I think McKenize Blackwood honestly would be the best add the Oilers can make in terms of actual impact on wins/losses.

He's been above water for GSAA despite playing on pretty bad rebuilding San Jose teams and his athleticism is off the charts.

Behind good team structure, he could be a goalie that gets hot and Blackwood-Skinner could be a good tandem.
The players in front of them may not think that. Skinner right now is more inconsistent than ever and Blackwood's fall from grace was major inconsistency. Look at Blackwood's last two games.
The players wont know which version they are getting??
It nice to know that your defense and goaltending got you when the opposing forwards beat you and so you support them by rushing back to help.

I just dont see it. Why would you pay Draisaitl a stupid amount of money to be a winger long term? You aren't going to get to the value playing him there. If you put him as the RW, Henrique or RNH would become your 2C. I think that's why the Oilers originally targeted Henrique to have that flexibility.

You could look to replace the 2C from outside the organization, but it would cost a fortune and I don't know how you make that cap work. You might as well continue to look and find wingers because centers cost a premium.
I know this isn't a popular take around here, but Pod Mcavid Drai IMO is the way to go. Splitting them up is resulting in 0 offence

At least this way it forces Nuge to be engaged in the freaking play.

Kane Nuge Hyman
xxxx Henrique Arvidsson
Janmark xxxx Brown

It's actually not that bad and It's more doable when you can move Hyman down.

10 years into the McDrai era and we are discussing the need for a 2C (again). What the hell is the point of Nuge if he can't be productive at 1LW or 2C? Overpaid 3C?
Right now yes. He can't even 2C lol.

Best course of action is to split mcdrai up. They played a crappy Ottawa team. Need balance. Don't need them to be minus players

Fix the pp they will get their production together there

Doesn’t really have enough offense for a top 6 player 5 on 5.

Hes more of a special teams player. But he hasn’t been good on the PP this year.

That would be my point. RNH is unless most of the time. Can't even say he's an option for the complimentary winger or PP specialist either. Gosh I wish we hadn't traded those 2015 picks. Could have been Barzal/Ekrisson Ek+Aho/Hintz

You can't let perfect be the enemy of good. I would like Shesterkin, obviously we can't afford that nor is someone like that available.

Blackwood is a large step forward up on the current goalies the Oilers have for GSAA playing on a worse team and he's also a far better athlete than Skinner which gives him a higher ceiling as a goalie.

Where is Brodie even coming from lol. He’s not top 4 and when did he play the right side?

He's a left shot D who plays the right side.

We don't need a "top 4D" per se anyway, Nurse and Kulak can occupy the no.3/4 D spots.

Grier would be an idiot to trade Blackwood at this point. Blackwood and Askarov would be a great 1A 1B in the near future. They have a lot of great prospects. Just need to add some veterans and they will be competing for the playoffs in 2 years

And why would Blackwood resign there? SJ sharks competing for a playoff spot in 2 years would take a miracle…

Blackwood could be the starting goalie for the next 3 or 4 years before Askarov might steal that job

Or he could I dunno ... just go to a team that was in a Cup Final a few months ago.

It's obvious Askarov is the chosen one there, why should stick around for someone else to be anointed with his job.

That team don't got money to extend him.

Chosen One don't get traded

I don't think that happens just because Askarov forced his way out of Nashville over wanting to be the starter. They'll re-sign Vanacek to be a 1B at absolute most, Blackwood's a goner I think.

Yep if Askarov was willing to wait 3-4 years to become a starter, he would've just been kept. He obviously is willing to play in the AHL maybe this season, but after that is likely going to demand NHL starts.

Depends on how he would perform here. We can make room if he is a difference maker. I'm not married to idea of keeping Skinner either.
I rather go for Blomqvist. Same upside. Cost less to acquire and he's cost control for more years.

Askarov asked for a trade cause he was the 3rd string on Nashville.

I don't think it's a given he would cost less. San Jose likely knows Blackwood is a goner and may take whatever they can get whereas Blomqvist is a young, cost controlled asset as you said. Dubas may want something back, at minimum a 2nd round pick, since he is himself a 2nd round pick.

I would consider it, but still I don't think that's a cut and dry scenario.

This is Askarov's 3rd season in the AHL, don't think he wants to be down there much longer and that there likely was a tacit understanding with the Sharks that he will get a chance to the starter as soon as next season.
