How has Dermott looked so far?

Stechers legs look pretty decent to me. He seems to like to rush/carry the puck.
Not sure if thats a fit with Nurse though because he also likes to carry the puck.

Regarding Stechers scrappiness...I didnt realize that was part of his game.
Good to know.
I havent seen enough of this preseason to know how good he looks overall.
Imo a good skating puck handler is exactly what Nurse needs. Logic says he needs a stay at home D first type but for whatever reason experience says not. Imo Ceci was fine. He just didnt mesh.

Nurse looked best with Stecher or Broberg or Kulak imo, although Broberg and Kulak suffered too much on the right side and of course Stecher got injured.

Again, Boston is wrong. If you don't want to pay him, trade him, don't try to embarrass him like some kind of entitled dickhead.

Eh, idk, tbh I kind of think any goaltender in Boston will look good.

When is the last time their goaltender wasn't in the Vezina conversation? Do you think they just are that good at developing and scouting goaltenders? Or do you think they as a franchise maybe create great situations for their goaltenders?

Keeping in mind this is the team that almost had Raycroft win the Vezina as a rookie, who then proceeded to rival Dan Cloutier in Toronto the next year.

I'd feel a lot more comfortable heading into the season if we could flip Kulak + a pick for Will Borgen.

Ekholm - Bouchard
Nurse - Borgen
Gleason - Emberson

IMO Borgen gives us some of the edge we wanted with J. Brown, but he can actually play and I see him as a good compliment to Nurse's style. Gleason's isn't as capable a defender as Kulak nor as polished, but he seems to have that knack for getting the puck moving in the right direction quickly and with some polishing I think he can contribute to positive possession differentials from the 3rd pairing and I also put a premium on puck movement for our team given the make-up of our roster.

Not calling it the perfect D to win us a Cup, but I think a better template to work off of.
No to trading Kulak.

I'd rather wait to accrue cap space to bring in a guy like Borgen and trade picks/prospects for him rather than be forced to send salary out by trading a good player/playoff performer/guy who wants to be here for a modest upgrade and leave a hole on the other side.
Maybe you make that trade if Broberg was still here but, then again, if Broberg was still here the Oilers would be in cap hell.

This is actually a fundamental misunderstanding of the current Bruins, from all accounts they're middle of the road and benefit heavily from elite goaltending.

But, again, the Bruins are wrong.

Is it?

I'll reiterate - When is the last time you saw a Boston goaltender not be elite?

Now when is the last time you saw a Boston goaltender have success in the next market they play in that's not Boston?

Seattle isn't going to just roll over and trade their roster players before the season starts. The only way we get Borgen this year, is if Seattle falls out of the playoff race and they can't re-sign him.

Plus, we need Kulak in the playoffs.

I find Nashville is known for producing a lot of elite goalies. Boston doesn't get enough credit for this. As good as Boston is around their goalies, their goalies are always good and show up when it matters

If Emberson holds down a spot on the 2nd pairing, maybe we end up looking to move Kulak for a right defence upgrade and bring back Gleason on the third pairing.

Ekholm-Bouchard
Nurse-XXXXX
Gleason-Emberson

That could be decent if we can bring in a decent second pairing guy (and moving Kulak’s cap would help with that).

At this point, I would just leave Kulak as the LD3. I think hes very good in this role. He generally plays better when there is more on the line.

I think moving Kulak only made sense if Broberg was playing in his spot for a number that started with a 1.Xm.

Team just needs to figure out the RD2 at the deadline. I have no confidence it gets done because 1) There aren’t many RD2 available and 2) Nurse needs too much babysitting so the RD2 has to be closer to a top pairing guy than a bottom pairing guy.

There's no room for him, but it would be cool to claim Trey Fix-Wolansky and give him a shot here.

Thought that too when I saw his name... maybe the Lavoie injury opens up a spot for him, who knows? Obviously the org would know him well from his time here and if any team could turn his raw talent into something it's us.

Well the last 2 notable star goalies in Boston have been Rask and Thomas. Rask played his entire career there, and Thomas didn't leave until he was 40. So we really can't be sure.

Swayman looked like an elite goalie in the playoffs and covered up what was a porous Boston defence in last year's playoffs. But of course it is a gamble when he hasn't played a full 55-60 start season and shown it consistently, similar to Oettinger in Dallas. You know you're getting a good goalie, but you don't know if you're getting a top 5 goalie.

It's nit like the Bruins have been plugging and playing goalies on a year to year basis. Rask had played for them his entire career and wouldn't have been Finland's starter at the Sochi Olympics winning a bronze. I don't think anyone considers him a product of the Bruins system.

Since then they've really only had Ullmark and Swayman that's played significant games. Ullmark's SV% was literally identical his last season in Buffalo to the following season on Boston.

A bit of reality- Our biggest issue this year will be line 3, not defense. Janmark-Henrique - Brown were great in the finals but they had an unsustainable shooting percentage, and got outchanced as well. Brown and Janmark are comfortably 4th line players, they were just more defensively responsible in the finals vs Foegele/Mcleod and thus got elevated. At 34 years old, I’m not sure Henrique has the chops to carry a line. He too was heavily outchanced when asked to centre his own line post TDL. The loss of Mcleod, Foegele and Holloway, guys with speed who could chip in 12-15 goals, shouldn’t be underestimated. The Oilers will either elevate Philip at some point to 3C or look at a trade.
