Mike Hoffman. Odd add. Doesn’t fill the 4C role or one of the D positions
Doesnt sound like someone preparing for hockey.

Lavoie gets shafted again.Mike Hoffman. Odd add. Doesn’t fill the 4C role or one of the D positions
It’s a PTO… outplay him.Lavoie gets shafted again.
This org just loves its asshole pos players, ehJust need to add Erik Karlsson and it'll be complete
The Broberg and Holloway offer sheets were entirely different. It worked because there was a disgruntled player at the heart of the issue who had an in-season trade request. A second young RFA target with also some development hiccups and alleged uncertainty about his own opportunity. A team that was over the cap having chosen to go for it in signing players versus keeping cap space like all the other teams with RFA players and one with three cornerstone franchise players up for new contracts over the next couple years. The opportunity space became a double indemnity offer sheet at lowest tier that didn't involve first round compensation.I kind of disagree with this. The Harley situation in Dallas was completely different situation than Broberg in Edmonton.
IMO, It would have made more sense St.Louis to go after Harley in Dallas. Dallas is a division rival and stealing him after a 47 point season makes sense. Dallas didn't leave extra money open to match offer sheets, they had it open just to try and sign him. If the blues offered him a long term contract, Dallas wouldn't have been able to afford it without moving pieces similar to Edmonton.
Its hilarious that Broberg is making almost 600k more than Harley. Broberg had a few good games in the playoffs and wouldnt warrant a similar contract. The only leverage Broberg had from taking 1M was an offer sheet. It was obvious that him and his agent were the ones that really pushed for this.
Sure, Holland messed up the handling of this situation but his coaches also wouldn't play him. Instead of battling for a spot (which be essentially lost to Desharnais and Kulak), he demanded a trade and pursue offer sheets.
Good riddance Broberg. Hopefully the door hit him in the way out. He whined back in Sweden when he couldn't make the men's league either. This is a guy who despite being talented and showing flashes, failed to earn a spot the past 5 years.
Oilers felt they had enough cap space to get these players signed to fair contracts but you can’t always account for someone else’s stupidity. They even demonstrated the ability to have enough cap space but made the correct choice of not drastically overpaying unestablished players.Dallas had $6.2 million in cap space to protect themselves against any prospective offer sheet. It's a very different real difference in management choices and a defendable position from poachers. As stated before, Harley's development path was different than Broberg with the organization playing him and no reason to believe that commitment had changed or would. He played on a deep playoff team with progressive development into a regular NHL defenseman on a good team. That is entirely different than Broberg's situation which included an in-season trade request. Dallas has done a good job of draft development integrating many young players into their veteran team. Unfortunately Jackson identified this as a organizational priority on day 1 when he took over.
The two parties negotiated a deal that lands as a comparable to Bouchard and Dobson not impacted by the inflationary deal required by RFA signing process with Broberg. Good business by Dallas to mitigate the risk and get their guy signed.
All those repressed emotions need to come out i guess lolhaha the last guy I thought would be into that kind of stuff
When has NHL free agency been rational? A record billion dollars was spent this July 1. There's bad decisions every year. St. Louis exploited a vulnerability using an inflationary CBA vehicle to do it.Oilers felt they had enough cap space to get these players signed to fair contracts but you can’t always account for someone else’s stupidity. They even demonstrated the ability to have enough cap space but made the correct choice of not drastically overpaying unestablished players.
I mean what’s the play now? Overpay guys early and hope they grow into it? Trade them because your scared of an offer sheet, or just keep unused cap space tied up during critical junctures such as free agency because your fearful that a massive overpay of an offer sheet might come?
I don't ever remember there being so many PTO's across the league as there is this year. Maybe I just never noticed, but it seems like every team has tossed out a ton of them.Oil opted for maximum exhibition games so Hoffman will get tons of icetime to try to earn an NHL contract with someone. Would like to see more PTO's frankly.
Agreed. If Lavoie wants to make the team, beat competition and play hardIt’s a PTO… outplay him.
