Would people trade Savoie for Jirichek?

I’d have to think hard about it. But I’m personally not as high on Savoie as some but I think it would be foolish to assume Jirichek can fill RD2 anytime soon.
Savoie as a rookie has 10 in 15 games on a bad AHL team. I'd say let's hold of on Savoie. Rather they trade O'Reilly plus picks tbh. Guys like Jiricek don't just become available in the market everyday. You throw the book to get him

Like Reinhart??

Some people think that when a highly ranked prospect struggles in the NHL, it's a great buy low opportunity. Maybe they are just a bust and you are trading your valued asset on magic beans.
But a second round pick is unbustable? Lol like Benson lavoie? I forget how many 2nd round picks that the oilers have had turned into players in the last ten years? Mcleod and that's it. Columbus is doing to jiricek what the oilers did to broberg give him ten minutes of ice time and if he doesn't do something in limited minutes send him down.

Why is a freebie the only way to score? Why not a breakaway? We already scored that way once. A rebound, a tip (see Panthers goal #1), a passing play, a blast from the point, etc etc etc. You know, the ways we scored in games 4-6.

Okay, but when? That's the question. RNH looks like a dead man walking. Hyman looks nothing like the guy he was last year. Arvidsson and Skinner look like guys that their previous teams walked away from. Stuart Skinner struggled early last year before rounding into form. Was he perfect? Absolutely not, but he was just as much a part of the big winning streak as anyone else. You don't win 16 straight games with crap goaltending.

Part of the reason we lost the Cup last year was because the offense vanished at inopportune times. A combined 2 goals in games 1, 2, and 7 isn't going to cut it. Skinner is who he is. There's no Shesterkin or anyone like that on the way.

You're not getting anything cheap in a Cup Final game 7 with a goalie who can elevate their game like a Bobrovsky. Less so when you are down, you are toast.

The refs aren't going to call shit either because the refs don't want to look like they decided a game 7, so the Panthers in that situation have all the leeway in the world to grab/clutch/obstruct and not get called for it, which is great for them because they're just going to trap, trap, trap and focus 150% on not giving McDavid an inch of ice. All they need to do is do that for 35 minutes.

Game 7 of the Cup Final was June 24th, 2024, but the reality is we probably lost that Cup on July 13, 2022, the day Holland blew his goaltending wad on Campbell (resulting in Skinner in net).

Skinner is who he is that's true, he's a back up goalie/1B that can maybe fool some people into looking like a starter if the team in front of him is playing outstanding hockey, but you can say that for about 50 other guys in the league too.

NHL edge didn't exist last year, so you're looking at non existent stats.

Also, that shot wouldn't have been classified as a miss range shot as the angle is too extreme.

But regardless - even in the data from NHL edge this year - it literally shows his mid range shooting percentage as NHL average?

View attachment 935550

That's literally what I said - he's an average shooter with gets a lot of volume from high danger locations. Exactly what the chart I posted said - which again - would have raw data from the same source and NHL edge - the NHL API.
NHL Edge data goes back to 2021-22. It was released publicly last season. It's objective information tracked through their technology system. Drill down deeper and you'll see the shot and goal results tracked over high danger, mid-range and long. He is consistently among elite in shot volume and goals for mid-range shooting. Common sense reinforces that most goals are scored in high danger ice.

But regardless the criticism is with your mis-use of statistics to infer a similarity between the Fleury gaff and a contested game 7 Stanley Cup winning goal that has several contributory mistakes on the play. Add that the NHLEdge numbers reinforce the Florida player involved is consistently among NHL elite percentile in finishing on mid-range shooting. This is a false equivalency that reinforces poor conclusions can derive from users with an inherent bias. That's the point here.

Would max wanner and a late pick do it for jiricek. Similar spots in their development jiricek has a higher ceiling so the late pick makes up for it.

I'm not super high on Jiricek but I agree that we should have a competitive offer for him. To me, this move would remove the sting of those offer sheets in the summer.

He has high end talent and has a low cap hit. If the move is soon there is still a lot of time until the deadline to maybe get someone else

It’s expected he will be moved tonight or tomorrow morning

Right - the NHL API has been available since 2021 - meaning the fidelity of all advanced stats is from the NHL API and is the same.

I'm not really sure what your second point is - I already acknowledged the error due to rounding on that one graphic.

Aside from that, statistically from money pucks model - that shot from that location, with no change to the angle, with that level of defensive interference, with that speed of the play developing from the Florida own zone, with that amount of north south speed - goes in 1 time out of every 125 times. Natural Stat Tricks model puts the same shot at around 3/325, which is a slightly higher chance, but still only a goal approximately 1 out of every 108 times.

Again - Reinhart is statistically an average finisher who scores lots because he gets a large volume of chances - who has no history of scoring from that location - so this 1/125 to 3/325 chance of scoring is likely fairly accurate.

But I digress - clearly you disagree with that assessment, so let's agree to disagree.
