Lived 15 out of 16 wins last year. We’ll be more mature this year as a group. We should have more scoring ability. And Skinner will have another year under his belt. If we were 99.7% of the way to a Cup last year, I don’t see how we don’t have that chance or better this year.
Not really. Pickard had to bail him out. I would say the 2 of them lived 15 out of 16

The best move they could make at the goaltender position is to get rid of Schwartz. If they wanna make a trade try to trade for Clark from Vancouver and let him take over the goalie dept here.

If we were trading for a goalie, I’d check in to see if Nashville want to deal Saros before his new deal and nmc kicks in, other wise the only other one they should consider would be Vejmelka from Utah if they fall out and would trade him. Anything else that might be available is a sideways move or a downgrade.

Well yeh technically we lived the tandem of Skinner/Pickard. And Pickard did his job. Not the first time and won’t be the last that a team needs the backup for a few or more on way to a Cup Considering we won the series with that tandem, don’t know how you could call it a bad decision or even the wrong decision.

Ho hum Colorado is going to be rolling all year now

Blackwood with a 0.972.

Makes 34 saves

This dude has already had 5 games of 940+ with Colorado

Colorado went from the projects to a penthouse in the goalie department

931 his last two weeks and a 922 the past month

Extremely great pickup for Colorado

What a novel idea, Shocked we have not had that idea before

Everyone griping about Holloway and Broberg and here I am watching Kesselring look like the real deal. Holland

The Kess deal is the type of DEAL all win now teams make. It we have too many bad deal while we are in the win now mode.

He's playing teams that Pickard had an above .90%, should we sign Pickard to a 5 million aav?

Blackwood will be good until he stubs his toe and goes on IR. Who knows how he'll be when he gets back. The contract looks amazing today but will likely get bought out

Edit: also, I wish people that got banned would stop making new accounts and acting like they're new posters. Tired of ignoring the same people over and over

I’ve heard Woodley and some of the other goalie guys talk about how interesting it is that teams will basically run a 70/30 split between their starter and backup for the entire regular season, but then come playoff time they fully expect the #1 guy to play 25ish consecutive games come playoff time. Realistically we should be expecting to see the backup get a game or two here and there in the playoffs because that’s how they’ve operated all season, but the problem is it takes major stones by the coach to do it.

He had a great save % all year. He was on San Jose for quite A while. The tire fire team. Didn't screw his numbers up
That's the smart play. A player who looks decent on a bad team. It's the same for Dmen we might want. Of course Blackwood is a tier or two better than Pickard (that was always very obvious), and quite likely better than Skinner.

Our org just likes spending as little as possible in the goalie position. Maybe that is smart, but I don't like it. The thought of having Blackwood and Skinner sharing the net was exciting to me.

What a strange bunch of fans we have. That blackwood deal is horrible at 5.25M. It might even cost them Rantanen. Do you not remember when Georgiev went on a heater only to fall back to earth?

Why are we bitching about Skinner at 2.6M?
Lol it won’t cost them Rantanen… ridiculous.

Georgeiv was already almost costing 4 mill as is, if Blackwood is a large upgrade for only 1.25 mill-ish more that's not a bad move.

We shouldn't be spending bargain basement on goaltending to begin with. It's an important position.

It's not ridiculous at all. They have 80 mill committed to 16 players next season without Rantanen. He could get 13M alone which would be over the 92M cap.
Colorado is one of the better managed clubs in the league. They will find a way.

Plus I think Blackwood is way better then you guys give him credit for. Colorado is probably again the team to beat with him in net imo.

I think he's counting Landeskog's 7 million as part of the active player salary too, dude is done and will be on LTIR.

In case people forget, Mackenzie Blackwood is the reason a very good team in NJ traded for a carousel of goalies before finally going out and spending big to get Markstrom. The book on Blackwood has always been he’s athletically gifted but doesn’t have the mental for the goaltending position. The result has been him being the picture of inconsistency, which is why paying him that deal on a dozen good games on a non pressure bottom feeder and 5 good games in a new sweater is laughable.

At some point his confidence will get shook and he’ll fall apart back there like he consistently has throughout his career. It’s not the first time he’s had a great stretch only to see it unravel and end up being unplayable.

We will revisit this post come playoffs when they are getting good goaltending and we have to win 7-4.

It makes sense from a rest standpoint. It also makes sense from a Stu management standpoint. He seems to be able to string together 4 good games then stamina weigns in the 5th. Either have him prove he can do long stretches of starts in the regular season or be prepared to put Pickard in for a few no matter his performance

I remember when Colorado traded for Walker last season. He got off to a hot start (including scoring two goals against us which sent HFOil into full meltdown mode). By the time the playoffs rolled around his game had already fallen off a cliff and the Avs were happy to let him walk.

The playoffs are a loooong way away. People need to settle down.

Good goaltending like we got in the third and fourth rounds of the playoffs last year?

A guy like you though, I can’t tell you prefer your goalies to play better in the regular season rather then the conference and Stanley cup finals.
