What are we thinking is the cost on Trent Frederic? I'm kinda leery on it because he's played his entire career in the US and is a US guy, might be difficult to resign so it would be a pure rental perhaps.

He'll probably cost a 2nd+ (not much + though)

The only hang up is he's out week to week at the moment.

I'd like him, but I feel like he's one of those deadline players that someone is going to massively overpay for because the value of his name probably exceeds his true value on the ice.

We could probably get a poor man's version of him for not even close to the cost.

So, we suddenly magically obtain another 5-7 million in cap room and the other GM's in the league are idiots. Piece of cake, got it.
Yes actually, good teams do it all the time. Just this year Trouba’s brutal contract was dumped for nothing. This summer, LA got out from the PLD contract. Heck, Carolina got Hall AND Chicago to retain on Rantanen for a 3rd round pick! I understand you have no faith in our management, I don’t either- but getting out from these contracts isn’t hard at all, it just takes assertiveness. You think if Henrique and Arvidsson were struggling on another team that the Oilers wouldn’t take them on as a reclamation project like they did with Brown and Klingberg?

Would recommend, nearly any one would do.

Skinner is currently 44th of 68th eligible goalies (min 10 GP) for goals saved above expected per 60 mins (moneypuck). If you move the GP marked to 30 GP, to account for goalies that would be considered their teams starter (playing more than half the games), then he is 27th of 31 eligible goalies.

Basically Skinner is the 5th worst starter in the league.

So yes, almost any other goalie would likely be an upgrade.

I don't think there's a team out there that takes Kane, especially knowing he might not play at all this season.

Him not playing would be good for some teams, just park him on LTIR, especially if the contract is insured.

Teams are going to have to take on some salary to make deals happen. With the cap rising massively it's less of an issue.

Yup it's why I said it like that. Because I could see a random deal dropping where the Oilers move Skinner for Vanecek and a 5th(which goes to 3rd party team to team to eat 50% on Vanecek).

If he doesn't play- insurance takes care of his salary, buy him out in the offseason. If he does play this season, that team pays very little actual dollars, buy him out in the off-season. Moving him shouldn't be hard

The last year on his deal is only 4 million also, so below his cap hit.

The difference between Brown and Klingberg vs Henrique and Arvidsson, is that the contracts of them. Klingberg cost nothing to add other than a basic salary. Brown was a UFA. Henrique and Li'l Arvy make 7 million between them and for another year after this. As for sweeteners, we don't have a first anymore this year, and our prospect/draft capital cupboard is pretty baron.

I am one of the few that would like the Oilers to add Kostin at the deadline. Get a broker to retain 50%.
There shouldn't be an issue getting brokers this year with the cap jumping next year (for retentions longer than a year). It helps teams get to the floor. Ek65 for example. A poster here, forgive me I can remember who, posted the idea of the Pens using Columbus as a broker to retain 50% of EK65 to move him to Edmonton. Actual dollars are 3.9, and 3.1. 5M added to their cap. Pens shed salary like they wanted to. Pens should get a shitty return since they are dumping salary- Columbus can get a 2nd from Edmonton for the asset and a 1st from Pittsburgh for taking on their cap dump.
