You guys are so out to lunch on Bouchard. Dude is an absolute killer every year in the playoffs. Who gives a shit if he makes a couple of poor reads in October and November. If he has another run like last season, he'll clear 10 million easy, and be worth every penny.
Totally agreed and it's not even just the playoffs. It's amazing how hard people can GIN themselves up about his warts, while ignoring the player that he is and how he just tilts the ice.

He's had struggles to start this year, but he's an elite player, so he's going to get paid like one.

Wanting him to be something else is a you problem, not a Bouchard problem.

Anyone serious about giving Bouchard 11M or anything close to that needs to give your head a shake

Would prefer not to but I don’t think the Oilers really have a choice.

It’s similar in some aspects to Nurse. The team probably felt like they couldn’t replace him at the time so the overpaid him. Unfortunately they didn’t really negotiate with him.

Similar to Bouchard, I don’t think this team has a choice. Hopefully some negotiations happen but Bouchard has a much stronger case to be paid because he has elite offense.

I said before in another post, at least with Bouchard his game gets better as the stakes get higher. Hes been lights over multiple playoffs. Nurse is kinda the opposite. His game gets worse as the stakes get higher.

Man it's amazing how many ppl need to be on either side of the Bouchard debate.

It's easy. He's a great player having a bad year thus far. He cost us atleast 4 wins this year.

Saying he is struggling so far this year doesn't mean you hate the player. Not sure why every take needs to be made so polarizing

I'm glad you aren't in charge
Why? Because I wouldn’t be running an elite D out of town?

It’s easy to think he’s bad when all you do is look and hope for mistakes.

Never seen an “oiler” fan dislike an actual star so much.

You got laughed out of here in the playoffs and consistently made main board threads about how bad Bouchard is.

I think I’ll trust my eye test and analytics over yours.

Ha. I love it. More proof ppl on here should stick to watching hockey vs spouting analytics they don't understand.

From Yakdavid is great duo, to JP is an elite player who makes EVERY line he's on better, to Marancin is elite at defense, to "we should get Hamonic cuz he's the best 5v5 dman in the NHL", to now saying Bouchard has been good all year.

Please, for the love of gawd, stop using analytics. It only loses you credibility
says the genius that would healthy scratch this team's best defenceman...

Absolute unequivocal horse shit.

At worst, he's cost us one point against Toronto.

And he's put up elite numbers in the playoffs, not just against Marcus Hogberg and the Canadian division.

"we made a mistake giving a mediocre defenceman way too much" is not an intelligent reason to not give Bouchard a contract that he's earned.

The fact that his game isn't where it was last year yet might save us a couple million bucks.

I'm guessing this is a reply to the poster that falsely declared they would leave at one point and keeps posting like an obsessed, scorned lover?

My last paragraph literally says he has been great in the playoffs and his game gets better as the stakes go up. Thats one reason why I think he deserves to be paid with the other being elite offense.

Sure analytics favour Bouchard. Lots of offensive zone starts, lots of ice time with McDrai and the top 6, a stud partner etc… However you don’t have one of the best playoff stretches in history if you aren’t really special. That’s just a fact. I’ll take the odd terrible give away if he puts up playoff points like Paul Coffey.

This is turning into a cartoon. That’s more than what they want for Provorov (which is just a first)

This isn't video game hockey. Donny Wad is a deeply experienced GM and not going to give away a top six pedigree age 20 unicorn player type who's caught in the vortex of a badly managed organization. Reduce your intake of garbage trade speculation hot takes.

Lol. I would've guessed your "analytics" would reminded you of Vegas, but I guess when you simply stat watch, it's easy to conveniently omit these things

No shit.

"He's been far too culpable on major mistakes so far this year and hasn't been good enough by his standards" does not = "HATE THE PLAYER!" Meanwhile the other side feels a need to pretend that his problems this year are a myth and/or we should just pretend they aren't there.

Like a lot of key players on this team it's a piss off that they collectively can't seem to find a way to possibly start well, but they always find a way back. Bouchard has started like this every year of his career so far, including last season. I have no doubt he'll find it at some point, but he can be incredibly frustrating to watch in the interim.

you mean when Bouchard led the entire team in expected goals for and they couldn't buy a save?

Easy to make up bullshit when you're uneducated and have an axe to grind

The term 'unicorn' has become such a meme on these boards.

He's a really good prospect that has the upside of a top-pairing dman and the downside of an NHL/AHL tweener.

Expected goals is such a bizarre stat to me. It has zero consistency. If we're going by expected goals, then the last game against the Rangers was a lot closer than what the score would indicate.

Lololol. Bouchard is my fave dman

But watching him let Eichel walk past him despite having a healthy gap.
Then he coasts down low and forgets to cover the netfront on Hanafins goal.

The only person here with an axe to grind is you.

You're incapable of breaking down a specific play, despite that game having TWO

Goal shares...oh brother

Note the use of my language 'unicorn player type'. Big, right handed skill defensemen is a scarcity player type in this league and with that this player type carries a salary premium as well. Comprehension...

He's an age 20 player who has excelled in AHL competition and hasn't established himself at the NHL level. Back to point GM's don't give away this player type on a whim.

Anything else?

If I'm following along, you're the guy running Paul Coffey out of town because strays into the offensive zone too much, seems like a bad idea overall.

Elite players make mistakes. There's video of baby Nuge deking Lidstrom into retirement. Things happen.

Hanafin's goal was a weak-ass goal against that the goalie should have stopped.

Eichel's goal was one of the fastest players in the NHL getting a step and just being *gone*. A guy that's watched McDavid do that for years should have a good idea what an elite player like Eichel can do.

Still waiting for the four wins Bouchard has cost us singlehandedly.

Nope. Not at all. I was his biggest supporter last year.

If you can't see his play this year has had too many holes, you should stop watching hockey.
When he gets back to that and stops leaking Grade As, you won't hear a peep

Just like you don't hear me blasting Nurse and actually praise him.

BTW, anybody got Nurse advanced stats? I'll bet 100% they show he's been mediocre or Bouchard is miles better this year

I won't bother. If you are defending those 2 goals debating anything else is just futile.

The gap he started with against Eichel...you clearly are on another planet here

Nurse stats with kulak match the eye test.
