Price tag on Jiricek means he’s your one big move bullet. Not sure a 21 year old with less then 50 games NHL games who’s non playoff team won’t even play him. Is that really the guy people want lining up next to Nurse for 20-22 minutes a night deep into the playoffs?

Same thing with people crying over a guy like Kesselring as if this kid would be a difference maker. The kid has never played a meaningful minute of NHL hockey, he’s played for a bottom feeder that teams don’t have to bring their best games to beat. Different story when you’re playing on a cup contender, getting the other teams best almost every night where the pressures on and every mistake you make gets scrutinized to death and you’ve got a really short rope.

Jiricek will cost you about as much as your big rental will cost you and he's an add to a D core that isn't really underperforming as it stands.

The fact of the matter is that Columbus would have to like the pieces we have to offer over what else is available on the market. And I don't think that's very likely.

This is why pissing away draft picks hurts. The Athanasiou trade could've left us with two extra bullets to deal for one of the rumoured guys on the market. Names like Kakko, Dach, Jiricek are starting to make their way into the rumor mill, but odds are that we don't have the ammo.

Based on the reported ask. It'd be Savoie and something small. IF Waddel likes Savoie. Jiricek won't have any Cap hit either. So it doesn't really stop us from using our 1st for more upgrades.

Of course there's risk with Jiricek. But man if he hits he's the perfect add. If he doesn't, he'll continue to develop in the AHL and maybe next year he can be that solution for us.

The rental market looks like crap. And you just keep churning assets yearly to plug holes. With Jiricek if he works out that hole is filled for good.

All said, probably too much risk to take in a Cup or Bust year. But I wouldn't mind it if the Oilers made that gamble. For a high reward RHD i can stomach the gamble.

Jiricek was the play 5 years ago. Maybe even 3 years ago. He's not the play in a year we are trying to win a cup. What happened with Broberg seems to have given this fanbase unrealistic expectations as to what we can expect Jiricek to accomplish right away. He's not the same player.

If we were playing Tippet or Woody dumbass hockey I wouldn't even consider it.

But with Knob's system and Coffey's mentorship, I would be more optimistic. Look at how solid Emberson got in such a quick time.

Emberson is 6 years older than Jiricek.
With much less ability. But yeh, can't argue your point. I know it's risky. Of course it's a gamble.

IF the trade was available for like Savoie + 2nd. You'd still have a 1st++ and cap space to spend on like Connor Murphy or whatever safe mediocre vet would make more sense for a playoff run.

Uh 21 and 24?

My bad, accidentally landed on his brother's hockeydb.

Still a big difference in developmental terms but my mistake

Yeah I'd be onboard for that price. I just don't know if Columbus would be.

Arvidsson already been ruled out for the next 3 games. Seems like he got a hurt on a nothing play. Dudes been day to day for weeks. I don’t think hes going to be helping us in the playoffs. Think @Drivesaitl was right on this one. Hes fragile at this point.

Fabbro was always a top 4 defenseman and that was clear to anyone who actually watched him play. Not going to name names about some confidently wrong takes on him.
Honestly we should consider trading for him from Columbus. He's impending UFA so maybe a sign and trade at decent cap hit

Fabbro will likely be sold off rather than just lose him for nothing. It probably will take some time though, to see if their season is truly lost and Fabbro won't re sign

But... they are red hot atm. Fabbro might be one that got away

Don’t look now but one of those Athanasiou picks was used to pick Brock Faber…

Yeh the reported ask is Like-Prospect. So Savoie falls in that category. Same draft year, only a couple spots difference. The mains and CBJ fans will say no, but every Oilers prospect is treated like a bust on the mains so who knows. No one really knows what Waddell's opinion on these prospects are except for the reported No to Rutger.

He's definitely fragile and plays a game that leads to injury. My impression from the LA series we had against him was that he was often getting physically beat by us.

That said, I liked the chemistry he was building with Drai. He was buzzing out there at times. Hopefully he can get healthy soon. If healthy, he can contribute.

Seeing contenders like Vegas and Tampa move on from vets who no longer move the needle or are worth their cost like Pacioretty, Marchessault and Stamkos makes me with the Oilers had the balls to do anything about RNH and some of the other passengers on this team.

RNH has been a good soldier. Hyman or Kane would be on top of my list to get moved. Partly because Nuge has the longer running contract.

But we need to look at the big issue going forward as well. Leon's new contract adds 5.5 to our cap hit next year and if Bouchard is looking for between 10 to 11mill a year? that is 6 or 7 more. That alone adds either 11.5 or 12.5 if the rumours are right.

This off season we need to figure a lot of shit out

Don't forget about Raty. He is a darkhorse that is starting to look good

Agreed, that’s why they’re going to have to try and uncover a player with decent experienced but who’s been miscast.

I really wanted them to target Fabbro. Nashville has a strong history of drafting defenders and his game checked a lot of boxes for what we need and he was right in that wheelhouse of 200-300 NHL games and falling out of favour with the team that drafted him. They could have got him cheap and likely had a chance to extend him at a decent cap hit.

I don’t think he can sustain being a 24 minutes a night .6 ppg defender like he has since getting to Columbus but I think he’s going to be a really solid top 4 guy for a lot of years.

Hyman and Nuge will be fine.
