Ummm...The puck went 5-hole and he played very poorly.
That wasn't Stamkos or Forsberg coming down, that was Cole Smith and he got in very tight, takeaway the bottom of the net and make a guy beat you, basic goaltending stuff, especially for a guy with some size (I am short and was always a short goalie)
To be frank, that looked like a goal let in by a mainly AHL goalie. It's like Nurse's goal that Wedgewood let in, Nurse made a good shot, but he has to have that covered at this level.
It's the same for Pickard here.
So you do understand the problem here.Ummm...
But he IS mainly an AHL goalie. That's part of my point. We aren't paying for consistent high-level goaltending, but fans are still bitching for it.
I agree with this which is why I am not part of the large contingent on here bashing the goalies every 2nd post.Ummm...

You cannot accept huge investments in offense, that has generally not been scoring and turn around and bitch about the bargain basement goalies.
The responsibility lies with the people we've invested the big money in. McD and Drai have started doing their thing (and thus we've started winning), but Nurse, Nuge, Hyman, J. Skinner, Arvidsson, Henrique, even Bouchard... those are the guys who are not performing up to expectations and up to their level of pay.
Pickard did exactly what we asked of him, which is arguably more than he's paid to do. He batted 0.900, he let in a breakaway and a deflection, and he won. And everyone is trying to scapegoat him for dampening the mood on Mc-1000 night.
It doesn't make any sense.
What are you talking about? What's Stan doing to correct the concerns of the team.
The problem with that is that he'd have to clear waivers again if you wanted to send him back down.I feel like the obvious thing to do is to give Rodrigue a game or two the next time they have an injury and have to dip into LTIR.
He's been really good in Bako. Maybe he gives them a spark. Maybe he at least looks decent enough to be an attractive piece in a trade for a goalie.
You'd get a 10 game/30 day test drive until he'd need to clear again. The problem with that is that he'd have to clear waivers again if you wanted to send him back down.
Damn I have not even paid attention to how well Nurse is playing. This continuing is like having a new and improved traded for dman lol.The Kulak-Nurse pairing has been really good, Nurse's numbers are outstanding the last 8 games,
2 goals, 5 assists, 7 points +7 in 8G, not much to complain about there.
There's no guarantee at all that any D acquired will be do any better.
Goaltending is the no.1 team need, with even average GSAA, the team would go to another level.
I HOPE that the guys up in management are talking the same way we are and seeing what we see. Playing good D, not getting enough goalie support. Make some calls. Probably still too early for guys to shake loose, but plant some seeds. THat's how we got EkholmWhat are you talking about? What's Stan doing to correct the concerns of the team.
The goaltending isn't providing enough, despite the team playing VERY good defense, there are goalies out there, what's Stan doing? Evaluating? Hoping for development?

Goalies are voodoo. I feel like it's always worth trying something because you never know.I'm not against this per say but also every point matters right now. If we had started like the Jets did then okay, you put Olivier in for one night whenever and just see what happens. But I didn't like the looks of him even in pre-season. He was really terrible against Calgary (xGA 3.6, 5 GA) and Seattle (xGA 2, 6 GA) in particular.
I understand he's been good in the A this season and has shown year over year progress which is what you want out of any player. But he also just may be one of those "AAAA" guys who never translates his game to the Show. The only way to know is to play him I guess, but I don't think I'd do it before we've banked some more points and we need a better option than Skinner like yesterday.
The league seems to be trending towards quicker goalies now. Rodrigue fits that mold but he needs a shot to prove it first.I feel like the obvious thing to do is to give Rodrigue a game or two the next time they have an injury and have to dip into LTIR.

Yeah. It feels like the Oilers give up few chances, but when they do it's on east-west passes and Skinner is statistically the worst goalie in the league on those. The league seems to be trending towards quicker goalies now. Rodrigue fits that mold but he needs a shot to prove it first.

Is this where I call you Mr Obvious?Newsflash: every team in the league gives up clear shooter on goalie opportunities. There's a reason why top 6 forwards in the NHL are as productive as they are. They know where to go to get open looks.
Well I stand corrected. I obviously read a shortened version of HDSC. Thanks for the info. That's actually just straight false.

Basically everything is assumed to be a wide open look unless it's contested and then points taken away, and then points added if it's tipped.
Some models also just go by the xGoals of the chance, but it ends up at around the same spot - a HDSC is approximately 0.15 goals on average.
Our D hasn’t been good. It’s better than we thought though…. So imagine how good it’ll be if we had actual top 4 Dman on the right side of NurseI know the D has been pretty good but can be alot better. That is one reason why we have 8 loses. Saying goaltending is the reason and ignoring the D lapses is blind thinking.
Savard has been horrendous playing top4 minutes. He's getting murdered by elite comp this year.On the Oil Stream today, Gazzola said David Pagnotta said last Saturday on Hello Hockey that Edmonton and David Savard may gain some traction.
I wouldn’t mind him if they retain a lot. I know a lot probably wouldn’t like that deal

Disagree. Skinner always starts this way. This D core is not a Cup contender. Kulak playing two pairs literally? Heck no man.The Kulak-Nurse pairing has been really good, Nurse's numbers are outstanding the last 8 games,
