holloway did but he was treated like shit in negotiations so he moved on.

Both wanted to leave and Holloway walked away from us for much less than what Broberg did. I dont see how one could say Holloway wanted to stay here more. Plus Broberg was clearly the one who was dinked around more, and he even approached the Oilers about the offer sheets before he signed them

I think I read that Holloway said he wanted to stay. But he was offered probably $2M more in total to leave Edmonton, plus a much better chance to play top line minutes. He would have been a fool to stay in Edmonton, even if he loved playing here.
