Min 300 MIN played

That god damn Bob. Had to be superman to start that series against us

Oh look where Blackwood is....

Bowman is a grade A dipsh** if he is not calling Grier

Both Pickard/Skinner are in the "Poor performance/Strong Team Defence" quadrant. Will ya look at that....

I didn't know Logan Thompson requested a trade. Washington with a great acquisition. 8-0-1 record

Explain how Blackwood is a career backup, when he's 27 years of Age when Skinner is 1 year younger than him? I read about how Blackwood actually is playing well against other teams competition, but the only issue is the team he plays for. Blackwood is 17th in the NHL out of all goaltenders in Goals Saved Above Expected while Skinner is at the bottom. He would be a better upgrade than what is out there, and I think San Jose would bite on that deal if it meant they can slowly bring up Askaraov.
I said I didn't want a backup for our plan b...the post I quoted said to play pickard if Blackwood doesn't work out

The rub is that even ignoring trades and waiver claims (which is a whole f***ing lot to ignore, mind you) there are clearly internal solutions/changes we could be trying- Philp instead of Ryan or Perry, Rodrigue up for a game or two to spell off Skinner, changing goalie coaches to name just three- that Bowman absolutely refuses to explore. Instead he's content to sit on his hands while the team gets subpar results from subpar players (and at least one coach) with subpar histories of performance.

I want to believe Stan Bowman isn't a stupid man, because that means the end of our Cup hopes until the 2030s at least. However, he's wasted 25% of the season watching the same rollercoaster we've all watched and doesn't see fit to find a way off of it. He completely deserves the criticism he's gotten and frankly more. Stan was hired to help the team complete the puzzle but he's allowed the vacuum cleaner to suck up several pieces while trying to fit a corner piece into the center over and over again. It's maddening.
Sure I agree with that Philp up for Ryan. 4th line things don’t turn around seasons though. Why do you want Perry out?

Calling up Rodrigue is an option. You cool exposing Pickard to waivers?

I hope bowman is working on something better than that.

Well "doesn't work out" entails we don't win the Stanley Cup this year. So you won't be with Pickard. And we all know he's a backup. But I'd take a flyer on Blackwood.
Plenty of good goalies don't win a cup, plenty of subpar goaltender manage to win cups...kinda an odd "doesn't work out" handling imo

Rarely does a new addition to the Oilers get off the ground and running right away. They usually need a little runway to get going. Something in the water maybe. It ain't time to panic trade everyone and everything yet, not even close.

First off, THEY SHOULD NOT AND WILL NOT DO THIS... If Stu Skinner got sent to the AHL, would he clear?

I'm not sure, he's been really bad to start the year, his deal is 2.75 for another year after this one, would someone take the gamble on his deal?

Pretty crazy how often the Caps buy low on talent. Looks like it’s clicking for them now.

What did they pay for Chychrun? Jensen and a 3rd, that’s not far off from what we spent for Emberson.

Paid nothing for Strome who the Hawks just threw away.

Signed Vrana for beans who was tossed aside from teams cause of substance abuse issues.

Maybe that lazy asshole PLD will work out for them too.

There has to be a lot of pressure in the room. Whether the new additions are in their own heads or they feel it from the leadership of the core, there is a reason why these new players start slow.

I’m not sure what it is, sometimes I wonder if McDrai do a good job on-boarding new talent though. But the slow starts happens all the time with this club. Plus in general it’s not easy going to a new team. I think Arvie looked like complete trash to start the year, then his game came around and he was buzzing. JSkinner looked good to start but his lack of speed is starting to show some warts now, keeping up with Knob hockey can’t be easy for his player type either. Henriques line just doesn’t seem to be clicking at all.

Really good post cup management by Washington. Pittsburgh decided to hang on with all their old guys after their cups to keep their magic (not Sid and Geno but guys like Rust, Carter, Rakell, etc) and they are just too old and slow. Washington lost Backstrom and Kuznetsov and realized they need to bet on talent again, so they retooled. Their young players who aren't top 10 picks are making a huge difference, Connor McMichael, Protas, Lappierre, etc. Combine that with a couple reclamation projects in Strome and PLD, and you have the makings of a real underrated, hungry roster. And they still have cup pedigree in Ovi and Carlson, so its not a complete "kids running the show" situation like in say, Buffalo or Anaheim.

Yeh their management seems to always be active and making smart gambles. New GM this year, but their old GM moved to POHO. So there's consistency there. I wish the Oil would make some buy lows on talent every now and then. Doesn't ever seem to be our strategy.

My personal opinion?

It's quite simple. Goaltending is simultaneously not valued and often blamed. Not by management and not by many fans. It's systemic and you can see it in this very thread.

Attitudes like "just shut up and stop the puck" as though the circumstances leading to the goal are irrelevant, and mistakes are tolerated all over the ice, except in the goal crease... where the goalie's only job is to avoid the embarrassment of (and ultimately accountability of) the higher priced talent.
Well put and I agree with you.
I try to look at the circumstances preceeding the goal because it absolutely matters.
Looking at goals in isolation rarely helps uncover much of anything.

Would you pay 4M for a pane of glass?
I'd pay 4M for what he showed in the playoffs. But your point stands, even in his Blues game this year, his complete lack of awareness still got him trucked or in situations where he could get hurt. I'm thinking as he gains thickness that won't be much of an issue though.

A bad plan A.
Not nearly enough due dilligence was done regarding Campbell.
Could smell the alcohol on his breath in some of his interviews I swear. I knew something was off about that cat when he profusely thanked Holland for the signing.
