I'd be behind that trade but I'd wish we could make it so that they'd only get Akey if Gibson panned out, lol, or if we got to the conference final
He's not Stu, that's what this team needs now.

I actually kinda expect a deal like Stu for Vanecek and a 5th to a broker team to eat 50% on Vanecek.

That's a risk, but it's a change.

Jeff Skinner had a good game. That second line was the best line all night

Makes you wonder what Schwartz actually works on with his goalies
Uh Knobs called him out post game pretty hard. What the heck were you watching.

Henrique has been horrid this season. 35 yo. Looks nearly done. We lost Foegele, McLeod, Holloway and Broberg to keep/sign Henrique, Arvidsson and J. Skinner. Jeff Jackson sewered this season.
Yup

Is there any chance that JJ knows he royally screwed up the offseason so in turn we overspend assets to fix his mistakes?

No way we can go into playoffs without some serious upgrades. Doesn't his reputation depend on it? (not depth guys)

There wasn’t many people who disliked what was done on July 1st. People were singing JJ’s praises for it. I don’t think the moves were bad bets but unfortunately every player we have, decide this season was when they started to show there age.
Holloway however should still be here, we should have matched that one, especially after we traded Ceci for Emberson opening up cap.

The Oilers are very unlikely to win a Cup with Stuart Skinner as their starter. That becomes more and more obvious.

They can keep pretending they are the smartest person in the room or fix it, and if they want to cry now that the price might be high, that's their own making. Colorado moved on a goalie upgrade when it was available for a 2nd, we sat on our ass then.

They may also want to seriously look at shipping any and all of Arvidsson, Henrique, Kane, etc. out. These guys are way overpaid for what they bring and way too old. Get them out of here if you can now or you're going to be stuck doing it in the summer and that's not going to be much or any better.

They're not winning the Cup at all. The org has made it clear they're more interested in making friends than winning hockey games. BowJack was a shit hire and we're paying for it.

Since they pretty much have to get a goalie as there is no chance with the current tandem, options are gonna be limited at forward.

Again with limited assets I think Klim Kostin is a worthwhile gamble, he likes it here and likely will be energized to return, is young, physical, and can skate fast. Good shot release. A peanut prospect + a 4th or 5th to a 3rd team to retain a 1 million (only like 200k in actual cash) on him would be worthwhile. Could mesh with Podkolzin.

Then probably need one more move.

There is no question it will be much more expensive to fix this now than it was 2 months ago and far more expensive than 6-8 months ago.
It remains to be seen if Bowman can/will put his nuggies on the line to make the two or three large trades required to do this. Just a middling D and a replacement for Pickard is likely what he will do as its the safe play. Hope he finds more courage and taps into early Stan.

Guy has 14 goals this year and had a very good 4 Nations. You are seriously underrating him.

Bouchard was overlooked for a good reason.

I would take him on my team any day.
The bottom line is Parayko does not drive possession, he pretty much always has a weak corsi and relies on his partner to carry the play, nor does he suppress goals against anywhere near as well as high end defensive d-men like Chris Tanev, nor is he good on special teams he's a complimentary piece.

His current good season is largely reliant on a re-energized Fowler

5v5 2014/15:
Parayko /w Fowler 61.9 GF% (xGF%= 50.6 should ring some alarm bells about it being unsustainable)
Parayko w/o Fowler 47.6 GF%
Fowler w/o Parayko (only STL numbers) 60.0 GF%

The general assumption that Team Canada is competent and knows what they are doing I think is unfounded, they are roughly as competent as your average GM, with a little bit more behind the scenes politics and a preference towards players who've represented the country before. While I say in general using any short form tournament as a basis for player evaluation is stupid, the only team Canada D-man I'd say Parayko outperformed would be Sanheim, for the most part he was the d-man most frequently getting hemmed into own zone cause he wasn't breaking out the puck cleanly. Am I supposed to pretend like Brewer was some all world D-man cause he made the Olympic team?

I would take Parayko on my team as well, but he is not remotely close to being on Bouchard's level.

That was because we thought he had a plan for Holloway and Broberg in that context it seemed good. There turned out to be no plan and even when they traded Ceci they did not match one of the two. That was the cardinal mistake there. Screwing up and over spending is one thing but dropping less desirable salary to defend one or both those players when you had the room and not doing it is plain stupid. We will eat that mistake for 10 years.

We need a top 4 d-man and scoring forward with speed and size...... wonder what this will cost us, my bet is more than a 2nd and 3rd.

The bolded is something I still don't understand. If we matched Holloway's offer sheet after trading Ceci, it really isn't so bad. But they seem to be addicted to accumulating cap space that they might not even get to use.

We need a starting goalie before all of that.

The whole "Stuart Skinner can be a starter in the McDavid Cup window for a Cup" fantasy officially basically died tonight.

This was a game you know the ownership, front office, etc. etc. had marked on the calendar ... he shit the bed in a tie game again and another sub .900 game against a top team.

You have no window with this tandem, if you still believe that you do you're the type of person that gets taken in by cell phone scams that fool 85 year old grandmas. This experiment is over, it failed.

Feel the McLeod trade for Savoie isn't talked about enough.
His points pace is close to 50 this season, and he was a PKer for the Oilers. Savoie was likely not to be NHL ready and isn't exactly getting a fair chance anyway.

I'm ok with that move. Savoie has a lot of talent, you can already see it, his roof is way higher than McLeod's.
