Bedard finally gets off the schnide. And Taylor "It's All About Me" Hall goes and gets a Hat Trick. See, this is why we traded him in the first place, to give McDavid the spotlight. But now that McDavid is all grown up, it's time for the reunion.

Just noticed that Bako has the worst PP in the entire AHL... 8.3%.. so they are suffering from some offensive ineptness along with the big club this season.

As to whether Savoie should get a look on the Oilers... normally I might say "not yet"... but this is a 1st round pick who turns 21 in a little over a month. He wouldn't be ruined by getting some NHL games... especially on a team that's starving for some offense as the Oilers depth forwards rarely can supply that.

If Philp got a 3 game cup of coffee after not playing hockey for a year... Savioe can get a couple games at least as well.

Derek Ryan is basically a placeholder on the roster at this stage... honestly he's probably not a NHL player any longer... certainly not a 82 game NHL player... so sitting Ryan for a few games and subbing in players like Savoie/Philp/Caggiula makes a lot of sense.

I mean this is a team this year that's given looks to Janmark/Perry/Podz in the top 6 so they are definitely starving for some offensive help... even if it's only a few games. Sometimes that cup of coffee to a hungry young motivated player is a spark that helps both the team and the prospect as well.

I kinda hate the whole over ripening of prospects. This team falls way too much on extremes. Felt like we rushed players before. But now we are in the ELC is completely burned off and we don’t even know what we got mode.

You guys understand why they are playing Savoie at center and you understand his injury history right? You know what he has to absolutely learn in the A right?

I know people develop an emotional bond with players...I'm still whinning about Holloway(who got top line time with bob tom and neighbours tonight)...but holy Yusef.

I'm not an expert but am I wrong there, just in terms of style? From what I've seen, Mzarek's defining quality is that he is more unorthodox than anyone else, with lots of mobility and reflex saves
His well known reputation is the more the pressure mounts the more he craters. He starts off like gang busters ...top quality athletisism ....then his mind goes wonky as pressure increase until he cant stop a beachball.
Playing for Chicago there is no mounting pressure. However if you give him every third game behind a Skinner you have a big time winner. Just dont count on him to be your starter. If you look at his numbers they are excellent but they dont tell the story. There is a reason he is not playing for Carolina.

The league is weighted to left defensemen. Right shot d-men are a scarcity. Right shot skill defensemen have value both in acquisition costs and premium in salaries. There's a reason the Oilers are trialing Kulak and even Nurse at 2RD to have greater flexibility to upgrade their d-corp to compete for a deep playoff run. Left d are more plentiful. One quick article grab here:

As for Jiricek, he's an inperfect prospect at age 20, as we know from first hand experience the issue of extremely young defensemen and making snap judgements about them. This Board is littered with rush to judgement on young Oiler defensemen that have taken time in a very difficult position to establish NHL games.

Snap judgements about Jiricek's skating based on limited sample NHLEdge data of a big d-man playing limited ice time is premature. His four-way agility is solid, big wing span for area defending, and an immature processor against fast, apex level competition. A more fulsome player assessment from a guy who's run an NHL scouting department: Scout's Analysis: Looking at Blue Jackets trade candidate David Jiricek

Arguably the hardest player type to find is big, right handed skill defensemen.

He can also do that.

Really? That's what you got from that clip?

Bouchard looked like a clown.

For some of the people who talk about Edmonton here and how they are the best at giving up insane Grade AAA chances, go watch Vancouvers coverage on some of the PITT goals lol. Van is ranked #1 in HDCA because they play pu**Y hockey most games. Sit back and barely shoot. It is weird to say thee least. Every team makes bonehead decisions. The good teams make less of them.

Good because he started at center. They were trying to keep him off the boards. The reason Buffalo gave up on was his injuries bump off big guys and trying to play like he did in Junior. Hopefully his shoulder is well healed now and it wont become an issue.

I’m talking more in general sense. I don’t think the team really handled Broberg, Holloway, Lavoies etc development well. Even thegame where they call Kemp up, he gets like 3 minutes. Does any other NHL team do that? Oilers have done it with multiple guys.

Philp should of made the team this year. I get he was off a year but hes like 25 years old. If hes better than some veterans, why is he not playing.

Just feels like too often, players aren’t waiver exempt anymore and we barely know anything about them.

Rodrigue is another guy. Sure he didn’t look great in the preseason but neither did the other guys. Hes put up some decent numbers in the AHL. He’s not young anymore or waiver exempt. But hes never going to get a single game here.

In regards to injuries, not sure the AHL is any more safer than the NHL is. Tons of goons down there.

I think they think Philp is really close just cleaning some things up in the defensive zone and getting playing time. I suspect he gets a big cup after the New Year.
Rodrigue has been so slow to learn. He doesn't adapt quickly.
Right now Hofenmeyer is playing. Savoie got 1 shot on net last night to D'amato's 4.

Your Judging on the Holland era and the past. This is now Jackson/Bowman era. And it scares me a bit cause they might say like you ....lets see what we got in this guy or that guy.
Neither Jackson or Bowman ever played. They are executives first and it scares me.

Yep watching some of Blues/Devils game. So happy for Holloway getting his chance.
My guy Kovacevic though not so good on the first goal against by Bob Tom. He played too tight with no chance on the cross seam and too far away to close gap on the shooter. Oh well.

He's playing wing in Bako.

Mostly but not exclusively, I think they had him at centre when Philp was up or when they had injuries to deal with.

Watched this game. The more I think about Jiricek, the more I want to take a gamble on him.

I'm ambivalent. I would rather have him than say Savoie, but I don't think either are going to help win a cup this year so it doesn't matter. The only thing would be if assets would be better spent elsewhere.

I think the plan is to keep him at wing.

They just had a game where they played 11-7 with an ECHL call-up with 0 points at #3C and no #4C, but kept him on Philp's wing instead of splitting them up and pushing Grubbe down to #3C.

Likely not... but that Jiricek does have ability. He would only need to be slightly better than Ceci to give us an upgrade going into this years playoffs, with his NHL ready size and mobility (even if his acceleration is a bit slow), it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility behind Knob's system.

Going to interesting to see what Minnesota pays for him. And what they do with him. Can't just shove an agent out the helicopter door anymore.
