Also if management are ruthless they absolutely should be trading RNH. Guy doesn’t do squat in the playoffs and he can never elevate his game.

In the past you could say his versatility and importance to the PP and PK were factors, but the PK sucks again and the PP is limp more often than not with him on it.
Yup, if the need is a #2c so we can load McDrai then it’s on Nuge. He was 1c and paid accordingly, with his new deal he can’t even produce as a 2c

Can someone explain how the Oilers went from potentially having $8 - $9 million in cap space at the deadline to now being a dollar-in-dollar-out team? What the f happened?
They have a 23 man roster right now with Kane on LTIR. Had they not signed Klingberg and brought up Savoie they would have had the space you are talking about with Kane on LTIR. But right now Kane on LTIR does not seem to be a sure thing.

I find this distressing. The Oilers made critical roster decisions based on their ultimate goal of accruing cap space for a deadline acquisition. Can it really be that they used that space on Klingberg and the Savoie call-up?

I wonder if Cozens could be the next Dylan Strome.
I wouldn't be surprised if whoever gets him looks like a genius in a year or so. Buffalo tends to give good players away, and you can run him all next year too, before his buyout cost goes up from a measly 1.18. So basically a season and a half test run of a big RHC that has scored 30 goals, with minimal downside if you can't turf him if he doesn't work out.

Unfortunately, I don't think we have the pieces to make it work. Buffalo probably doesn't want picks/Prospects at this point. Also I don't think this management group is keen on a reclamation project that would tie up that much cap space.

I would be a fan of the move, depending on cost.

This is more or less what they did, yeah.

Would be a(mostly) non-issue if Kane is LTIR for the season but if he's back early it would be a really tough look on management.

Yep the whole narrative around not matching was to acquire deadline cap space regardless of Kane's injury status.

This is shaping up to be a real mess.

No cap space, no assets to trade...

Having Holland sitting on his hands over the summer would have much preferable. I still don't believe Armstrong would have offerheeted those two with Holland in charge. And if he did l, Holland would have for sure at least matched in Holloway.

I do kinda wonder if the Oilers may trade both their 2026 1st and 2027 1st in one deadline.

Because really you're likely going to trade that later pick anyway, if you can get what you need now than there is some logic to say do it now and give yourself a better chance of winning a Cup this year and next, rather than sit on that pick as something to be traded next year.
I think about this a lot.. like we traded a 1st for Henrique last year. What if we traded two 1sts? Would we have got a real solution with term? Probably! And there’s a good chance that pick is just another Bourgault or Schaefer.

If they have term like Ekholm it is kind of a move for the future rather than just a short term rental.
